The war between the Roman and Persian Empires was a monumental conflict during the 7th century. Initially, the Persians, under King Khosrow II, achieved significant victories, capturing Jerusalem in 614 CE and continuing their advance into Roman territories. The Romans, led by Emperor Heraclius, were on the brink of collapse.

Against all odds, the Romans launched a successful counter-offensive. By 627 CE, they managed to reclaim lost territories and eventually brought the war to a favorable conclusion with the decisive Battle of Nineveh. This remarkable turnaround was seen as a fulfillment of the Quranic prophecy, bolstering the faith of early Muslims.
