    Excellent explanation, super helpful.
    We rely heavily on the swell forecasts and for years took an over simplistic approach based almost purely on swell height. Then we started to factor in wind. Now we realise that swell period and other factors need to be considered.

    Moo thank you so much! This is a must watch, especially for beginners- which includes me. Kayak fishing can be fun and rewarding, but the ocean can humble even the most experienced fisherman.

    Thanks for simplifying it for newbies like myself. I started the sport almost two years ago. I have learned a lot about kayak fishing and safety on your channel! With your advice, I practiced self rescue (on a lake) and it came in handy last year when i flipped for the first time in halfmoon bay.

    To me I’d rather plan to go when the conditions are more ideal. If I’m going to be waking up in the wee hours of the morning, driving an hour or more, I want to make sure when I go out it will be at least enjoyable. My preference is swells 6ft and under at 10 seconds or longer, winds under 10 mph. Although now I feel more confident in rougher conditions with my outrigger 😃. I must admit I don’t really look at the secondary swells and swell direction. 🙃 Thanks for the tips!

    Don't forget if everything's coming from the same direction they stack up! 😬 Magicseaweed does have an Easy-to-Read layout but they only use 1 forecast model I love windy.com! They use at least 3 forecast models. And I found the app works better than the website for remembering places and settings... To show the little arrows you were looking for in your video you have to select "waves" from the bottom right corner of the screen under forecast model 🤓

    • @MooMooOutdoors
      @MooMooOutdoors  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah, I forgot to mention about stacking up. Okay, I need to select the "wave" not the swell. What a noob 😂🤣

    • @joeywatts7779
      @joeywatts7779 3 роки тому +1

      @@MooMooOutdoors 🤣 yeah if you have two swells coming from the same direction with even just a moderate wind you're going to have a bad day! 🤣 Windy has so many options and things in there it's overwhelming to figure out but the app is much easier. And if you select certain places or cities not all of them give you the waves option so to get the little arrows to pop up you have to find a location that has it... I always just click on Depoe Bay first because I know it gives me that option and then I can just touch anywhere I want to check out

    Thanks for your thoughts of safety. Up here in NorCal, just the combination of water temperature and fishing farther from shore makes kayak fishing an intermediate skill activity. The only way to get better is to push yourself. Sometimes when it is nasty we decide not to fish, but we still might go out and stay close to shore and practice rough water rescues, surfing, etc. Stay safe and have fun.
