@@BugsRCool-ot5jz this song reflects how much she cares about Rapunzel , I think adding this song was a good idea, because it is preparation for children will listen and stay with me. Also, this is a duet with Rapunzel, and Rapunzel is mostly a speaking role other than the few “Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahs” she does
The song was added into the original london show which opened well after the original Broadway show (which was the original and premiere production). It is unknown why Sondheim added it but i actually like it cause it gives an added context to the witch and Rapunzel
The most underrated Into The Woods song! I’m sad that not many people know about this song because I love it so much even though I only found out this song existed in September!
+Georgia Morgan I feel you!! My town's theatre company is doing Into The Woods and the only role I'm old/young enough to audition for is Rapunzel and I'm so glad this song exists because in the 2014 movie she did next to nothing.
I'm also playing Rapunzel in my high school's production in the fall. (BTW SOOOOOO EXCITED) I actually sing the high notes well. Funny thing is... I'm an alto XD
Ah Children are a blessing Ah If you know where they are Ah Nothing's so distressing, though As when they keep you guessing So be sure you don't leave any doors ajar Make a little world Our little world Our little world Is big enough for me Perfect Our little world Our little world Is all it needs to be Perfect Brushing my hair Combing my hair Only my mother And me and my hair Our little world Our little world Is perfect If she just didn't drool Ah Look at her complexion Still untouched by the sun Children need protection Just the way they need affection Or they wonder and they wander And they run from your little world Our little world Our little world Is all I have to see Perfect Our little world Our little world Is everything a world ought to be Perfect Perfect Washing my hair Tending her hair Drying my hair Stroking her hair Unraveling my hair Looking at her hair Winding and binding And minding my hair Something we can share Hair Our little world is perfect Or at least so she claims Nothing to change her If she only would cut her nails Each day like the other Didn't have those pointy teeth Nothing to divert her To disconcert her Tiny eyes Nothing that can possibly hurt her Otherwise Our little world is perfect And world enough for me Our little world Growing my hair Braiding her hair What do I care What they're doing out there? If what was growing Was only her hair And not her That I'd prefer Nevertheless Our little world Our little world Our little world Is perfect
Everyone saying this is way too high should listen to the 2002 Broadway version and be glad they don’t have to sing that rapunzel hair, it’s an octave higher in many parts! Personally prefer that version tho
I'm a witch in a high school performance and this song is SO HIGH! (I'm a very low alto, haha...) Every version I can find is a lot lower than my sheet music seems to indicate, I can't tell if it's just down the octave or if it's a different group of notes altogether? I'm bouncing between Ds and E sharps like it's supposed to be easy.
Lovely to hear that. I was, in a small way connected to the Original London Cast, and it's always great to hear successes piling up for what was the nicest and happiest of casts.
I love the idea of giving Rapunzel a song, but in all honesty, I don't think this song fits in the narrative or in the style at all. I really don't like it. :/
@@Moon-Jelly yeah I think my biggest thing is that outside of her archetype, she has developed no identity because she's been locked up her whole life. It makes sense also musically to give her no musical identity, whereas characters like the witch and little red have very distinct musical themes.
It took me some getting used to! I like that the ONLY identity they gave her is that she wants to leave her tower. It makes more sense in newer versions of the script with her line “Did you think I’d stay in that tower forever?”. Idk, but it actually gives her a reason to choose the prince. Because she wouldn’t be “Happy as [they] once were” if she chose the witch, because she wasn’t happy at all.
When you want to expand both the roles of the Witch and Rapunzel in a production of Into the Woods, this song's perfect
beo the witch does not need an expansion she has 3 solos if you count stay with me

@@aristotlemodel What I was saying is that the WITCH doesn't need an extension. I played Rapunzel she def needed one
actually, even in the original script, it is an optional song. im lucky and our director has decided to do this song :)

It'll give the role of Rapunzel, some more stage time though

I'm the Witch in an out of school performance and I hadn't even known this song had existed

Poodlesocks_Rock hi five, sister.

Poodlesocks_Rock omg finally! Someone else who’s an alto Rapunzel!! Ik I’m three years late 😂 but I’m nearly there!
When your a second alto and you repunzel.... I I cry

Ah
Children are a blessing
Ah
If you know where they are
Ah
Nothing's so distressing, though
As when they keep you guessing
So be sure you don't leave any doors ajar
Make a little world
Our little world
Our little world
Is big enough for me
Perfect
Our little world
Our little world
Is all it needs to be
Perfect
Brushing my hair
Combing my hair
Only my mother
And me and my hair
Our little world
Our little world
Is perfect
If she just didn't drool
Ah
Look at her complexion
Still untouched by the sun
Children need protection
Just the way they need affection
Or they wonder and they wander
And they run from your little world
Our little world
Our little world
Is all I have to see
Perfect
Our little world
Our little world
Is everything a world ought to be
Perfect
Perfect
Washing my hair
Tending her hair
Drying my hair
Stroking her hair
Unraveling my hair
Looking at her hair
Winding and binding
And minding my hair
Something we can share
Hair
Our little world is perfect
Or at least so she claims
Nothing to change her
If she only would cut her nails
Each day like the other
Didn't have those pointy teeth
Nothing to divert her
To disconcert her
Tiny eyes
Nothing that can possibly hurt her
Otherwise
Our little world is perfect
And world enough for me
Our little world
Growing my hair
Braiding her hair
What do I care
What they're doing out there?
If what was growing
Was only her hair
And not her
That I'd prefer
Nevertheless
Our little world
Our little world
Our little world
Is perfect

It makes sense tho she sings all show with her "ahhhahh" etc. And it gives her character arc
