Those trangia stoves look interesting! I’ve never used one but will endup with one more than likely. You’re welcome and I’ll try to keep oddball stoves in the mix. Thank you!
Those are real finds. I was unaware alcohol stoves have such a history. Can you imagine a company manufacturing those ion the east and west coast before air or train travel? Even telegraph was spotty. Sparks the imagination, doesn't it?
Very cool collection. I have a hobo stove,( stick stove), I made out of a couple of tin cans. Works very well but it's difficult to fold up, lol. What a score picking those up so cheap.
I love the hobo stoves, they’re fantastic and we did a bit with the Boy Scouts years ago using them. If it works use it! I wouldn’t be too worried about folding the hobo stoves up as well as they work lol. They’re still pretty darn light. Every once in a while I get lucky, I never really go out looking for specific things, I just grab what looks old and cool then learn how to use them. Thank you for watching and have a great day my friend!
It’s my pleasure! You’re welcome! I’m hoping that it’ll bring more interest in these little stoves and folks will start looking for them and using them. They’re a lot of fun and they work really well.
Thank you for watching! Hopefully I’ll have another video up soon on a few other vintage single burners stoves. I’d love to see these rescued and put to use.
I wouldn't mind getting one of those Whitall-Tatums. BTW: if you sprinkle a pinch of salt into the alcohol as it burns, the flame will show up as yellow; a nice safety consideration.
That’s a great idea!! Definitely a great safety idea!! I hope that you find one of those stoves, they’re great pieces. Thank you for the salt suggestion, that’s awesome!!
I've got two of the Tatums, one used and one unused. Found them on EBAY USA about five years ago and had them shipped to the UK. I think I paid in the region of $20 each plus shipping.
I'm about to start watching for one of these! I'd rather have an old bad ass one like these then one of those new jobs! Awesome video! Thanks for sharing! 🤠👍💯
I've acquired 2 of the Whitall Tatum pocket stoves and have decided the base and pot stand are worth their weight to carry - one for the backpack, and one for the day hike bag. Ultra light has no value when your pot tips over, and this one is solid! But instead of the burner I use solid fuel or the Pillbottle stove. Still under 6 oz.
.. those have sparked my imagination!! Thanks. Do any of these have holes around that creates jets?? It would be great to see new versions inspired by these antique gems..!!
No they don’t have any holes that create jets. I think the newest version would be like a sterno camp stove? I’m not up on any of the new gear but I agree with you. I’d love to see a modern version of these little stoves too! It would be very interesting. Thank you for watching, everyone’s interest drives me to find and resurrect forgotten pieces!!!
Thanks for sharing. I had no idea that they made alcohol stoves this long ago. Just when I thought I had enough stoves.. wives everywhere are going to hate you now 🙂
🤣😂 they take up a lot less space than those Coleman’s, which is another addiction altogether. I guess we could be getting into a lot worse!! Thank you for watching!
I found them on eBay quite a few years ago. I have always been into primitive camping so I figured I would try them, and with no regrets. They’re awesome
The second one you demoed had as many features as a modern day stove. Are the cardboard boxes over one hundred years old?? I'm 49 years old now, as a kid we would go to military surplus stores and there would be this kinda Kool stuff stocked to the ceiling at dirt cheap prices. They bought one of those tents like they used on MASH. Used it for years on a dear hunting club every season for years. Anyway I'd save up $$$$ and get someone to take me to those places and get camp supplies. Most if not all of them have been stolen by meth heads. Anyway I guess those days of picking up military surplus at nearly give away prices are gone forever, or until the end of WWIII!!!! Hopefully Slow Joe will be stopped before it starts.
Ahhh yes I remember the old time surplus stores as a kid too!!! It was like a candy store with every type of candy imaginable. The cardboard boxes are original and are pretty fragile. The old advertisement is so cool. The whitall tatum is such a cool little stove and I wish they still made them!!!! Thank you for the reminder of the good old days of the surplus armory, I miss that place!!
For those of us that enjoy stoves, this video is a little gem. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you!! I will be doing a video hopefully in a few weeks on waxing an early 1900s canvas E.A. Grout backpack.
@@mountainghost4523 Lol…such unique interest in those that came before us. What a treat!
@@janmariolle the inventions were incredible and I’ll do my best to keep searching for items like this to bring them back to light. Thank you so much

Thank you I sure do appreciate it! I hope that more are found in yard sales, I’d hate to think that they’re just discarded. Such great little stoves!
Great video Dwight!
This is David Barlow here with Snuggles.
Thank you my brother!!!!
Wow y
that is impressive..
The cap with the smaller hole is a simmer ring.
Perfect! I'm surprised no one is offering to buy them! What would you like for those? 🤠👍💯
Unfortunately they’re not for sale. I do quite a few demonstrations on vintage camping and they’re part of the demo. Thank you for watching!
@@mountainghost4523 😆 had to try lol 🤠👍💯
Absolutely, I don’t blame you lol!!!
Where in gods name did you find these
