John, I was on the phone with Brother for 50 minutes the other day, and the last advice I got was to call Google. So glad to see your video. My printer was already wirelessly set up, but printed pages were awful. Changed the IP address and protocol, and voila, that corrected the issue! THANK YOU!

Thank you John - bit late to the party but I have followed your clear instructions and printed off and connected my printer successfully. I belong to an on-line sewing group and about four times a month our tutor sends us a very simple line drawing (usually a flower or leaf) which we have to print off and trace onto material. The drawings come surrounded by a circle which has to be lined up to the edges of landscape paper. The actual drawings range between 3 to 8 inches in height. We are told that by lining up the circle correctly each drawing will print off at the correct height. I seem to be the only member of the group who just can’t do this. Mostly the drawings turn out roughly 5” tall. Please can you advise me. I live alone and am housebound at the moment and finding this so frustrating. I am not very tech savvy and my math even worse! Thank you.
Could not get this to work for my HP LaserJet P1102w printer. I know it is not supported but the real kicker is it works on my Google Pixie 6, all my family's iPhone 13's and all 3 of my chromebooks. Have tried everything gone thru steps in video and my printer shows under print setting but when click on SAVE, says the HP3830 is no longer available. I tried to set up printer manually but the IP address that matches the HP printer configuration printout does not work. cannot connect. Help
Your printer probably was using Google Cloud Print Which has been discontinued by Google. The first thing I would do is remove the printer from your Chromebook. Next, try a fresh install. Make sure you're using the IP address not the DNS or subnet address. Good luck!
That process will vary based on your printer. Both of my Wi-Fi printers have a small LCD screen which allows me to view and connect with the network without using a computer.
read that Canon no longer supports my older Chrombook to print wireless, but can I print by hooking directly to the printer with a cord? My model of my printer is not listed in the list of available printers at all, even if I type it in.
I don't know for sure, but it's always worth a try! I would try connecting your printer wirelessly. Enter the IP address and use the IPP protocol. This will bypass the need to pick a model number. If that doesn't work, plug it into your Chromebook and see what happens!
Hi John. My model of Canon printer (PIXMA 2922) from 2017 doesn't have a settings screen to print out the info needed to plug in to settings screen . How can I access that? Thx.
Awesome video but I still can't print after following your steps and the Chromebook and printer on the same network.
Good luck!
@@jrsowash Already tried fresh install still does not work
how do you do the initial connection to your wireless network without a windows computer?
That process will vary based on your printer. Both of my Wi-Fi printers have a small LCD screen which allows me to view and connect with the network without using a computer.
Do you think this will work with the brother wireless label printer?
Probably. I have two brother printers that work well.
When I press save it says that's it is no longer available
sady it does not work. can someone help me. ?? right ip adress, set on http, but still doesnt work :/
read that Canon no longer supports my older Chrombook to print wireless, but can I print by hooking directly to the printer with a cord? My model of my printer is not listed in the list of available printers at all, even if I type it in.
I don't know for sure, but it's always worth a try!
I would try connecting your printer wirelessly. Enter the IP address and use the IPP protocol. This will bypass the need to pick a model number.
If that doesn't work, plug it into your Chromebook and see what happens!
@@jrsowashHow can I connect my Printer to my wifi?
Hi John. My model of Canon printer (PIXMA 2922) from 2017 doesn't have a settings screen to print out the info needed to plug in to settings screen . How can I access that? Thx.
I'm not sure. There must be a way to print out the connection info...I would look on the Canon website.
@@jrsowash Thanks.
Awesome video but I still can't print after following your steps and the Chromebook and printer on the same network. Printer installed fine but when it goes to print, the printer has no response but it says printing on the Chromebook.
I guess my Canon printer is too old. Got to get myself a Brother printer with IPP
Try using HTTPS
Thanks John I tried that too. But at least I got message "Failed - Printer unreachable" with HTTPS.
Thanks for your help. I have concluded my printer is too old for IPP printing.
I have a Canon Pixma MX492 (3 yrs old) Canon says this model only works via Google Cloud Print. The firmware does'nt support directly printing to printer.
@@jkrichton Most manufacturers haven't updated their instructions to reflect the turn down of Cloud Print.
Your printer may not work, but it's still worth a shot!
@@jrsowash Thanks for responding. I tried your method, then called Canon customer Support they told me it wouldn't work.
I didnt get a printer close to mine so it asks for pdd.i dont know where to get that
That's unfortunate. You may need to get a new printer that is supported.
Hi John.My printer was fine until recently( Canon MG2950).Went through your tutorial but get response that no connection to printer.Tried Http/Ipp.When google said that cloud print was ending in December they gave a list of"supported"printers.Mine wasnt on that list,so will i have to buy a new one now that is ?
Sounds like it. Does your printer support Wi-Fi printing?
@@jrsowash Yes John.Connects to wi-fi no problem
Hmm. I'm not sure. I think you're going to have to reach out to Canon tech support.
hey this was super easy. thanks for the helpful video. If I could tip you, I would - but I'll just give ya a thumbs up and a comment. Cheers!
Your appreciation is appreciated. 😀
That worked. Thank you!
Great to hear!
Thanks for this video.👌
Welcome 😊
at 7:45 you talk about how the printers that are already there can be set with one that has a close enough "name", but mine only has two options and neither work. how can i fix that?
thank you
Your printer may not be supported. You can try using IPP instead of your IP address. That will load a generic set of drivers.
Hi, I am not sure what is the closest printer model to canon pixma mx492! I don't see it in the model list
Try using IPP instead of IP address. You won't have to pick a model.
@@jrsowash So i entered the ip address chosing ipp for the protocol when i want to print the computer showing "printing" yet nothing comes out from the printer!
Can't print to my Canon Pixma MX472. It's detected but it won't configure because it doesn't come up as one of the choices. In fact, there are no Pixma printers on the list at all. Now what?
it doesn't sound like pixima is supported for Chromebooks
very helpful indeed.
My docs are printing but cutting off right margin on all but the info sheets from my HP DeskJet 3755 series. Has to be my Chromebook but have tried EVERYTHING including reset. HELP?????!!!!!!
Check your print settings. This happened to me today...I had to change the setting to "fit to page" to get it to print correctly.
We get to the "Add" step and it tells us "to check printer's configuration and try again. Everything on our HP6700 seems correct so we are stuck!! Any suggestions
Sounds like you have the wrong IP address.
l want help with my USB printing. On chromebook. It says the printing is complete, but no copy. Why ! Why ! Why
I haven't been able to pin point a specific reason. I usually remove the printer and try installing it again. 🤷♂️
Anyone know if this works with Canon TR4520?
I don't know about that specific model, but I know that Canon printers seem to struggle when printing to Chromebooks.
I tried to delete my printer and add it again, it's telling me my HP Office Jet no longer supports printing from Chromebook?
You need to connect it directly, not through cloud print. The instructions in this video will help.
I have a chromebook can i get any printer?
Probably. I have had success with HP and Brother printers.
I have been using the same HP DeskJet 842C printer since 2000. It still work great after 22 years. I just plug the USB cord of the printer into my $119 Chromebook & print. Simple! I was led to believe I needed a WiFi printer to print with a Chromebook. That's not the case.
I can't find the model of my Brother MFC-J 690DW printer. When I select a similar, I get a error message saying ' unable to add printer. Please check your printers configuration and try again.' your video did not cover what to do if you get this error message.
I would double check to make sure that your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Chromebook.
@@jrsowash Thanks, but it is the same network. I also tried to install that Paper Cuts app but I couldn't understand how to do it. So I guess I will just connect with a USB cable.
I'm going to be on the move, often having no wifi network or cloud. Can you just plug a printer ino the Chrombook's USB?
Yes, that works too... Same process. 👍
@@jrsowash - I 've been trying to connect my Canon printer to my older Chromebook via an A - B cord I obtained from Amazon. Nothing happens. I suspect I'm not plugging it in the right place or I have the wrong cord. I can't understand it. Can you advise me? Thx. There is an additional USB outlet on the front of the printer but in order to use that I'd need a cord with USB on both ends. Suspect they don't make them like that.
I have a Brother HL-2040 laser printer connected to my ASUS C434 chromebook. NO printer detected How do I print. Thanks very my Mr. Sowash. Trying to use add printer but either it is looking for a server or an ip address. This is aUSB only printer.
I do not believe Chromebooks will work with USB only printers. It must have Wi-Fi.
Thanks Mr Sowash. Happily printers are quite affordable. Love your podcasts.
My Chromebook asks me for a print server address when I try to set this up. I tried the one
on that printed out on the Network Config page, but it said it can't detect that one (or the secondary server address I tried).. Help!
Are you using IPP?
You don't need to set up a print server.
Thank you! 😀 I reprinted the network configuration page and guess what? My I.P. address for that printer that I have been using for a year has changed==specifically, the last digit. My internet/wifi provider said today that I.P. addresses never change-what did he know. Because my printer now works with the new I.P. address. I was almost ready to give up.
Great! Glad you got it working!
How can I connect my printer to my wifi?
anyone get this to work with a Canon MX920? Nothing was close in the drop down menu for this printer.
Thank you for making the video.
Glad it was helpful!
life saver thank you so much .Jim Connnelly from bonnie Scotland
❤️🙌
Awesome, it works!
i can't get this to work with hp m2020w series
Try using the IPP protocol.
l could print from my Canon Pixma MX492 until last week. the printer configuration prints out ok but when l go to Chromebook l get "home.local:443" address. l am able to type in correct address but not save it. Canon wants $19.95 for any advice and Acer ( warranty expired) wants $99.95 for tec to look at it
I would try setting it up following the directions in this video...don't try to adjust the printer that is already configured.
@@jrsowash l have tried that over and over, even rebooting router, printer and Chromebook but when l hit printer edit on Chrome instead of the 192.168....... it shows "home.local:443" on the address line . I can change the address but it won't save. So the printer is correct and it is not the internet, so it would make since to me it is Chromebook. Unless Canon took the MX492 off Chromebook in the last week. l don't know if i can show screen shots on this page or not. Thank you for what you do.
