  • Hi Everyone!
My name is Dan, and I am a veterinarian. In this video I cover the pet anesthesia machine. This is the machine that will keep your pet under anesthesia during surgery. Anesthesia machines are pretty similar between veterinary clinics.
The anesthesia machine has oxygen tanks attached to it for delivery of oxygen and anesthetic gas to the patient. The oxygen is controlled by a nob which is the oxygen flow meter. The high the flow meter is set the more oxygen that is developed with anesthetic gas to the dog or cat.
The anesthetic gas is either isoflurane or sevoflurane. Our anesthesia machine uses isoflurane. The anesthetic gas can be increased or decreased by a nob as well.
The gas is delivered to the patient through a tube. The patient breaths in the gas and stays under anesthesia.
There is a collection system that collects CO2 and unused anesthetic gasses.
Disclaimer: This video does not replace veterinary care. Always go see your veterinarian if your pet is sick. This video is only for education and entertainment purposes.

@@DanTheVeterinarian that’s a great thank you! Have you guys been swamped since covid? My vets office actually closed for a long time and when they came back they stopped working weekends and only work 8:00 or 8:30am-5:00pm and they don’t work on call after hours anymore either. If I have an emergency I have to drive 1 1/2-2 hrs to the nearest clinic that’s open and for the horses 4-5hrs drive. I thought my vets office would be back to working normal hours by now. They also aren’t taking on any new clients. It’s really hard to find a vet that’s taking on new clients so I consider myself lucky that I have a vet. It’s hard to be a breeder since covid. A c-section coat $600 before covid and now it cost $2500 if it’s during office hours and after hours it’s 1 1/2-2 hrs drive and $8000-$10000. Depending on litter size and if they survive I’d be lucky to break even and that’s not including the cost to raise the litter. Wow I’m sorry that’s a rant if I’ve ever seen one lol

Hey Beth! Yeah, the hospital has been busy. We added another veterinarian to help with the increase demand.

I like that machine!!! I have never seen one. The last time that I worked for a Veterinarian he administered meds Intravenously. The next time that I witnessed anesthesia being administered it was with gas only.
Unfortunately, there was alot of loss using gas only.
If you make more videos in the area of Anesthesia, I would love to learn how they say "a reversal" is administered when its time for dogs and pups to wake up. I wonder is the "reversal" is only decreasing the number thus bring them out of it???
    Thank you!!!
