This is something I can pretty much guarantee you won't have seen before. ua-cam.com/video/bgN_tMcjW4o/v-deo.html A Shakespearean Sonnet: Watching The Damned in a Wine-bar in Hong Kong, 2012.
The tables, chairs were moved, they’d made a stage,
And shirt-free mosh-pit where we’d sent back whites
Too tart of taste, sufficiently well aged
But lacking theme. But those were other nights.
Past sixty years apiece, five men invoke
Glam rock, high punk, old new romantic, goth,
And everybody there ‘in’ on the joke
Is moving, having too much fun to laugh,
At seasoned, now, performers with a show;
Musicians, now, the boys are good, are tight.
(They never were before!) The boys have grown
To scream out loud against that dying light.
Still there! Still out performing as The Damned,
Not boasting how they once were in a band.
Andrew Barker
They honestly were really entertaining. I could imagine a lot of once famous rock stars being embarrassed by what the band had been 'reduced' to. I prefer to imagine that there is something both romantic and professional and flat-out inspirational at still being able at their age, to Do The Business that a lot of younger bands could only aspire to. It was great, man! Really! And I don’t even like The Damned.
And what's more they're STILL, STILL at it!
If you picked up on it, “To scream out loud against that dying light,” references Dylan Thomas. Of course you did! And if you know the place the wine bar in Hong Kong was Grappas.
Holy crap...that was AWESOME!
Fucking awesome!!!
I can't believe I missed this. I didn't hear they were coming. Damn it, no pun intended.
don't miss them in 2017 - show next week - 28 Feb 2017 - thepointofsale.com/tickets/damnedinhongkong
Fantastic!!!
Cool video
A mon goût, le plus grand groupe punk existant encore depuis leur création en 1976. Là, dans cette vidéo, ils montrent qu'il n'y pas besoin de tout un fatras d'effets spéciaux en tout genre pour faire entrer une foule en trance.
