    Thank you for this video! You saved my ass! I got bad info from UA that I could use my 1st Generation Apollo 16 firewire with Thunderbolt card, and switch back and forth, but they never told me I needed to be in the TB card and do the firmware downgrade..... I've been beating my head because in Firewire mode my Quad Core would't recognize the Apollo.... Thanks for your video!

I would like to know if you still using the apollo silver and if you know what about using the thunderbolt 3 card and if it is posible to connect a FireWire Satellite in the chain and how! Yes, the TB3 card works great. Unfortunately, the TB firmware disables the Firewire ports, so you'll need to use adapters --> TB3 to TB2 --> TB2 to Firewire.

    • @MattHepworth
      @MattHepworth  Рік тому

      Sort of. You can use a TB to Firewire adapter to run in Firewire mode on macOS 10.15 and earlier. All firewire restrictions apply and you can't mix and match units or use Big Sur or later.

      Should be two. It's the original Thunderbolt card in this one, but still has two ports. Both can be connected if you're on the Thunderbolt firmware because Firewire ports are disabled on the unit while on TB firmware.

    • @MattHepworth

      It depends on what OS you're using. Starting with Big Sur firewire is effectively killed, so Thunderbolt only there. If you want to switch to an older OS you can use either.

      @MattHepworth That's the whole issue, UAD is not known for their help unless you're buying something new, one would assume they could easily re-flash the chip that holds the Firmware and I'm back in business but it appears that I am the only person in the history of ever that this has happened to so I know they are going to rip me a new on, I took out the TB card, did a reset and still bricked.

    I was attempting to switch from FW to TB and during the update I accidentally unplugged the TB cable and now I have a useless device, I'm pretty sure UA is gonna $ma$h me with taking 15 seconds to fix it. It's Saturday night I can't do my podcast and UA takes forever to answer the phone so no help tonight no help tomorrow and Monday I'll be spending over $150 to ship this thing to and from.....this absolutely sucks, I wanna throw this thing in the lake, drag it out and throw it back in. Why can't they just make it simple like if you plug up a FW the device says OK and if you decided to go TB he device says OK. All of this reversing out the firmware in 2020 is ridiculous for something that cost so much. I spent $499 on the TB card and now the whole unit is a BRICK

      It's not. One one can be active at all. In fact, the Thunderbolt firmware disables the Firewire connection entirely.
