I'm currently going through the hiring process. I find it satisfying. Hope I get the job thank you.
As someone who has gone through the hiring process at Canonical, the cognitive testing portion is a terrible measurement for neurodiverse people. That said, that appeared to be known and taken into account by the people involved throughout the process.
+1. Now im worried
What sort of tests do they use? What's it like?
As a passionate Ubuntu user since 2008, I'm particularly inspired by the video's focus on open source accessibility. My expertise in Linux commands and bash scripting, combined with my deep understanding of Amharic language and culture, makes me eager to contribute to bringing Ubuntu closer to my people. I'm actively seeking remote opportunities at Canonical where I can leverage my skills to localize the OS and create resources in Amharic, making technology more inclusive and accessible for Ethiopians like myself.
The Reddit is full with detailed fail stories from people complaining about their time wasted on the quite ridiculous number of complicated interviews. Another compare to RH hiring process and saying that it was way easier with higher chances to get the job.
seems like they screen for extreme obedience based on their interview process (i.e. those who will do anything to get a job will persist through the pointless rounds)
Oh, so nice to hear about how important it is that the person hired will be a good fit for the rest of the team. It is not something small how a new person can affect the general dynamic of a group for good or for worse.
Exciting to know people are working remotely from 18 years :p
Went through the interview and absolutely horrific experience, they look for obedient engineers
What do you mean by obedient engineer?
Absolutely love this approach!
why do Canonical have 27 000 job vacancies on LinkedIn? During 4 month there were 16000 of applies on a Social Media Manager position and still there are announcement all over the EMEA region. Someone even look through all those CVs??
They are constantly seeking out new talent, without necessarily needing people to fill roles. The application process is quite general, and the company reserves the right to suggest alternative roles to applicants during the process. The listings are there to get people's attention.
I believe that every person will have a different individual experience. So, it's better to apply and see how it goes. If you think the company is not a good fit for you after getting interviewed or working there for some time if you don't like it you can always walk away. No one has some right over you and your life. There are plenty of people who want atleast interview experience to know what's actually asked in tech interviews. So don't discourage them through all these comments
Marking Canonical as my dream company wasn't the wrong choice then. I'm looking forward to work there someday.
Its ironic, i have talked to people at canonical and ones that went through the (extremely long and seemingly frustrating) application process. Not only is the work environment often described as toxic, especially the application process seems to be quite disrespectful to the applicants. Really a shame, i saw an open position that would really be a great fit, but hearing all these negative things really put me off. This video seems like satire with the background information i described in mind.
I looked them up after coming from Reddit. I’d avoid this company completely.
I think something went a little off on the audio. If you listen to this on headphones, there's Hanna on the right ear and Mark on the left, which makes a little bit of a confusing hearing experience. Probably want to go for mono over stereo for this kind of reocrding.
I felt like playing Counter Strike. I started checking if my headphone is not working anymore
Wow! It's almost like this is too good to be true! Exactly what I have been looking for.
"We are trying to hire exceptional colleagues for all people" ❤
Their interview process is Marathon. You really need patience for this one

The consensus on Reddit is that this is a super crappy company to work for. Avoid it or look up reviews first.
the worst hiring system ever, these guys are straight from mars. People are making videos mocking canonical for its absurd "write me an essay about your school" ways. Will never apply for this company, screw them.
