What we are witnessing now(make in India) should have been possible if Congress was in power?
I don't think so becoz congress was in power for nearly six decade and didn't do anything and one of major kickbacks in defense deals were also from congress. Iam not saying that congress is only party which has corruption and all, others also do that but if they wanted they would have already done it in there regime of 6 decade. Make in india start after congress looses the power and this is one of the reason why india is lagging behind ofcourse they are not the only one to be blame but 6 decade of time is a lot and we would have complete many project like tejas which was proposed in 90s, and today congress is not not suitable to be in power
More than what is right now most of the indiginous programs which you see today are all initiated during Congress regime the economic condition which we had after the independence didn't allowed us to spend in r&d but we saw rapid increase in it also bjp on the other hand is continuously reducing the budget for r&d while giving slogans such as atmanirbhar bharat

2030 scenario with latest fighter jet
Tejas mk1a (include initial FOC and ioc) - 11 squadron
Rafale - 2 squadron
Su 30mki - 14 squadron
Total - 27 squadron
Total requirement - 42 squadron
Balance (42-27) = 15 squadron
10 for mk2 & 5 for amca

Considering a lot is still debt driven it would be hard to achieve we have to first make other institutions like academia and research along with industries and power strong in order to have a thriving self sufficient defence industry.

The defence budget isn't that big issue here. And military isn't a only thing that can make india a developed nation, instead of increasing defence budget percentage on GDP ind. should increase r&d, infrastructure and education budget it will be more beneficial for ind. in long term. When India was spending 3-4% on defence in past china was spending 1.5% on average on defence and rest on infrastructure and r&d and see the economic difference now.
@@kathibaba7665 exactly we cannot just increase budget and be done it's not a money throwing problem. Yes funds are needed but in connected industries in manufacturing in metallurgy in aviation tech etc etc. we need to make the business environment more friendly to defence start ups and the damage done to the Indian independent defence industry has occurred for decades and cannot be reversed in a single one. We need consistent indigenous upgrades and tech development like launch a product with say 70% Indian developed tech and then gradually increase the hard parts with increased speed of replacement with Indian tech.

Since MRFA was not mentioned as future, here is my guess work with chronology on basis of news that RKS Bhadauria joined BJP in Mar 2024 (he maybe was influential for Rafale deal with 36+36 clause)
1. Jun 2024 - RKS becomes Minister of State Defense
2. Sep 2024 - VK Chaudhary retires (he mostly advocated for 114 MRFA)
3. Oct 2024 - 36 IAF +26 Navy Rafale contract declaration with production line to India
4. No MRFA

The Tejas mk2 should have been a twin-engine fighter. We don't have any fighters planned in that category (F15 or Rafale category) unless MRFA goes ahead,
So we can expect :-
1)220 Tejas mk1 and mk1a (by 2030)
2) Approx 200+ Tejas mk2 (by 2035-37)
3) Approx 3-4 squadrons of AMCA mk1 (by 2035-37)
4) Approx 3-4 or more squadrons of AMCA mk2 (by 2038-40)
With 270 Sukhoi and Super Sukhoi as well as 36 Rafael.
More likely India will have 42 or more squadrons by end of 2040.
By that china will have 200 squadron of j20

China makes hundreds of fighter jets annually and constantly replaces the old units.

Yea, but the main adversary of China is US.
Current Production rate of China is around 120-130 aircraft per year (j20, j16, j10C)....with that production rate they will be able to maintain an air force of around 3000-3500 aircraft in next 25 years.
(Still less than current inventory of US )
The current Production rate of US airforce is 110 aircraft per year including 75 F35.
That means US still has an edge.
Production rate of Chinese airforce is still not as phenomenal as people' think and they still can't match US.
India has long way to go but certainly after 25 years ,our production rate will be huge given that Defence budgets would be 300-500 billion dollars.

Whole world knows the value of nuclear weapons in a country. The level of protection a nuclear country has is always greater than non nuclear country except maybe pakistan and Israel because pakistan military is not that much capable apart from nuclear weapons and because of their own created and supported terrorists groups and Israel because it is surrounded by majority of the countries that either hate them or don't care about them.

Rate of progress in terms of attaining self sufficiency is not satisfactory so far, on the whole and it leaves much that is desirable. Fighter jets need powerful engines that are of the cutting-edge excellence, modern and sophisticated. We don't see any indigenous engine coming off in near future. A very depressing scenario. How can we talk of Gen 5, Gen 6 etc. while we can't produce a single capable engine ?
Mrfa is dead project instead of concentrating on mrfa we must buy 3 or 4 squardons of rafale and 6 to 8 squardons of tejas mk2 depending upon trails and concentrate more on amca fighter jets 300 to 350 and start a development of sixth generation fighter jet for the replacement of 4th generation fighter jet after 2050 or 2055
