In this video, we explore why trams might not be the best fit for India's urban transportation needs. The high initial investment and ongoing maintenance costs, coupled with India's already congested roads and space constraints, make trams a challenging option. Integrating tram systems into the existing unplanned urban infrastructure, along with the complexities of relocating underground utilities, adds to the hurdles. Economically, alternatives like buses, especially electric ones, are more cost-effective and flexible. The environmental impact of constructing tram systems, along with their fixed routes and potential for significant disruption during maintenance, further complicates their feasibility. Additionally, Indian commuters' preference for diverse and flexible transport modes, combined with the need for disciplined road behavior, makes trams a less suitable choice. Instead, expanding bus networks, investing in metro systems, and improving infrastructure for non-motorized transport may better address India's urban transportation challenges.

Trams are best in Mountain places where population and traffic is already low
Yes where roads are very less.

And not plains roads also @@divyanshameta9516
Elevated monorail
Light metro or trolley bus better than Tram
As an Indian currently living in Europe, no in big cities trams doesn't makes sense as our cities are now extremely crowded and completely unplanned.
True when the roads are invaded by rikshas
Our government should hire european urban planners for city planning
@@mayurk8697 its of no use the train already left the platform, because of crony capitalism and the municipal corporations turning blind eye approved endless projects without any plans in mind, so its all mess and if they want to fix, either they have to do a time travel or an total reset in form of some apocalypse :D
@@mayurk8697 As an Indian urban planner, I am so disgusting by Indians like you who are so obsessed with westerners that you think only they know how to do things. Shame on you
Are all cities in India equally crowded? India is a very big countries with hundreds of cities with varying population climate terrain and density.
Trams work really good with civilized citizens with good civic sense in roads . That why it's not gonna work in India.
Completely nonsensical. Trams will take vehicles off the road at low cost and reduce accidents. This helps "less civilized" whatever that means to save more lives.
You said correct
Trams are the best medium to reach metro stations from homes if the city is planned .
Trams that run on separate tracks can be successful and useful for cities that don't have that much population
kuch bhi.. hr jgah metro nhi bna skte… Jaipur Metro ka example sabke samne hai.. Jha bus ja skti hai wha tram bhi ja skti hai… Tram ka option rhega logo ke pas hoga to log auto aur bus ke upr dependable nhi rhenge.. Zyada public transport use krenge.. Moreover Tram metro ka end point connectivity bda skta hai… koi bhi europe ki country ka example dekh skte hai…
@@mir_shader You hit the nail with that statement.
Trams are not outdated. A lot of thought has to go in installing them. To begin with, the successful BRT routes can be changed over to tramways. Trams are more energy efficient than busses.
Brts are also the most lazily implemented transit india . Which is why they will always fail.
Why such abrupt cut in video i guess some issue while uploading please fix it
Yes. This is his 3rd or 4th video where I'm seeing this abrupt cut.
trolley bus highway pe chala sakte hai ek city se dusre city ko connect karne ke liye
We already have that in India. Usey train bolte hain. Jyaada tez bhi chalti hai aur zyaada log bhi le jaa sakti hai.😅
I would say that the West Bengal government should take some initiatives to upgrade the tram lines in those routes where metros are not running in Kolkata.
For example,
1. MG Road to Bidhannagar Road Tram via Sealdah and Kankurgachi
2. Shyambazar to Esplanade via College Street Crossing and Wellington
3. Gariahat to Esplanade via Park Circus and Wellington
4. Ballygunge to Taliganj via Gariahat More and Rasbihari.
Besides, there is a heritage route through Maidan.
Each of these tram lines in Kolkata can be upgraded much cheaper than the metro.
Apart from this, the government should also take the initiative to introduce electric buses in place of the outdated buses in Kolkata's bus network.
Buses and all types of private vehicles should not be driven on every tram route. Increasing the frequency of trams on tram routes. Separate routes for buses.
Kolkata has the lowest road to land ratio among all big big cities in India, so practically it's impossible
@@abhisekdas435 Yes yes yes . That point was gone out of my mind . Yes road to land ratio is very low in Kolkata .
All the routes suited for metro dude
And u want to construct dedicated tracks of tram in college street

Abhi se tier 2 city me network hoga to log use karne ki aadat me dalenge, mere ko delhi metro use karne ki aadat, but jab banagalore me rehta hu to itna annoying lagta h ki metro itni choti kyu, ab ban rahi h par usme time lagega
already itna bada network hona chaiye tha blr me par nahi h tabhi roads me itna traffic h blr me
Video toh halfway hi khatam ho gayi
Haa 🫠
Best thing about trams is that the other vehicles and people can feel more safe compared to buses which are sometimes dangerous and can take unexpected turns.
Its not the trams that are bad its that we lack discipline. Also we want all of everything. We must prioritize transport for a particular purpose. Wide roads for expressway but for dense neighborhood trams/ ug metros. Trams will work well for tier 2 cities provided we ha e discipline
Navi Mumbai Metro is now being planned for Metro Neo (aka Trollybuses/Trams). Hopefully CIDCO will realize their mistake.
Biggest mistake of Navi mumbai was not building entire city around cycle, busses, Trams and metro in that order.
You had the opportunity to make a city from scratch, still fucked up.
If not trams, why don't we have trolley buses? First we need good footpath then we'll see
Atleast implement trams in newer developments (they can be used as form of TOD)
Why people still stuck at trams. We can build own system based on our needs.
Trams is just a type of train (e.g metro and broadguage)
I love trams
If population was the reason for trams not succeeding then china would not have any trams at all. I believe the story does not end here.
Well chineese behaves well and there leaders plans well. Sometimes they fail but does far better job than Indians.
Chineese cities are planned
First they build roads, sewage, water, and electricity. And then they will allow building to build. In india its all ulta
Crude oil crisis kya hai ?
Nashik neo metro ka kya hua?

Elevated tracks for the trams. Problem solved
I think you already covered this topic in past.
Trams must be brought back in colonial part of Mumbai city it will add up to the aesthetics
No body cares about aesthetics
worst opinion ever !
@@MAHIPALKUMAR-b9r thats the problem if we don't pay attention to aesthetics then people will stereotype india as slum nation
@@marshallthedalmatian2439 That can be fixed by landscaping, proper drainage, garbage disposal, and underground wiring. Trams will be seen as hurdles in already congested South Mumbai.
We need solution not more problems
Long-distance bus routes, typically more than 7-8 kms can be replaced by metros and MRTS systems, but until & unless Town Planning isn't rigorously enforced.
I have some hopes in NAINA, but rest all urban clusters today, except a few descent Metropolitains are i n their present state- a consequence of over-saturated, over-populated, total-negligence of City Admins; tier-3 towns completely lacadaisical of urban planning and fundamental civic amenities like piped water, pipe-gas, sewage systems, electricity grids, Hospitals, Schools, Libraries, Courts, Town Halls.
Unless you have these fundamental civic amenities sorted, only then can you think about laying tramways and railways. In India, it is the other way round. Urban clusters grow centred about transportation mediums available.

Excuse and excuses in your video. Look at china
India is a big country , we want everything ...
The world is not binary.
Trams are not bad if you separate it from road. That is called light metro but the problem is that cities don't have space. And underground construction is hard.
Best is monorail if it is cheaper than metro

Trams should be replaced as Metrolite in Kolkata city.
PHEV Bus or electric ⚡ Bus is actual solution for India with dedicated Bus lane🕉️🕉️🕉️
Why so religious for no reason plus trolleybuses are even better
Battery buses suck
@channelq819 bro are you really giving most dumb arguments? First of all trolleybus wires are cheap as sht and they don't spoil the aesthetics and we already have messy wires going through not to mention that some people don't care about aesthetics. It isn't really time consuming to make some wires and poles. 99% of times buses go on same routes so why not install cheap wires overhead? We really need dedicated bus routes even for diesel buses because they get stuck in traffic. Electric buses are bad because battery fires are VERY common and hard to put and batteries require lithium which is very toxic and mining lithium release some particles in air. Lithium particles are way worse than inhaling CO2.
@channelq819 battery fires also release very toxic particles in air aswell so yeah just because they're popular doesn't mean that it is better.
@channelq819 did i insult you? Dumass kid you learn respecting others first. You are literally proving your ignorance by cringey emojis. You didnt read other arguments because you are too much blinded by your opinion. Wires are cheaper and can be integrated into existing infrastructure.
Brother you make nice and informative videos but voice is not so clear in many videos. Please do some update.
An electric/hydrogen bus would be better than trams in every single way.
Surprisely city like Nashik has good GDP ,high population and wide spread area justify for track base metro but till a date no any movement here
This is a repeated video
We need more metro train.
Bhai video beech mei end ho gaya 😢😢
Mr. Bhavsar I understand your reasons for not being in favour of trams. You have valid points too. However I feel it is wrong to say a complete No to trams. May be best said the time is not right for trams. Once India finds the best use case for say trolley bus trams it shall receive social acceptance and adoption. We need to have an open mind 😊
why trams when metro exists ?
It's for smaller cities and towns.
Yes true for small Towns @@Dr.Kraig_Ren
trams are not a replacement for metro period. Think of them as walking accelerators. They are more convenient then metros for everyone to travel shorted distances.
Trams are better if you are travelling 1-2 kms where metro or any other transport doesn't go (except buses and roads ofc)
Buses have habit of getting stuck in traffic so dedicated tram lines (alongside trolleybus lanes) would be great
Half video
Bhai khud ke video phir khol ke dekhta nahi kya pura upload hua hai bhi ya nahi
Har bar bich me video band😂
Awaz kam hai
What about trolleybuses?
If trams can't be implemented then trolley busses can't also be implemented
Most modern trams replace congested bus routes e.g. Paris, thats where they have been most successful.
People and the government dont understand that the modern european tram isnt a substitute for a metro, its an accessory, working along metro systems to make more local, shorter trips easier, replace congested bus routes and serve corridors with lesser density and predicted ridership compared to metros. The tram should be adopted in our big cities instead of 2nd and 3rd tier to show how they can be used properly
The modern european tramway is the model used to build trans all around the world, including china, readup about it
This doesnt include american light rail, now that is what our government wants to build and they suck and they shouldn’t ever build light rail unless they want to build stuff in tier 4 cities
Mere city Ropeway(cable car) banane ka proposal rakha hai.
And my city will be the 2nd in India to use cable car as public transport.
Please disscus it is feasible or not ?
Cable car is never a good public transport, especially for mid to high density areas. It cannot cater to demand at all. Only build it at specialised tourist destinations that's it
