What you said about building up your own portfolio was really inspiring. I'm training to be a game developer (currently a tester) and I have motivational issues but I'm going to do some studying right after this video!
as someone currently at uni doing games media its really great to hear from someone doing what they love, really fills me with confidence to keep going forwards
Kenneth Woodard XD I agree. I think its due to Zoey an Fionna moving into a house together then having to catch up with Beyond Mushbury before the Blackrock Chronicles can start again
Kenneth Woodard They are probably still setting everything up because moving in can take months even though you would purchase a house to move in within a week if you're lucky
Danofreya I just didn't want an influx of comments saying "Ooh, that must be painful" or anything. Something like that happened to me on Hat Films' channel the other day when I said I was dying of laughter and didn't clarify my metaphor *shrugs*
I think that advice about building a portfolio is brilliant, because like Kim was saying, the thing employers want in people they hire today is experience, so if young, unexperienced people want to get more experienced, they might have to work on their own and try to do the job they want to get. They may not be paid with money for it, but the experience they get from it will be worth all the money they ever earn when it does convince someone to give them a job.
Enjoyed this Q&A. Love Kim's amazing attitude. It is lovely and refreshing. Thanks to Kim for making mention of paper and pen being awesome. Encouraging to letter writers everywhere. Keep it up Kim and ignore negative people... we all love you for who you are.
I loved this video, you're so passionate about everything and your answers were great! Now I feel the need to check out all those movies you mentioned.
Hey kim, to be honest the middle of the US isnt popular for a reason, It's basically farmland with a few medium size cities sprinkled in, but naturally pretty.
Kim, I don't want this to sound cheesy and I know you probably won't even see this or take notice of it, but thank you. For everything. I'm only 13, but I just had to write this. It also may seem weird that I'm about to say all of this stuff, when you don't even know me and I don't know you (I wish I did), but whatever, this is how I feel about you. I'm sure all of your fans are as grateful as I am, if not more, for the inspiration and joy that you bring to us. I'm not going through a 'rough time' as people say, but I do need something to entertain me when I'm low (as I'm sure most people do) and you are just that. I want to be a successful UA-camr myself and I know it will probably never happen, but if it does, I will always remember that you were my inspiration and that you were the impact on my career. You're one of the UA-camrs who isn't stuck up and I just want to thank you for that too and say that you deserve all of this. You got here yourself through the rough times that I know you have had. The haters gonna hate (although I don't see why they would), but I've seen that you have got through them and I'm sure you will continue to do so. Good on you. :) Thanks again Kim. Always a fan/NanoByte if that's a thing. ;) :) You've deserved your amazing life. I love you. Thank you and good luck. :)
Damn. I thought that this video was just going to be another Q&A with just pointless questions riddled throughout. Turns out that this video was incredibly informative not just about your life but to the viewers as well. This is the type of inspiration people need to keep at the jobs that they desire to do in the future. I've got to admit, just listening to your answer of the last question was enough to make me want to go back to doing games design and start working on something from home. I'd just like to thank you for making this video and answering each question in as much detail as you could. :)
To add to what Kim said about "If you want to do something as a job, start doing it yourself..." YES! I started making videos for UA-cam in my free time in 2007, and since then my stuff has been picked up by film festivals, I've had some cool commissions, I got into uni by showing what I've made and I got to work with the Yogscast. In the Internet age, it's so easy to put yourself out there. Just get to work and someone will notice you!
Having done the big American coast-to-coast road trip twice so far, the best way to do it is in an RV (think Winnebago, etc.). It's a home away from home, restroom wherever and whenever you need it, and plenty of campsites and parking at all the touristy places.
I love The Tolerator! These arms were made for huggin'! Also, holy crap, that multimedia player is amazing. Also-also, great, great, GREAT advice in the end. As an artist, that message is something I've been needing to hear for a long time.
Your advice is so good Kim, I wished others were this good at advise instead of the same shambles and indecisive advise. That's what I really like about you Kim you're decisive and to the point, no hovering around the issue.
your advice to Fallout97 was great! it really spoke to me as an aspiring artist. I'm gonna have to work a little harder to polish my work. thanks Kim and great vlog!
I picked mine a week and a bit ago. Trust me, don't stress yourself out over them. Do what you are good at and what you like; just hope you get your main choices :)
Loved this new series Kim! :3 Definitely gives us more insight into your life plus it's great to have more interaction with you! :3 And definitely return to Australia please, all of us Australian fans would be happy! c:
Kim, I could hear the passion in you voice in this video and you've really given me some tips for the future (I am 13 soon to be 14)!! On a lighter note (pun not intended), the lighting in this video made you seem like some kind of light-summoning entity who used her sun calling powers in between jump cuts XD
This was a great "getting to you know you" video with some great practical advice for getting into the industry. I look forward to more of this in the future. Thanks!
If you do a road trip across the U.S. then take your time in Colorado. It's beautiful. It's got plains, it's got forest, it's got mountains, it's got mountainous forests, and it's got desert. On the west side of Colorado, in a town called Grand Junction, go to the Colorado National Monument. You get the most beautiful views of an interesting town and the beautiful red mountains.
You're a really inspirational person! I would love to get more into writing, since the English language (I'm dutch myself) and videogames are both a real passion of mine. :) This Q&A was really insightful, thanks!
I'm studying digital art in Liverpool City college I have always loved art and drawing and creating but when was in high school they tryed pushing me into a career in maths because I was good at maths but I carried on with art and then discovered graphic design and fell in love with it now I am always playing around with logos and business cards and have built up a portfolio and I am only first year college with 2 more years to go then uni and I couldn't be happier x
Its true, if you want to do something, jump in, learn it and do it. Its a hard road but its worth it to get that portfolio prepped. Just don't get abused as free labor, that was a big issue out here in Toronto in art for a few years. P.s. loved the VLog hope you keep going with it ^^
Kim! If you're looking for an excuse to come to Australia, come to PaxAus in November this year! :D Would love to see you (and maybe other yogs as well?) :D And no matter what, DON'T STOP BEING AWESOME :D
If you do an American road trip, you HAVE to stop in Richmond, Virginia. We're considered one of the best up-and-coming cities in the U.S. AND we are becoming a major foodie town, because who doesn't love food? Our Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is considered world-class (sorry you missed the exhibit from the Forbidden City) and it is the happiest city in the nation.
Wow, Kim. I am not typically the "motivated by someone telling me to do something" type, but you have deeply inspired me with your advice. Although I have gotten all As in school with some Bs here and there, I have never really given any thought into what I want to do beyond school. Thank you, it was a nice change of pace from the usual gaming content.
Whenever Kim shoots in her room I keep looking at the bookshelf and I always enjoy what i see, like her collection of Murakami books, the Atlas Cloud (which is the same edition I got my brother for his birthday) or even Miyuki Miyabe's Grotesque (same edition I have but I haven't gotten around to reading it yet). Also it's awesome that she liked the Raid, that movie deserves way more spotlight than it got, both of them. Chaser a rare case of a movie which made me think "this is too fucked up". And whenever I think about writing I always go back to thinking about Spider Jerusalem, cause.. well "Journalism is just a gun. It's only got one bullet in it, but if you aim right, that's all you need. Aim it right, and you can blow a kneecap off the world."
I'm in a bad place right now with my life and feeling totally in limbo... but I'm going to save this pep talk to re-listen to over and over to keep me going :D *hugs* from MB! :)
I actually live in Arizona and have gone on lots of road trips on those long deserted roads and you have no idea how boring they are when you have to drive on them! They are in essence a long, hilly, curvy line that you drive on for hours and hours, but I get why you would like them just I for one don't due to my constant travel on them.
Kim you are SO awesome! It's so nice to have followed your channel since it came up :3 I still remember being seriously curious about the rumors of a new yogscast youtuber, at the time xD
Holy crap! I didn't know the choreographers/martial artists from the raid movies are helping with the new Star Wars! That will be awesome to see some of their work in the new movie, they did a fantastic job!
Depending on what experience you want in norway i recommend the west part of it for the fjords and muntains and the ski resorts but if you want more of the really cold areas you might consider the north part. If you wqnt good snow i suggest in january or somthing like that because the snow has now gone frim powder snow to ice snow. Please take a visit and enjoy
Thank you Kim, I've done game reviews before and I was going to get it published at the end of this year. My dream job is to work at The Yogscast and it has been for at least 3-4 years now. I am starting a game design course soon. But if there is jobs in the yogscast in 3 years I will be there ASAP with my portfolio thank you :D
Why thank you for this Kim! Loved your tips for getting into the industry and very relevant for me sence soon I will have to figure out something else to do sence I can`t stay at my current job. Also YES Kim you need to come to Finland and come see me :D Anyway, keep up the good work and I`d love to see more of these Ask Kims!
My top 5 films of all time! feel free to reply with yours or if you agree :) 5.Hot fuzz 4.shaun of the dead 3.Avatar 2.Gladiator 1.The Last Samurai these are just 5 films I watch time and time again
Given your love of Korean movies it surprised me you didn't add Korea as a place to visit :O I love this idea and the music is a great selection, looking forward to the next Ask video! :)
Kim, I just want to correct you, The Raid and The Raid 2 are Indonesian movies. And thank you so much for praising the fight choreography, and indirectly praising Iko Uwais and Yayan Ruhiyan for their awesome technique in Pencak Silat (Indonesia's local martial art) :D
austin m. I know, but he's who I always assume people are talking about when they say Captain Marvel unless they specify or the context would make it unlikely. She only said Captain Marvel, though, so I have completely no idea.
Brisbane's a pretty cool place. source- I live and study here. But, I've been other places in Australia too... I went camping on a tropical coral cay for school. Like, not on some special school trip but actually as part of the syllabus for certain subjects. It was for Marine Studies, and there was another trip for Biology. Because it wouldn't make that much sense to send the law students to a deserted tropical island would it? Geography got another trip to a different tropical island too... Obviously we have way too many places to go visit for excursions right? Never mind the sharks! And yes, we went snorkeling whilst out on a deserted tropical island. And yes there were sharks. Nobody got attacked and we all made it home safe... We also saw 5 baby turtle hatchlings! SO CUTE! I've also been sailing around the Whitsundays. This time for a family trip. Middle of the Australian Winter, and the weather was Beautiful and the temperature was fine (being well into the tropics) and I stood on White Haven beach and IT WAS AMAZING! I've also been to Sydney a couple times. It's not that great... Maybe that's my Queensland bias kicking in though. Queensland and NSW kinda have a rivalry... Actually, NSW has a rivalry with pretty much everyone, because it's got the biggest city in Australia and yeah... Mind you, it's got the suburb of Woolloomooloo in it so... It's not ALL bad... I have made none of this up. No, seriously, EVERYTHING I'VE SAID IS TRUE.
WoWShausa Considering the weather Queensland has had over the past few days, I can't say it's heaven here. You know, with a Cyclone hitting Rockhampton and it being quite damp in Brisbane. The weather normally has a hard time making up its mind sometimes. Sydney has more predictable weather. But I still prefer it here in Brisbane.
Skystarry75 Truer words have scant been spoken. It's so depressing, honestly. EDIT: I am very much jealous of their lack of cane toads, though. Lucky bastards.
Skystarry75 You talking about cyclone Marcia? Cause she was a bad one :P Yes! White Havens beach is amazing! If you ever wanted the perfect beach, White Havens is your go to :D
I really enjoyed this video! Looking forward to seeing more! I think I might be youtube crushing on this wonderful yogscast crewmember hahahaha. Thanks for the great content! Keep up the awesome work! :D
Hey Kim love your videos they make my day more enjoyable. Btw love the comic collection you have there in your room. "Y the last man" is on of my favorite comics love that story. The ending was meh but great story overall. You guys should do a Resident Evil HD play through. Keep up the great work and thanks so much 😺
I live in Sweden and I have lived in Japan and America and I go to Stavanger, Norway during weekends. I've done a road trip in America and New Zealand. Crazy
You are such an inspirational person- there should be more people like you out there.
Thank you Kim, for giving us insights into who you are, you are an amazing beautiful person with a genuine kind caring loving heart. I am a fan ♥

Please make more of these. I really enjoyed it and found it so interesting!
as someone currently at uni doing games media its really great to hear from someone doing what they love, really fills me with confidence to keep going forwards
16:30 - 20:30 Some of the most inspirational, heartfelt advice I've ever heard from someone. Thank you very much Kim.
Hah! The Tolerator. Very PG-13. :)
YU no Blackrock?!
Kenneth Woodard XD I agree. I think its due to Zoey an Fionna moving into a house together then having to catch up with Beyond Mushbury before the Blackrock Chronicles can start again
catucat namine Are they still not moved in? they've been talking about that forever now!
Kenneth Woodard They are probably still setting everything up because moving in can take months even though you would purchase a house to move in within a week if you're lucky
rythian I know that Zoey is busy or her computer is messed up or something but please try to get black rock on the new sever please rythian
My heart just melted, metaphorically speaking...
Oh arceus I thought you were gonna melt to death at first. That was an emotional rollercoaster XD
Danofreya I just didn't want an influx of comments saying "Ooh, that must be painful" or anything. Something like that happened to me on Hat Films' channel the other day when I said I was dying of laughter and didn't clarify my metaphor *shrugs*
My heart melted... Literally.

Question for Kim: What's your cup size..... my normal size is medium but I may go large if I'm thirsty enough.
*slow clap* good job
nice one XD

lol, I seen that and just sighed, then I read on and laughed my arse off for like 10 mins. :P
That question could have been a lot worse

If you could have any animal as a pet, what would it be and why?
Thx for all the awesome videos :D
Kim, you have help me through so much I've look you to you so much I'm happy that you are doing what you love and that help me. Thank you.

Thanks!

Kim ur so inspiring. Love the new question series :D keep on being awesome
Love that you have your volumes of Y: The Last Man behind you. Love those comics, and Brian K. Vaughan!
Love these kind of videos, always interesting to find out more about the person's background
Its true, if you want to do something, jump in, learn it and do it. Its a hard road but its worth it to get that portfolio prepped. Just don't get abused as free labor, that was a big issue out here in Toronto in art for a few years.
P.s. loved the VLog hope you keep going with it ^^
Thx a lot for this video, for sharing with us more of your life. I really appreciate that. Greetings from Colombia.
Very wise words Kim and some great encouragement! =) I look forward to the next "Ask Kim"

I love the Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy too.
Your portfolio speech was really inspirational and now I really want to chase my dream of becoming a game designer!
That portfolio/job talk really helped, my school went into that a little bit but not in great detail. It would have helped so much in the past! D:
You are awesome Kim!
Please do more of these Kim :) Also definitely come to New Zealand, you'd love it here. I would love to do a US roadtrip with you ahhh.
ILY, Kim. You are the best!!!
I'm in a bad place right now with my life and feeling totally in limbo... but I'm going to save this pep talk to re-listen to over and over to keep me going :D *hugs* from MB! :)

Kim you are SO awesome! It's so nice to have followed your channel since it came up :3 I still remember being seriously curious about the rumors of a new yogscast youtuber, at the time xD
This was very enjoyable and actually inspiring for someone that wants to get into a creative industry - no pressure for the next one ;)
I found this video very inspirational, thank you!
I loved this video!! You are such a good youtuber you've made a lot of progress I'm so happy for you
Holy crap! I didn't know the choreographers/martial artists from the raid movies are helping with the new Star Wars! That will be awesome to see some of their work in the new movie, they did a fantastic job!
If you ever come to America for that road trip, make sure to come on down to Texas!
I've got 2 questions
1 if you didn't do youtube what would you do as a job
2 if you had to live inside a game what would it be
1. She's answered that already
2. Of course she would go with final fantasy
Bluetorress2 1. and what was her answer?
2. how do you know?
On #2 were you watching sword art online?

The force awakens will be AMAZING!
Adding GAMES JOURNALISM in the title = instant 1 million views and crazy numbers of comments arguing. Well done Kim
Kim, I just want to correct you, The Raid and The Raid 2 are Indonesian movies. And thank you so much for praising the fight choreography, and indirectly praising Iko Uwais and Yayan Ruhiyan for their awesome technique in Pencak Silat (Indonesia's local martial art) :D

ya me too or at least the girl or boy
We at least need to know if she's talking about DC or Marvel.
***** the DC captain marvel is shazam now not captain marvel
austin m. I know, but he's who I always assume people are talking about when they say Captain Marvel unless they specify or the context would make it unlikely. She only said Captain Marvel, though, so I have completely no idea.
dublinjake That's the original one I was referring to.
I've been to NZ, it was beautiful! :3
QUEENSLAND SUCKS! NSW FOREVERRRR!
Necromantic Harbinger Nah, it's just everywhere... Seriously, can't talk about one without the other getting involved...
Skystarry75 Truer words have scant been spoken. It's so depressing, honestly.
EDIT: I am very much jealous of their lack of cane toads, though. Lucky bastards.
Skystarry75 You talking about cyclone Marcia? Cause she was a bad one :P
Yes! White Havens beach is amazing! If you ever wanted the perfect beach, White Havens is your go to :D

Oliver Puffer Agreed. ERAGON FTW
