Most doctors and especially dermatologists agree: people usually shower too often which can lead to skin problems.
No, that is likely a bias. The ones which have problems because they are "showering too frequent", are also more likely to visit a doctor and a dermatologist when they have skin issues. The ones which skip the showers are more likely to not visit a doctor.
Also, if you are having issues, these likely are caused by the cleaning products you use, not the water itself. Switch to a lighter version of your cleaning product and/or don't apply it every day to sensitive areas, only the smelly ones. And use creams after to keep your skin moisturized.
@@viqtor23 There are sound theories on why this is so; www.health.harvard.edu/blog/showering-daily-is-it-necessary-2019062617193
over-cleanliness is also the leading suspect for the rise in various allergy and and other adverse immune system responses in our modern society. @@severinpaar6757 morning showerers stink the second they do any manual labor or exercise during the day and won’t be clean until the next morning. Gross
We are winning brother!!!
This is the first video from this channel I have disagreed with. As someone who hates waking up early and is more productive at night I never take morning showers. Never had an issue with smell or feeling gross in the morning.
I have tried morning showers and they suck. Also falling asleep while gross sucks. Also two showers in one day is a waste of water. On top of all of that I skip breakfast most mornings because waking up early is hard. I likely would just skip the shower if I left it for the morning. A whole day of filth is going to be more than a night of filth (especially if your sheets are clean).
Showering everyday might damage your skin and hair. You should shower everyday only if you live in a hot climate or you have a sweaty body. You won't stink if you went to your air conditioned office in your air conditioned car. Showering every other day is healthier and not dirtier than everyday
Exactly what I was going to comment!
Aren't we meant to exercise every day? Which would then mean we are sweaty every day
@@bball767 well most people do not excersise everyday. And yes even if you excersise everyday, showering everyday will damage your skin and hair. But in this case I believe the benefits of showering outweigh the cost of damaging the skin and needing skin products.

Polymatter: Moring Showers or Night Showers?
Me: yes
Shower after going to the gym, doesent matter what time of the day
Then there are dermatologists, who mostly all agree we shower too often anyways. Every 2-3 days is enough
It isn't though, people will stink after a day especially if they're exercising or it's warm. If showering once a day dries out your skin a bit... so be it, it's better than stinking. Trust me, people can tell that you don't shower every day, just because they don't say anything doesn't mean they don't notice.
@@_Super_Hans_ it all depends of what type of work you do
someone like me who works from home doesn't have to shower everyday but someone works on factory or construction or have to travel alot would shower everyday as to clean themselves
@@_Super_Hans_ I've been showering every 4-5 days for years and I frequently ask people I trust if I smell. I've never gotten a non-reassuring response. You've been raised in a culture of excessive cleanliness so you've probably never even tried not showering for a few days. I promise you won't smell as long as you don't exercise or go out in heat (while Polymatter is right that we passively produce some sweat and dead skin and accumulate airborne dirt particles, it's a truly insignificant amount. The notion that those factors alone could produce a smell is baseless BS).
@o m I live in California but I stay inside and go out at night. I've never felt sweat without exercising. Keep in mind that there's a genetic factor too, some people just sweat more or less than others. I don't see why people would be inclined to lie to me, I'm literally asking them directly. I've had other people ask me if they smell on several occasions. It's not that weird.

I feel like you would never understand the life of someone with long hair who doesn’t want to use a hair dryer because that would damage my hair. I can’t shower in the morning because my hair takes 4 hours or more to dry. The one time I took a morning shower it was in Boston in winter and my hair literally froze. Literally turned into icicles. So you have not convinced me, you have just shown me your ignorance.
Yeah this whole video screams stereotypical middle class guy.
What if you have long hair? What if you work a dirty job? What if you work a job that is mostly heavy labor? What if washing your bedding every week just isn't an option? What if you don't have the money to buy skin care products to undo the damage you are doing to your skin by showering too often?
You can get a shower and not wash your hair. I do it routinely as I have very thick and curly hair.
i'm half certain that's the entire point of this channel
also, you can very EASILY not smell bad in the morning by using deodorant/cologne/perfume.
it's pretty dumb to say we sweat anyway so let's not be clean before bed... obviously bedsheets do get dirtier even if people bathe before sleeping - it just gets dirty MUCH MORE SLOWLY. people who go to bed without showering - good luck sharing a bed with your spouse.
if you don't shower before sleeping, you are OBLIGATED to shower when you wake up - cos holy hell you've accumulated a day + a night of stank under your sheets. but if you bathed before sleeping, then it's just that clean baseline + 8hrs in bed, which is fairly minimal.
as for the hair thing? short-haired people can wet their hair in the morning without taking an entire shower. it's so simple. wet it + gel/styling cream/product.

I’m going to disagree because of two reasons. First, body temperature. Your body’s temperature fluctuates throughout the day, and morning showers screw up the temperature cycle. Secondly, I have allergies and I do not want to be bringing in any pollen or other stuff into my bed each night. Also a bonus reason: I cant sleep if I feel sticky.
Shower before bed ,and after a day of work duties it's a must.
Morning Shower are just extra.

I will also die on this hill. There is no way in hell I'm going into bed after all the dirt of a day of work. Also if you smell from just sleeping, something is wrong with your health. The most you should need is a baby wipe clean under the arms and you should be good to go.

Its disgusting to get in bed dirty after the whole day
Showering every other day is perfectly acceptable if you'd don't do a strenuous, physical, sweat-inducing activity... change my mind.
AND if you don't live in the tropics with high humidity.
@@alveolateas a farmer from Georgia(subtropical climate) I feel called out.
As an allergy sufferer, taking a night shower helps remove any allergens gathered from going out in the world and from working at my dirty workplace (I teach high school, the building was built in the 70s, and the vents are crammed full of dust). It helps me sleep better and keeps me healthier.
You can also get bamboo sheets to keep your body cooler and sweat less.
I guarantee you that you wouldn't be able to tell the difference in smell between a morning or night shower person.
The best thing to do is to take a hot shower at night where you thoroughly wash your body with soap to get the dirt of the day off and then take a quick cold shower with no soap in the morning to rinse off.
My sedentary life makes showering every day impractical and just a waste of water. I shower every other day typically, unless I've done something really strenuous.

Well... Why not both? :)
poor body oils
It's unhealthy to shower twice a day. Once a day is already too much unless you live in a hot/humid climate and/or sweat often.
In other words you should only shower when you feel dirty or sweaty, showering too often damages the skin and harms your body's microbiome.
@@anonymousanonymous31 Well I agree wirh you, Mate. :) Here in Indonesia (especially during the Dry Season), the weather could get.... a bit hot.
yo, you're actually pretty funny and you should keep making these
Yeah... no. This is the first Hill I have to disagree with. If I'm showering in he morning, no matter how well I try to dry off, my hair WILL be wet throughout a portion of the day. Particularly, it will be wet through the coldest part of the day. It's already cold enough on my morning commute, I don't need to add wet to that as well. Additionally, I physically can't not shower as soon as I get home from work. It might be optional for a desk job, but I'm a welder. The sweat I produce throughout the day is a drop in the bucket compared to the smoke, soot, and fumes that I come home covered in. My family shouldn't hug me until I wash off the grime. Even if I wake up sweaty and overheated, I don't think it's possible to notice over the immediate layer of smoke, steel, and ozone I get covered in.
Essentially, this is a very "white collar metro commuter" opinion.
Counterpoints:
1. Anyone who has a job that requires then to get dirty (construction, mechanic work, waste disposal, working out in the hot sun...) Means that they'll go to bed with all the uncomfortable dirt and grime, as well as dirtying up any house clothes they put on afterwards. (PJ's and whatnot). Not very appealing for a Significant other.
2. Time, having to plan around a shower means you're likely going to have to rush, especially if anything comes up. (Plus when you take into account how finicky sleep can be, where it can be easy to go to sleep late and oversleep).
3. The actual benefits of sleeping more relaxed, not spending 8-9+ hours in a Petri dish of dirt, and on hot nights, a bit damp and cool.
"There are other ways to relax" is not a valid counterargument if said thing is good without any direct harm. That's like saying "you can enjoy other activities than reading a book" to try to discredit reading.
In London, you walk on the left side of the escalator I’ll have you know
its more of a russian roulette when it comes to sides to walk on in britain tbf
in singapore, we have signs telling you to keep left.
high traffic areas even have lanes painted on the ground, and our subway has barriers to direct flow for the most crowded stations.
You're crazy! Left side of the escalator is for walking, right side for standing (in the U.K. at least)! Also who gets annoyed at people walking on the wrong side?! If you're walking on the wrong side it's because it's clear and not a problem, worst that happens is you have to stop when you catch up to a stander and have to stop or go around them, it's those standing on the wrong side who're the problem! You're a wrong side stander, aren't you!?
I wonder if he meant to say, "don't stand on the left side of the escalator"? 🤔 Usually people just stand all over it, especially couples standing side by side. Pisses me right off when I'm in the airport LOL, but as far as I know the general etiquette is to stand on the right walk on the left
By taking a morning shower, I'm taking one for my non-existent son and wife, and boss. Therefore I don't take morning showers. They are non-existent, they get non-existent showers. Very simple.

The most obvious way to signal that you're _extremely_ new to city living is by standing on the left side of the escalator. You will be instantly despised by your fellow commuters. The left side of the escalator is specifically for walking - the right side is for standing.
Re: showers: showering twice daily is hell for my skin and I will not spend an extra hour each morning to apply the various creams and lotions prescribed to me by my doctor to deal with that shit. I won't blow-dry my hair - by the time my hair is dry I've gotten warm enough to start sweating, completely defeating the supposed purpose of the morning shower. And, look, I don't know what you get up to while you're sleeping but I sure as hell don't wake up smelling or looking unwashed.
In covid times, if you can smell me, you're way too close. In normal times, morning showers to feel good, evening showers to feel clean.
Perhaps your sense of smell isn't as strong or Keen as a normal person's, because it's very easy to smell someone even if they're not sitting next to you and just in the same room. Unless you work from home people are going to smell you if they walk by you, follow you through a door, and so on. Please don't be stinky
1am is technically in the morning
I think evening showing is more convenient, especially if you go to toilet prior to that as well. This will give you more time in the morning to do a light workout a bit, to cook some food, and prepare better overall. If you go to toilet, shower and everything else in the morning it feels like you don't have enough time to do everything so you have to rush a bit or wake up 1-2 hours earlier. So I think evening shower is overall much better and more time saving🤔🤔🤔

🤔His primary reason is to not smell for society. If that was your point then showers aren't the answer but deodorant/antiperspirant. People can still smell several hours after a shower but deodorant/antiperspirant provides a fresh scent for the whole day sometimes 2 days regardless of shower or sweat. That's the hill to die on.
Ok, so what's dirtier? A piece of meat rolled around in filth and left to sit for eight hours, or a piece of meat washed off and left to sit for eight hours? The social contract isn't "shower in the morning" it's "don't be unclean".

Exactly, the guy who made this video is probably single
One small oversight, considering people you live with. If society requires me to wake up at an ungodly hour, say 5am, and I have ~45 min the get ready, I would have plenty of time to shower but would risk every morning waking up everyone else up thus ruining there mornings because showering is probably the loudest thing you could do to get ready. Also if you have a significant other and you plan to get intimate in the evening. Being freshly clean is a much added bonus to prolonging multiple intimate engagements
I shower at night but if I'm feeling fancy I'll take a shower in the morning also.

I don’t have AC and in summer when it gets to 90 to 100+ degrees I take the coldest shower possible right before I go to sleep. That’s the hack. It doesn’t solve the problem of waking up in a puddle of sweat tho
I mean, what’s the point of morning showers? Night showers are for cleaning your body after a long day of dirt and sweat and to making sleeping more comfortable, but you wake up clean in the morning so why the hell take a morning shower (I don’t smell, sorry)? Who wants to sleep in filth and sweat? Morning shampoos make sense tho because you know messy hair.
Interesting thing to think on. Why so condescending about me just wanting to feel nice after a hard day tho. This video just makes me feel like it is something abhorrent to do something for yourself and your own pleasure and mental health.
Also, I have naturally greasy hair and there's no feeling worse than to wake up with that disgusting crow nest on your head.
Why not just say "wash if you feel dirty" . Wash if you woke up all sweaty. Wash if you came home from hard physical work or exercises. Take a hot shower if that is the thing you use to mentally decompress and just need to gather your thoughts and feel some comfort. That's a thing too. And I would bet a lot more important than what "society" (which more often than not does not care) thinks. Keep away from me time.

Ewww, not showing before bed it gross. I get the video is saying that your sheets still get dirty even if you shower before bed, but they will be a lot cleaner between washings if you shower before getting into bed each night. Unless you sweat a whole bunch in your sleep, you should still be clean enough in the morning to forgo a shower and should only need to brush your teeth, put some deodorant on, and maybe rinse your head under the tub faucet to get rid of bed hair and eye boogers.
