I like you, have gotten the call for the 40mm Explorer. It took a soul search but I declined as I really want to wait for a Sub no date. If do this, I need to do this proper or not at all.
Ive gone on the list for a green sub and gmt pepsi at two ADs. One AD is very cold and matter of fact and the other one will chat with me for awhile about all sorts of things and is very nice. I havent got the call for the watches I requested but last week I was offered a fluted bezel green dial DJ on jubilee but I turned it down bc I wouldnt have any money for the ones I want lol. Been about 7 months but im patient. Id rather wait then pay an extra 5-10k.
I got the call after 3 months last year about April time , I passed it up as I’d just bought the IWC MKXX. Today I got a text from the same AD and id completely forgotten about the Explorer, and now I’m so tempted to bite the bullet. The company bonus will be the deciding factor. If I get it, thats my last watch in my lifetime.
Waited over 3 years already, started with yellow OP or blue milgauss both discontinued in that time, swapped to a green OP. Had bought my wife a Tudor at this AD , thought it might help. It hasn’t and frankly I’m beginning to despise Rolex for their AD’s action, it’s all smoke and mirrors. It should be if you order a watch , you’re told how long it will take not just kept in the dark indefinitely. It’s soured what should be a pleasant experience.
It should be a 2 way contract, given the length of time and your history with the AD I think they should have delivered already, might be worth you registering elsewhere, that was going to be my next course of action in the new year
@@LastWatch I have considered going elsewhere, but I’ll be at the beginning again and who’s to say it would be any quicker. I won’t buy on the grey market at inflated prices but if they come down to near list I will and I’ll tell the AD to jog on. Fingers crossed.
I wonder why so many people get on the list for years and get nowhere. I asked for an Explorer 1, I got it within a week. I asked for a Wimbledon, I got it within 4 months. No prior purchase history either. Weird as I speak from my personal experience. May be I'm an outlying case on the statistical scheme of things. Yellow/green OP and Milgauss are very, very hard to get though. My AD didn't see many Milgauss coming in in a year, if at all.
I’ve been on the list for a 124170 (36mm Explorer) approximately 20 months now. I’m surprised by how long it’s taken but I’m hoping it’ll be soon. I’ve never had a high end watch and I wanted one to last a lifetime, I chose 36mm as I have a 6” wrist and it fits well. I hope I it get it in time for my 30th birthday.
@@LastWatch I have had a look but I’m still hoping to pick up a new one. I spoke to the AD yesterday and they said the current wait time is 12 months, when I asked if there was any reason my wait is so much longer they said there’s approximately 40 people ahead of me on their list. I’m hoping to get it for my 30th birthday in a few months, which is what I originally wanted it for and gave that reason when I put my name down.
Super sharp photography. Great story, the 40mm looks superb. When I set aside a few quid, I’d love a submariner and I’d be willing to play the long game.
I bought mine in June this year. I was told explicitly I would get mine the following month and sure enough I got it. I waited a year, and then made a couple of visits to make clear my intentions. Originally I wanted a datejust but it was too flashy for me. So I changed it
I'm based in Australia and I tried to get on a list just like you, a couple of years ago and was just flat out told, I would not be added.☹ But maybe it's time to try again.
I'm in Sydney and I got a call within a week. No prior purchase either. I can't say what I did right, but may be I was genuine/asked for a non-hyped watch (Explorer 1). Either way, good luck.
Wait. The Rolex market is imploding before our very eyes. In another year you'll be able to go into an AD & ask for a discount on a Rolex like the old days)
My AD is a family jeweler who builds multigenerational relationships. It’s a pleasure to give them my business, and “Yes, I happily purchased my Rolex Explorer from them”.
I got both Explorer 40 and Sub (non date). I honestly say I love them both dearly. I got the call 3 weeks ago, and I went in to pick it up just like that (after 3 years of waiting).
Never had yo wait for the call as i haven't placed an order for a rolex after 2010. Since 1976 till 2006 i bought a few, then 2006 bought the 1st cermamic version, was a full gold gmt green dial which traded (i know i know but hate vegetable dials) for a black dial yellow gold. Then 2008 bought the ss gmt and sold the gold, by target was since 2006 the ceramic. Then, 2010 i bought the sub in two tone black which traded with the steel 3 months later, the steel was unworn. 2 months later bought the DS 21mm lugs ad they said there wouldn't be anymore SDs.....Never fell for the 22mm version. Never looked back. The 3135 is great, i dont need the 3235 and surely wont fall for Rolex marketing tricks with the 41mm sub. That model cane way too soon.
We have similar taste my friend. My Rolex journey started with a DJ41 which was a short 1 month wait. I then picked up my rootbeer which was a whopping 3 years 😂 i can confirm it was worth it because its an amazing watch. I then picked up an Explorer 1 40mm about 3 months later. Im not in any rush to add more watches (or spend more money) but id love a Submariner no date one day. Enjoy your Explorer!
I’m happy for you mate, congrats on your Rolly! 3 years on the list? Must be a record for someone to actually get a watch (there are plenty who don’t). Anyone known longer than that?
I waited less than a week for my Explorer 36mm. Brand new AD that I walked in, dressed in my jeans and T-shirt. I asked for an Explorer 36 or DJ 36 as I work for the government so I wanted something understated and fits my baby size wrist. He took my details and I was invited upstairs to view more models and was then offered a 36 DJ white dial Roman numeral with diamonds at 6 and 9, but I didn't like it so I declined. I walked out not expecting anything from them, but I still got the call a few days later. May be I was genuine? He did tell me he called immediately when the watch arrived. It was a fun experience, getting my first Rolex. That was in April this year, now I have my DJ 36 Wimbledon fluted Jubilee that I want from my old AD in July and I think I'm done with Rolex, all their other watches are too big for me. That's my collecting journey with Rolex.
You're not kidding about the bracelet length! I usually have to remove 2-3 links but not with the Explorer. I originally wanted a 36 because of it being the classic size but I could only just get the 36 over my hand with a bit of a squeeze let alone do it up. I was further disappointed to find it looked ridiculous on my flat 8" wrist so turned to the 40. This looked the perfect size on the wrist thankfully but I could only get it done up with the Easylink extended. AD didn't bat an eyelid though and said it was no problem to add an extra link. Now I just need the one with my name on it to come in!
@@LastWatch Like to hope so, don't want to then join the wait list for a link :) Don't know if you've seen it mentioned elsewhere but the half links for the current Sub also fit but Rolex themselves deny it.
Forgive my ignorance. How does one know what the retail prices are without being at the shop and subject oneself to all the stress and maybe embarrassment if at all ?! 😂
According to a well-known jeweler in Portland, Oregon, 124060, 126610LV, and 126610LN are still about 2 years out...as of yesterday. I think I'll continue to use the clock on my phone to tell time.
Since my last comment, I decided to get a new band for my vintage Seiko 6309-7049 from 1984. Looks like new, and keeps perfect time. Wearing it right now!
I wonder if you registered your interest in Laings on Princes st like me? I popped my name down for a 124270 in september with no previous purchase history, but now hearing how long you waited I'm not filled with much hope lol
Well done Sherlock, if they’d been quicker I might have named them and given them some free advertising. On a positive note I’m hearing that reduced prices on the grey market are affecting retail lists

A lot of people are getting the call. If you wanted to go pre owned you can get that watch under retail, but you have to bargain and say no to the wrong price. I have a couple of Rolexes and unless they offer me a Daytona, I am done with Rolex.
Congrats mate, got the call today for my Root beer GMT Master II two tone, it’s come at the wrong time but hey, I’ve been on the list for nearly 3 years! I put my name down at an independent too I wouldn’t be surprised if I get the call there too as a mate did, 2 no date subs at once! (I’ve got one of them) pick up Friday just bought a Bel Canto too!😂
Tipp: You might want to check the Explorer's accuracy. I got my 40mm Explorer in September. And the accuracy is just out of this world. In more than 100 days, it is off by less than 9 sec. That's less than 0.1 sec/day. You would be hard pressed to find a quartz watch this accurate. Simply amazing!
@@LastWatch There's a guy who run the YT channel "Trei Ceasuri Rele" that claims there are issues in regard to the 32xx movement. He claims many people that have a Rolex with this movement have seen an amplitude drop over time and that the accuracy (and movement itself) is greatly affected. The comments in this video are interesting too as some people also seem to have had this problem. Now, I was considering putting my name on the "list" for an Oyster Perpetual in 36mm this year, but because of this video, I've decided to hold on a few months just to see how Rolex responds to this matter. I was just wondering if you had ever heard of this before and what are your thoughts about this problem. Thanks and great videos by the way, I really enjoy your channel. ~ Cheers!

You must have been tempted by the DJ.. I would love a pepsi I think the chances are slim to none, I also heard It may get discontinued very soon
I can't believe people will wait for a Rolex. Their watches are trite and they treat their customers like crap! Oh,,...and they lie!
Lie???
I just got the call for my 36mm! After over 3-4 years on the waitlist. 🔥 congrats
Just Crazy
I got the call after 3 months last year about April time , I passed it up as I’d just bought the IWC MKXX. Today I got a text from the same AD and id completely forgotten about the Explorer, and now I’m so tempted to bite the bullet. The company bonus will be the deciding factor. If I get it, thats my last watch in my lifetime.
I dont believe you, there is always another watch
My AD didn't see many Milgauss coming in in a year, if at all.
oh christ did you also go to laings like me? I've been waiting since September.... might just go grey after hearing this.
It may now be worthwhile checking out the grey market prices, consider there have been 2 price increases during your wait
You and me both!
I bought mine in June this year. I was told explicitly I would get mine the following month and sure enough I got it.
I waited a year, and then made a couple of visits to make clear my intentions. Originally I wanted a datejust but it was too flashy for me. So I changed it
Well done
I'm based in Australia and I tried to get on a list just like you, a couple of years ago and was just flat out told, I would not be added.☹ But maybe it's time to try again.
No harm in trying
I'm in Sydney and I got a call within a week. No prior purchase either. I can't say what I did right, but may be I was genuine/asked for a non-hyped watch (Explorer 1). Either way, good luck.
@@g43654I’m also based in Sydney mate. Which AD is this?
The way it should be
Looks really good on the wrist. Quite envious lol!
Enjoy it!
I’ll be picking when to wear this one, don’t think it will be a daily
I got both Explorer 40 and Sub (non date). I honestly say I love them both dearly. I got the call 3 weeks ago, and I went in to pick it up just like that (after 3 years of waiting).
I should be so lucky
Sounds like you have a wealth of experince and owned some great watches
It’s lovely , the explorer.
You have a well rounded Rolex 3 watch collection
🍿
I was choosing between this and the airking. I pulled the trigger on airking but still waiting for the call.
Brave man
I have the 40 mm … I LOVE IT!
Great vid - congratulations
Explorer lover here 👋🏾
Thanx
I want to get one but I'm poor and can't have one but I can still have a plastic watch 😢
Sounds like you have a new Omega Speedmaster. That is a fine watch.
I’m happy for you mate, congrats on your Rolly!
3 years on the list? Must be a record for someone to actually get a watch (there are plenty who don’t). Anyone known longer than that?
It would be good to hear the longest and shortest wait
I’m guessing a few people on the list ahead of him have died of old age…
I don’t even get on the ‘list’. Tried several times (even where I have a purchase history). Nuts.
Rolex are now dumping as many watches they can on the market as it collapses. So everybody gets a call now Lol
so, exactly how much time did you have to wait since you first put your name on the list and then got it?
I think it was closer to 3 years, something I will cover in a future review
You're not kidding about the bracelet length! I usually have to remove 2-3 links but not with the Explorer. I originally wanted a 36 because of it being the classic size but I could only just get the 36 over my hand with a bit of a squeeze let alone do it up. I was further disappointed to find it looked ridiculous on my flat 8" wrist so turned to the 40. This looked the perfect size on the wrist thankfully but I could only get it done up with the Easylink extended. AD didn't bat an eyelid though and said it was no problem to add an extra link. Now I just need the one with my name on it to come in!
I'm guessing they have a bunch of extra links in a drawer somewhere
@@LastWatch Like to hope so, don't want to then join the wait list for a link :) Don't know if you've seen it mentioned elsewhere but the half links for the current Sub also fit but Rolex themselves deny it.
Forgive my ignorance. How does one know what the retail prices are without being at the shop and subject oneself to all the stress and maybe embarrassment if at all ?! 😂
Check out the Rolex website
Oh! Thank you so much !!
According to a well-known jeweler in Portland, Oregon, 124060, 126610LV, and 126610LN are still about 2 years out...as of yesterday. I think I'll continue to use the clock on my phone to tell time.
I’m hearing the market is shifting and more models are becoming available
Since my last comment, I decided to get a new band for my vintage Seiko 6309-7049 from 1984. Looks like new, and keeps perfect time. Wearing it right now!
I wonder if you registered your interest in Laings on Princes st like me? I popped my name down for a 124270 in september with no previous purchase history, but now hearing how long you waited I'm not filled with much hope lol
Well done Sherlock, if they’d been quicker I might have named them and given them some free advertising. On a positive note I’m hearing that reduced prices on the grey market are affecting retail lists
Ye that's why I am considering just going grey because the small premium of maybe £500 could potentially be worth it. I also popped in on a saturday morning recently realised just how small a fish I am in a big pond.@@LastWatch
Joined the list for the 40mm Explorer & GMT Pepsi. Was told a few months & 2-3 years respectively... Oh well. What else would I be doing...
The only benefit of waiting is that it gives you time to save for the purchase, provided you don’t buy other watches 😂
@LastWatch That is an upside, I suppose. But I really like the Hanhart Mk 2 dual pusher... Didn't realize that it wasn't just Rolex that play the crazy waiting games. Congrats for hanging in there... 3 years is a long time...
A lot of people are getting the call. If you wanted to go pre owned you can get that watch under retail, but you have to bargain and say no to the wrong price. I have a couple of Rolexes and unless they offer me a Daytona, I am done with Rolex.
I think you may be right
Where are you seeing this under retain? I consistently see them listed for 1K USD over retail.
The way to win is not to play.
Like Wargames
Tic Tac Toe
Youve got to be prepared to play their little game.
War Games
Congrats mate, got the call today for my Root beer GMT Master II two tone, it’s come at the wrong time but hey, I’ve been on the list for nearly 3 years! I put my name down at an independent too I wouldn’t be surprised if I get the call there too as a mate did, 2 no date subs at once! (I’ve got one of them) pick up Friday just bought a Bel Canto too!😂
I'm drooling here, you didnt mention a watch that I wouldnt like to own
@@LastWatch 👍
Waited 3 years. You deserve it! Good choice, any Rolex GMT is a winner.
Turkey have loads of em 🤷🏼♂️
I’m in the wrong place
Got on the list for the Explorer I three years ago - gave up and got a DJ.
Retail or secondary market
Wow, 3 years for an Explorer 1? That's long...
Congratulations Ronnie! I'm very excited and happy for you!!
Thanks so much
Massive congrats, mate! Fantastic watch and looks good on you 🎉
Cheers Phil, not quite in your league but it’s a start
@@LastWatch Haha, slippery slope, my friend. Let's get that coffee soon.
Congratulations on the new edition. The Explorer is a simple yet beautiful piece. Id love to add one to my collection in the future.
probably the best release for a long time. This will be difficult to get in the future.
Just got mine last month
How long did it take?
@@bhuber77 I didn’t wait was offered by my AD had my first Rolex from them
Explorer at the top is like intentional trolling.
40 looks too big for your wrist. should have gone with the classic 36
Ultimately I think the 39 might be a better fit
It does not. Stop it
@@LastWatchit does not. It looks good
Agreed, theres also too much black space on the 40mm dial. The watch should be understated and fly under the radar.
I disagree. Over 6.5 inches wrist = 40mm Explorer is perfection
The 36 mm is the best size for me.
Why?
@@michaelriera6277 The proportions more aesthetic for my wrist and its a bit easier to wear. Just a matter of preference .
Tipp:
You might want to check the Explorer's accuracy.
I got my 40mm Explorer in September.
And the accuracy is just out of this world.
In more than 100 days, it is off by less than 9 sec.
That's less than 0.1 sec/day.
You would be hard pressed to find a quartz watch this accurate.
Simply amazing!
I just so happened to have invested in a timegrapher, the explorer will be put thru its paces
~ Cheers!
Dont do it guys
One scratch on that must leave a bad taste in the mouth.
Don’t, I’ll cry
Wise words.
@@LastWatchit's the scratches that make it original and yours
I'm doing it
I bought a Tudor from AD that also sells Rolex. After the sale i mentioned i was interested in Rolex. I followed up with a email and few texts. 3 months later I was offered Explorer 40! I was shocked it happened so quickly
Sounds like you did well, bought a watch you wanted and jumped the queue for an Explorer
You can pick up a no date sub for a few shillings over retail these days life's to short to wait for some AD jagoff to give me a ring however enjoy your new piece wear it in good health
Several hundred shillings over retail but prices are down
Subs are still nowhere near retail.
The good thing about this 40mm version, is the plethora of strap options now, and being such a lightweight face, it is a strap monster.
If you find it looks to big for your wrist, straps make a huge difference looks wise.
Noted
It’s my favourite Rolex, always has been. The bracelet on the 40mm model is just too wide for me, I love the taper on my Mk2.
Nice. I certainly couldn’t be arsed with the process but you’ve got what you wanted so enjoy.
Had the call for the 40mm Explorer a month ago, great watch couldn't get on with the 36mm Explorer has the Bracelet is far too narrow 🫣
Fantastic
I was like you at first. Now I love everything about the 36mm, including the slender bracelet. The Explorer is a very slow burner, that's for sure.
@@g43654 I've still got my Explorer 36mm,can't bring myself to sell it 🫣
