  • This video introduces R Sound Chaining with speech-language pathologist, Meredith Avren.
This video describes the process of chaining in simple terms, with clear visuals and examples. SLPs can watch this video during therapy sessions with students and work through the example chains together.
The workbook shown in this video has over 300 chains to use during speech therapy sessions and can be downloaded here:

Another great workbook for targeting the /r/ sound is I Can Say the R Sound. It can be downloaded here:

Speech motor chaining takes the principles of motor learning into consideration and can help with generalization of the R sound (Preston, Leece, Storto, 2019). You start at the syllable level and work through monosyllabic, multisyllabic, phrase and sentence level practice.
Disclaimer: This video is not a substitute for speech therapy. It's simply a video sharing one way I have treated R sound errors. Parents are encouraged to seek out an SLP if there are concerns about speech-language development. SLPs are encouraged to read the research associated with this technique, referenced above.
