That is what I love about Nirvana. They are equal parts SY and Melvins, Vaselines, Germs, Pixies, Black Flag, Missions Of Burma, Daniel Johnston, Lead Belly, sex pistols, and a whole ton of other bands. They did such a great job of taking all these bands and turning them into one incredible experience. Kurt, Krist, and Dave did something that will sadly never be replicated, if the Foo Fighters latest release is any sign.
Yeahh ... we love Sonic Youth they have a great Sound...!!! If you like some german grunge you should hear this: Drunken Hippies - Sad things Peace.Love.Grunge
@grzesieksz well 3 years ago is saw sonic youth dinosaur jr smashing pumpkins( even though they sucked that night) iggy pop and chris cornell at the same festival. oh an also the gutter twins (mark lennagan) best festival ever!
Absolutely not - who chooses what year they're born? I envy you cos you've got even more music to choose from then those of us did who were around when Sonic Youth was current. However, there is something a bit special about being there with these guys as a soundtrack to life at the same time as it was released and in the then alternative charts. Fans of the time helped to make them 'happen' by recognising their talent during their most creative periods. Kid, without you good music would die.
okay so im only 15, i've liked the band for about two years, i own alot of their albums and love them more than any band bar Radiohead. am i less of a fan than you because i came late?
I started with Daydream Nation. Not the best way to start. If you like stuff like Nirvana or even Dinosaur Jr. for that matter, Dirty is what you should start with. Then Go Deeper. Just my 2 cents.
I'm seeing them next week (Pixies) if this damn virus don't mess up travel plans (?!) Love your Jazzmaster, I got a Squier the J Mascis signature model, white & gold anodised scratchplate. I also got something called a Squier Jag-stang (closest I could afford at the time!)
lots of comments by kids here. the pixis top of the food chain??? just for those, who like pop more than complex sound and meaning. pixis are nice. the sonics are unreached. if you play yourself an instrument, you know, what i mean.
Really? Smashing Pumpkins sucks really bad, and solo Chris Cornell is not far behind. Dinosaur Jr has some ok material but I wouldn't go crazy for them. I would have seen Iggy and Sonic Youth and gotten the hell out of there.
I love all these bands so much. I'm lucky to have seen a few of them in my life
best version of this song
Goo is just great...just simply awesome.

best festival ever!
Yes they did, and it was FUCKING AMAZING.
doesn't get any better than these three bands
Yes.
@Alienacionglobal Goo. Goo is what got me into SY in the first place. Then Daydream, and then I got into everything else.
Hard to compare... as Sonic Youth was more Noise Alternative and Nirvana was Grunge.
You hit the nail on the head.
Yeah, check out the movie 1991: The Year Punk Broke. Nirvana actually blew up in the States while they were overseas.
I would love the pretty fucking dirty tour too...
Mudhoney, Pavement, SY.
@89Bleachyourworks es de la pelicula the year punk broke
classic old school mtv rock
ooh sonido maravilloso :3
@Alienacionglobal goo, dirty and rather ripped are good too
@Alienacionglobal more experimnteal or more easy-to-listen?
people... why bothering? let's listen to both SONIC YOUTH and NIRVANA, blissfully!
Daydream Nation, EVOL, and Sister are the best.
2 years ago at pukkelpop

@Alienacionglobal Maybe Ditrty ;D

if the pixies were on that tour too I would still be building a time machine.

@Alienacionglobal well, i started with goo... prefer the style of that album and Dirty.
music trascends time-space stuff....there are posers though, but who really knows who isn´t
Best band? Thats like asking what the best color is, or best food.
Me? I like pizza AND purple.
lots of comments by kids here. the pixis top of the food chain??? just for those, who like pop more than complex sound and meaning.
pixis are nice. the sonics are unreached.
if you play yourself an instrument, you know, what i mean.
high five on the color
my history teacher taught Thurston Moore
if you like this maybe youl like also Abiotic - Wanted
Thurston, it's been well over 30 years, lose the mop top. Thank you.
Kim looks delicious here :9
technically you're right....but NIRVANA is my fave band....personal reasons I guess. But SY IS BETTER! but...yeh. I love 'em both.
Why?
NOOOO!!!
I don't get it
Easily.
I don't think he asked your opinion >.>
Thumbs up if Norman Reedus sent you here.
NO!
BUT!
If you pay attention, Kurt Cobain respected and was highly influenced by Sonic Youth...
Bleach fullbring
But he couldn't play guitar for a crap. But I must admit it's entertaining seeing video of Nirvana trashing a stage.
