I got one I have had for two years. When I got it I heard it fire but didn't see it run. It's been sitting in garage while other things where more important. Today I fixed the recoil(what a pain), sharpened the chain, cleaned her up, put fresh gas in it, and she fired in 3 pulls. Fully started in 6!!!! What a little screamer. She is loud for a little saw. Mine has the chain brake on it. Love it so far. Cut some 12" and under with it tonight and seemed strong. Looking forward to doing some cutting this weekend with the old mac's and my stihls and the old allis wd45 and dad's Massey 50. Thanks for sharing
I used these back in the mid-70s working on trail crews in the White Mountains. They ran ok but the big thing was being able to pack one of these things into the mountains. What I really remember is packing the gasoline (we pre-mixed). It would slosh in the cans while you were carrying it. That and trying to keep the air filter clean, which was futile...the turbo chip blower idea was 20 years in the future. Looking back, I am astonished at the whole thing. Never personally saw an injury, but today I think *what the f*ck would you do if someone sliced open their calf or thigh, especially if they hit an artery?* The answers are pretty obvious...there were no clotting sponges or quick-deploy windlass torniquets, you couldn't call in a NG helo (a radio with decent range would have weighed more than the saw and cell phones weren't even a dream). The nearest road was probably an hour or more away for someone doing their best to more or less run on two good feet, forget trying to evac someone in a hurry because even today a foot evac takes forever and needs a whole squad of fit adults. I have that all filed under Stupid Sh!t We Did and Miraculously Survived. No organization would let that sort of thing go on these days, but if OSHA even existed back then they hadn't worked their way through all the stupid stuff (at least that's how it looks today) everyone did.
