Dangerously mellow what's up. To craft the pickaxe you have to drop it in the smelter and then pull the lever thoes molds are there to give you back what isn't used
Or you can buy the dull pickaxe in the tier 2 shop

you should probably buy a pallet for moving large numbers of things
You can buy a hammer that makes stuff immobile or mobile as you need it. Its relatively cheap, and prevents accidentally picking uo the anvil or sorter by accident, or the platform or foundation block or stairs or whatever else the game arbitrarily decided you wanted to pick up.
I can heavily recommend setting up the hand sorter on a platform with the outflow aimed into an alley made of foundation blocks (they're very cheap) and the filter on its own platform. Set it up just right, and you can figure out the exact spot to drop one pan for the material you want.
I legitimately use that method just because it streamlined my simple setup. I'm gonna be miserable when I upgrade, but it has to be done.
Also, stairs. No more getting stuck trying to walk out of the mine. They're sort of cheap, and they make it so friggin' easy to *not get stuck* when trying to exit a tunnel you've dug.
Lastly, plumb the boosters *directly* into the machines. They don't speed up the flow; they reset it to match the intake. It raises it *back* to 100% *from where you place the booster itself.* So if it's the final piece of plumbing in the pipeline, you'll see a machine working at maximum performance instead of seeing a negligible change, if there's one at all.

You have to buy and build a tier 2 shop in order to get a pickaxe you need the materials to build it and money to buy it

You can put the bricks in a bucket and hold them all in one
Or put a Logic Switch (number pad looking thing) on the side of the brick maker, set it to 100, and have each brick you carry around weigh 100 units instead of 10
