Love the football from this era,....great atmosphere in smaller grounds, that had their own unique quirkiness and charm ....unlike the featureless bowls we get today , lacking the club heritage , and any real character........football today is just a money obsessed business,...lacking any real gritty football ethics and passion
Great upload how times and football has changed the two most expensive footballers of the day showing great courtesy greeting each other before game nowadays that would never happen
love Elton Welsby's high-tech studio ..... Gerald Sinstadt's "2 exciting young black players in City's lineup today" .... Big Mal ..... Robbo with West Brom ... United top of the League ...... and goalkeepers smothering and holding on to the ball outside the box at the risk of no more than a yellow card at worst !!
Elton Welsby, sports presenter, for Granada Television, 78-00. Elton Welsby hosted not just their regional sports show of Kick Off, but also hosting for Granada bowls, snooker, darts, speedway, boxing and football for the ITV region. In 83, the first time I saw Elton Welsby, he covered for Ian St John with On the Ball and also for Dickie Davies and World of Sport in 84.
Just put it out there on Twitter to @ITVfootball @BBCMOTD @bbcsport have they every thought about their own you tube channels showing classic Big Match/MOTD episodes, just a thought but if there's a demand I sure they would consider it, 👍🏻😀
The first couple of month’s matches weren’t shown due to the ITV strike from 10th August to 24th October 1979. The first programme back (27th October 1979) showed Everton v Manchester United. Also seen on that first episode back were Wolverhampton v Aston Villa from ATV and Luton Town v Preston North End from Anglia.
Just seeing this high tech countdown board feels soooo good. Do they still do this, prob not as it's simple, works fine & doesn't have a slew of passwords.
Nearing the end of big mals disastrous time at city and nearing the new era of John bond .it was great at first but then finances, boardroom decision making and fall outs oh and Peter swales .man city just had a massive slump and bond left so did Francis and it was a decade of mediocrity and pain for the loyal fans of this great

This was when England had strength in depth in the goalkeepers and with having Peter Shilton, Ray Clemence and Joe Corrigan to choose from

Love seeing that basic countdown transmission board, which just means happiness..
Been looking for Alex Bruce's PNE goal against Blackburn Rovers for ages. Won 2nd place for goal of the season, I believe.

He's the one who scored the second goal in the intro v Blackburn.

A month after this Manchester City got knocked out of the FA Cup by Division 4 Halifax Town
When Manchester City were Manchester City. But my what a dreadful team they were with big Mal.
City looked ropey at the back.
City were terrible in this game.Did they have 40 watt light bulbs in the floodlights?
