Just did my mother-in-law's 2005 xB today. Replaced the two capacitors (a little challenging and I have a BSEE and soldered for years. Component mounting has changed since college), plugged it all in and all is good. Her battery was dying every 24 hours so we will let it sit for a few days and see what happens. Thanks for this Ron and especially the part numbers and source.

Hello Roger! Great to hear that it worked out for you. Yeah soldering these Caps was a bit tricky for sure. I had a crappy soldering iron so that also made it harder for me. However, my soldering is holding up great so far and all my lights are bright and the gauges are popping up like new. I was also experiencing battery drainage but since the repair it seems to be better. Fingers crossed this also fixes your Mum-in-law's battery too. Please let us know if the battery issue is fixed too. Take care!! ~Ron

Thank you very much. Replacing those two capacitors as worked and fixed my 2005 Scion xB ride. In the last two weeks the dash lights went out entirely. Now no more flickering 100% brightness and no more dead battery as it was creating a current draw. I will update down the road. Thank you again for this great video and information.

Thanks for the reply Ron, I did reach out to digikey and the nice lady on the phone said I needed to send an email to the engineering team with my request for the capacitors. Did that the day before yesterday and no reply as yet. May have to source the caps from another vendor, but will give them some time. As you mentioned, it will clear up as the car is driven. The best info I got from you and others is that the vehicle can still be driven safely... Best regards, will advise if I will have to source the caps from another vendor...Steve

Okay, had the EXACT same problem on the box car I recently got from a friend. Scoured the internet for answers, found your video.
Watched 10 other videos on how to solder, bought all the parts on Amazon and a cheap soldering iron (mistake). And after an hour or so of scratching my head I changed out the Capacitor you point at , @ 8:49.
Tested it and no flashing strong dinging sound.
We’ll see if I have to swap out the other but HOLY COW thank you

I owe you a coffee! This issue occurred briefly last year and when I researched it then, there weren't any "aha" moments. It started again a few months ago, and much more frequent... and that's when I ran across your video. I decided (apprehensively) to give it a shot. I ordered and replaced the two caps. All the gauges are now in perfect working order, no more flickering backlight, and the fuel gauge seems more accurate now than before the issue began. Thanks again!

Hey there MVoelker! Sorry I wish I did, but sadly I do not. It is tricky for sure and my soldering was not at all all anything to brag about but they are still holding up for me. I will say, if I have to mine over, I will invest in a nice soldering iron. The one I borrowed from a friend was not the best and I think this made the job harder to do for me.
