Tony has changed his technique a lot but definitely hasn't lost his voice. He's actually one of the few metal vocalists I've never heard strain much at all (he had more strain during the early years, actually).
Kimi Jokinen The change of singing style and was a forced choice. I got to see here on Yuotube many of them live and it is obvious that Tony has lost the naturalness of the virtuosity of the early years of his career with the Sonata. You can not lower the tone of the songs of the tip of the first two albums, because those songs are designed to be aggressive and enter by force in the soul !! To decrease the tones then equals distorting them. Then, in short, that Tony does not reach more notes of a time is not a drama, you acknowledge and just and will continue (at least I) to listen "Ecliptica" and "Silence" their best studio album.
Yes maybe he lost some of his power...but you can clearly see he is not trying to force and throat as much as he did in the past just because he was young and so was his voice....I bet he can still kick ass like in the younger days but not for a setlist of 10+ songs.... he probably doesn't want to force his voice too much because he already feels it's gonna damage further.... Honestly he is smarter than Kotipelto was, Kotipelto started to fuck up his voice in like 2003 since that elements tour, and the the worst thing came, he had a disease at the level of his vocal chords, but for the sake of metal (and money aswell - I don't blame) he kept singing while not being 100% recovered...and even now after many years in which he said his voice has recovered 100% you can hear it's still sry and not so resonant as before...
