Barrichello made a quick start and held the lead until the first corner. Behind Barrichello, his team-mate Michael Schumacher also made a fast start to move up to second place, while Heidfeld moved up from fifth to third after overtaking Ralf Schumacher on the outside. Kimi Räikkönen and Massa, meanwhile, went side by side into the first corner, forcing Massa to swerve onto the grass and drop to tenth place. Further back, Enrique Bernoldi made contact with the rear of his team-mate Heinz-Harald Frentzen; both cars continued, but Bernoldi had to pit for repairs after the first lap. Pedro de la Rosa's accelerator failed at the second corner and he was forced to retire. Meanwhile, Jacques Villeneuve suffered a slight loss of control of the car and hit the inside of Frentzen's car. The collision sent Frentzen into a gravel trap, from which he slowly extricated himself.
At the end of the first lap, Barrichello led his teammate Michael Schumacher, Nick Heidfeld, Ralf Schumacher, Montoya and Coulthard. Then at the start of the second lap, Heidfeld braked too late and had to let the two Williams-BMWs pass. At the front, Barrichello and Michael Schumacher began to pull away from the rest of the field. Further back in the field, overtaking manoeuvres took place. On lap two, Mika Salo overtook Jenson Button for eighth place. Villeneuve overtook his teammate Olivier Panis to take 14th place, and Frentzen overtook Mark Webber on lap three. On the next lap, Alex Yoong lost two places to his teammate Webber and Frentzen. Bernoldi retired from the race with a broken front wing and front brake line. Räikkönen retired in seventh place on the side of the road with engine failure on lap six. On lap seven, Villeneuve overtook Allan McNish to take tenth place, but then braked too late and had to let the Scotsman pass again. On lap eight, he made a second, successful attempt and overtook McNish, who decided not to counterattack.
On the same lap, Massa entered the pit lane to join the list of retirees who had retired due to a defective left rear suspension. Villeneuve overtook Fisichella on lap ten to take ninth place. Shortly after, Villeneuve overtook Button to take eighth place. On the same lap, Barrichello led by one second over teammate Michael Schumacher, who in turn was 17 seconds ahead of Ralf Schumacher. Further down the order, on lap 16, Frentzen ended up with a rear wheel in the grass at the final corner. He lost control of his car, spun 180 degrees and rolled backwards in front of the leaders. Frentzen dropped to 18th place, behind Webber and Yoong. He overtook Yoong and returned to 17th place on lap 18. One lap later, Villeneuve overtook Salo on the inside for seventh place, blocking Salo's counter attempt.

Eigentlich nicht. Die haben gemacht wofür sie da sind, Titel gewinnen. Rubens hatte keinen Nummer 1 Status, also war es vorprogrammiert das er Michael durch lässt, so lange dieser im Rennen um die WM ist. Auch bei McLaren gab es eine solche Stallorder, die haben es nur weniger offensichtlich gemacht. Heute wird es gar nicht mehr versteckt, in jedem Rennen ist zu hören wer wen durchlassen soll. So ist das eben.

Dankeschön. Was Ferrari da gemacht hat war für mich Blödsinnig. Die hatten so viele Punkte Vorsprung und trotzdem machen die das, unglaublich.
Aber eins muss man sagen wann Michael den WM hatte hat er robens auch geholfen

Warum unglaublich? Die wollten sicherstellen das es klappt mit dem WM Titel. So lange der noch nicht sicher ist, wird mitgenommen was geht. Die Geschichte zeigt doch, dass jeder, teils halbe, Punkt wichtig ist und die WM entscheiden kann. Wenn man es nicht macht, sieht man ja an McLaren und Norris, was passiert.

Definitiv. Er selber war gegen die Entscheidung: Hat er im Jahr davor auch schon gesagt (da war es aber Platz 2 & 3 und ging medial unter).
Wenigstens in Indianapolis paar Rennen später war der versehentliche Ausgleich.
