    I have used less or no hydration as a strategy . I have gone a couple hours without a drink on a ride . I do consume a finger of powdered Himalayan salt and pepper before the ride . It stimulates the mouth to reduce dry mouth . I have reached a point a hour ride I have no desire to have a drink . So yes you can train for it and the body will adapt .

    I typically ride light, just knee pads, a full face and a t-shirt. I pretty much always wear my full face though. They're so light and well ventilated nowadays, and after a few minutes I forget I'm wearing it ... I could deal with a broken collarbone, but not messing with my teeth or jaw.

    On trails and small jumps like that if you push into the Jump instead of pulling you will find Jumping much easier and better. I cant pull up on jumps and feel safe doing it, but pushing into them and preloading the fork and let it do the work, the safety level is far higher.

    Everyone seems to think that Lithium batteries are a new thing and that they will get better. Lithium batteries have been commercially available for 30+ yrs. Increasing their energy density is a challenge as it also increases the chance of internal short circuits and thermal runaway. I'm not so optimistic when it comes to more range and less weight.

    Brian I heard you mention that when you pull on the jump it keeps your wheel in the air. It sounds like you know this isn't right, but I bet it is also why you are so uncomfortable jumping. When I "pull" to try to do a jump I find that it always gets squirrely. Working on your pump and pop might make jumps feel a lot more stable and comfortable. Keep riding. Have fun

    My concern with ebikes is innovation and how fast the technology is advancing. We have to draw the line somewhere and motors are it for me. Our local trails have seen a huge influx of Sur Ron type bikes with throttles that do 40mph. As ebike technology continues to improve it will be only a matter of time before you have a 50lbs ebike that looks just like a class 1 or 2 ebike but with the capability one of those Sur Rons. Current ebikers who have become accustomed to assistance will justify it like "with this new bike, I don't have to pedal at all." At the most recent Eurobike convention it seemed all innovation was geared towards ebikes and some of these new ones have crazy power outputs and battery life. There is a ton of money to be made and a ton of innovation still available to manufacturers here so I feel its inevitable. Those who argue with me and say they wouldn't want a throttled ebike are the same people who said they didn't want an assisted ebike 5 years ago. I see a future where you have people without ebikes complaining about ebikes, ebikers complaining about throttled ebikes, and every other trail user complaining about all of us lol.

    • @MrAffenMaster
      @MrAffenMaster Рік тому +1

      I have an e-bike throttled at 15.5 mph or 25 kph and it's great. I really don't understand what people would want to do with more than that...

    • @mooseindahouse336
      @mooseindahouse336 Рік тому

      @@MrAffenMaster The reason I see a lot for ebikes in general is, "I have limited time so it helps me get the most out of it" so I'd imagine it would be something similar to that. With higher speeds comes more laps etc.

    • @bkxc
      @bkxc  Рік тому +1

      Man, you really do have a point! Technically they always say "Class 1 Ebikes only", and there are some distinctions there. BUT, that won't stop more and more use of the random throttle bikes until something comes to a head.

      It’s always a slippery slope with people and technology. It’ll be wattage creep as the different brands compete for customers, then people will figure out how to modify them aftermarket for even more power and pretty soon they’ll be able to spin the tire on flat ground at which point the trails will be roached and we’ll be banned.

    I'm not superstitious in any way except for one, talking about the safety gear I'm not wearing while I'm riding. I have said that exact same argument about ebikes though, totally agree it just makes you an olympic xc climber. It's about the output, which is the same as incredibly strong legs, not even close to the output of something with a throttle.

    E-Bikes. Part of the fun of mountain biking is the "can I do it" aspect, especially when it comes to technical climbing. E-bikes take that aspect of the sport away. I mean, if you're going to ride an E-bike why not just go get yourself a CRF450?

  • @JClark2600
    @JClark2600 Рік тому

    I think the whole trial rating system 'Are you an Expert?' and your commentary on the topic is also misleading. In BMX racing you're an Expert after so many # of wins. In MTB trial rating, whats an expert? I think the system should list at the top things like; huck-to-flat 6+ ft, or gap doubles jumps line, or 60% grade with sustained speed in excess of 20MPH... I've won countless BMX races and the UCI would consider me an Expert but on an MTB I'd be borderline advanced inter or new expert. I'd say if you feel like you can handle anything then go for it. If you're a Joey then follow the signage.
