  • This is video and photos of a 2010 Ranger Tug R-25 when we went to get our new boat orientation at the dealers, Wefings Marine. The photos are of the boat both in and out of the water and the video shows the boat being loaded on the trailer after the sea trial.

Having had many boats over the years from pontoons to a 40' express cruiser, this is the easiest boat to handle that we've ever had. Very economical to run with diesel power and superb close quarters handling with bow AND stern thrusters, this is the perfect boat for a couple to travel in. We trailer it with a Ford F250 diesel pickup and figure the boat, gear, and trailer to weigh out at about 10,000 lbs max. Not a problem for our 3/4 ton truck.

OK. I've had a number of boats. Some larger, some smaller. This boat is seaworthy and perfect for a couple to use the way we do. Easy to operate with thrusters, lots of things to make it safe, like a radar reflecter in the faux stack. Fully and I do mean fully equipped. Very versatile in that we can cruise to the North Channel at 70 mph and launch there, float in 26 inches of water, remain comfortable in the enclosed helm with heat or air conditioning as needed, etc. etc. Great value!

Love this boat for the same reasons you said you both like it so much. well equipped, solid and even lost cost on fuel

Nothing was damaged. He braked hard to slide the boat forward on the trailer (a little harder than he had to)... Thanks for the comment. We really like this boat. Very easy to dock and launch and retrieve.

These "top heavy toys" have cruised all over the Intracoastal Waterway, the Inside Passage to Alaska, and everything in between; they've even had a Ranger Tugs rendezvous in the Bahamas. Ever hear of Chip Hanauer? After leaving the world of hydroplane racing do you know what kind of boat he got for "destination cruising"? A Ranger Tugs R-27. My brother, a retired Coast Guard chief petty officer who's owned several boats in addition to his years at sea on cutters, is getting a new boat this month: a Ranger Tugs R-29. So, what's your vast experience that makes you know more about these "top heavy toys" than all of them?

Do you have any opinions about the boat? How easy does it maneuver? How easy does it trailer? I recently saw one in Wrightsville Beach, NC, and really liked it.
    Cheers!

I'd put a command bridge up top and get rid of the bloody music.

Not so sure about the 'fake funnel' and the brass portholes, think id grab a real tugboat instead, which maybe you could for the price of that top heavy toy.
