The late 90s and early 2000s was a nostalgic and interesting time at theme parks and this video represents that. I do miss when Universal was like this. It made you love the movies. It gets me teary eyed because movies have experienced a decline in recent years and going to Universal made me the movie buff I am today.
Bro, you took the words directly out of my mind. I get the same thing. Idk if it’s being 40 something and just wistfully looking back on the past with rose colored glasses, or if it was truly a simpler, safer, happier time. …yeah…the second one sounds right to me… Talk about getting teary-eyed…
I plan on going to Universal Islands of Adventure someday to check out Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, and Marvel Superhero Island. Heard they got a comic book store there in Marvel Superhero Island, wish Six Flags adds a comic book store selling DC comics.
Dude, I remember going to the park the month it opened. There were no lines for anything. The Hulk was utterly insane. I remember getting off the ride with my brother, and running our asses off to get back to the entrance of the ride so we could get on again. It took several minutes simply because of how much ground we had to cover. Later on we learned the lines for the Hulk easily reached 2 hr wait times, so we knew how lucky we were. The dr Seuss ride was cool too, super trippy. Certain parts of the park had a trippy acid feel. I remember us eating at that Jimmy Buffet Margaritaville restaurant, but I later heard they got rid of it. Man, so many memories. And hey, thanks for putting this up and helping jog some beautiful memories!
What a bygone era. Dueling dragons was SO cool when they ran both the red and the blue coaster in sync with one another. Spiderman was way better with the old music before they redid it. Harry Potter is fine but it's sad to see so much of lost continent gone. Unfortunately the Harry Potter ride at hogwarts is the only ride I've ever been on that leaves me feeling dizzy and motion sick. Still the best theme park anywhere for sure. Velocicoaster is phenomonal and has replaced the incredible hulk as my favorite roller coaster anywhere.
I was there just a week or so ago and it's funny how almost nothing has changed in a large section of the park. Marvel, Toon Lagoon, and Suess Landing has remained almost entirely unchanged from the park's opening in 1999.
The Lost Continent reminds me of the setting of Disney movies 1. Mythical Greece (Hercules) 2. Ancient Arabia (Aladdin) 3. Medieval Europe (Sleeping Beauty)
And ironically, the park it's in also has a section based on Disney owned properties! Two when you consider the resort as a whole has Springfield, and 3 if you count Mel's Drive In.

@@greatone33jThe studios have really gone downhill. Whole entrance is just minions now. Miss Jaws, Back to the Future, Earthquake and Twister so bad. Simpsons land is cool but the ride is meh compared to Back to the Future. All other replacements are complete garbage.

They shouldn’t just be glossed over by the company.
I always thought that Lost Continent was a very well themed part of the park with lots of background but the actual attractions and show did not have the staying power like some of the other areas in the park. It’s sad to see it now in 2024 as nothing more than walking space and a few food stands and shops with both “attractions” permanently closed. The only part of Lost Continent that seemed interesting was Merlin Wood but that got replaced by Wizarding World. For an original IP it was really well done overall but could’ve been executed even better in order to make it stand the test of time. I think Zelda will be a good replacement for that area and will bleed into harry potter better as Hyrule and the UK are more similar terrain wise and climate canonically.
