I am Polish and I live whole Balkans. Been in Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovenia and Montenegro. GR8 weather, great food, great wine, great music and GR8 people. As a Romanian, I definitely agree with the borders between us and Bulgaria. When I was at the beach with my friends just at the border with Bulgaria, we went to buy alcohol from them because it was cheaper and better, and we only walked 10 minutes from our hotel in Romania to their shop in Bulgaria..

The joke with the Turkish mythology is from a saga. According to legends, some tribe killed off all Turks leaving one child which they pitied and didn't kill, but amputated his limbs and threw him in a swamp. That child was then cared for by a female wolf and when he turned 12-13 they copulated and that's where all Turkic lineage comes from.
Edit: Apparently the boy copulates with the wolf after it turns into the form of a beautiful lady. The wolf is called Asena and isn't actually a wolf, but a female spirit. Asena is also the Gokturk dynasty's clan name.

From the Balkans: Istanbul is an amazing city, Bulgaria has good beaches , Greek islands are amazing, Croatian islands and the coast too. Belgrade and Zagreb I would visit. The rest really I believe these countries have amazing places and people.

This is the first time I see Hungary as a Balkan country. Even Romania is discussed since the only part of it that is geographically in Balkan is Dobruja. Moldova is sometimes added because it used to be a part of Romania and shares its culture and the same with Slovenia which was a part of Yugoslavia, but otherwise these countries are not in Balkan.

Serbia was first found in 8th century, and existed until mid 15 century, came back to existence in 19th century, cease to exist as Yugoslavia after WW1, and again started to exist in 2006. Rollercoaster of independence

2 fun facts about bulgaria. First our border with Romania is a river and not on land.Second in bulgaria we make the only actual yougurt with a special bacteria and it's way better than the western sugar yougurt our is salty and if you mixe it with water you get a perfect drink.
