I still think it’s a goaltend (i’m a Butler fan), but there’s another part of the rule that is so much more obvious of a goaltend. The ball cannot be touched when it is above the rim and within the imaginary cylinder. It clearly was when it was blocked, so goaltend.

(This exact same thing happened my Senior year, when a Junior guard who was pretty smart, somehow missed the fact we were up 2 and coming out of a timeout just fouled their best player, but we didn hold on to win, we lost in OT) Then grabbing the rim and negating your teammates timely block that would have sent the game to OT. Just unsmart gameplay. COVID and its unnecessary shutdowns really hurt development and we are seeing that now.
I'm interested in that very last shot and why the same ref who confirmed the goaltend is watching the path of the ball in the air instead of tracking the play. It looked like the shooter got taken out of the air after he released it, before time expired.
I’ve been going to Butler games since I was #1. Were a proud program that and to back to back NC’s. We should not storm the court after beating an in conference #10 ranked team. That’s what not great programs do.
Storming the court after beating the #13 ranked team is not a good look for Butler. They are better than that. I'd understand storming the court if like IUPUI just beat the #13 team or if Butler had just beat the #1 ranked team. But #13? Smh lol. @@10thletter40 i believe it was because the other player touched the rim after it was blocked; the rule for goaltending is touching the rim or backboard whilst the ball is in the air however, in this context, i think it is dumb because it was blocked already why award points to something very clearly not going in? in football, a pass interference has a technicality to it that it can only be pass interference.... if there's a pass to interfere with unless they are holding, which is a completely different penalty but if the pass is just thrown way off, there's technically no pass interreference because the ball aint going to where its supposed to go anyway something like this should definitely apply to goaltending because xavier lost the game, and perhaps their ranking because of this call

If anything that would be basket interference. So the question would be: can the refs go back and decide it was interference when the call on the floor was a goaltend? Also, is it still interference if another defender has already touched the ball? But again I'm not sure if they are even allowed to review that. My take is, in the spirit of the game that was a great block and it shouldn't have counted. Basket interference didn't matter at all in that situation although by the rules it probably was.

The call is correct because the shooter had the ball over the cylinder. Once it’s there, you cannot touch the ball

The only thought I had was to prevent a possible 3 pointer. At least with the foul, Xavier would only shoot 2 free throws to tie it up.
