Excellent overview! I would only add a point about Paul's incredible visionary visit to Heaven, during which he 'saw' and learned many things, including some he was prohibited from sharing. These insights gave exceptional authority to his writings. I wonder whether one of the things he was prohibited to share might have been about The Millennial Reign age, a major topic in my blog, Life in the Key of J!

Great video. Can you also talk about the one part in corintheans where he talks about "flee from sexual immorality" or "Porjeia" as he sais? I d be curious if that really stands for "any kind of sex before marriage" or if he simply wants us to flee from hoockers.
Your question seems to refer to Chapter 5 in 1 Corinthians. The short answer is that in those times sexual morality was *especially* loose. We're talking prostitution, inc€st, spouse-swapping, s○d○my...and more. Some of this debauchery was almost "State-sponsored" in feasts and festivals. St. Paul rightly pointed out that Christians should have no part in these activities. Christians should not be ruled over by their hormones. That's the short answer.

@@dennisdurkee4049 Matthew 24:5 Jesus tell us many will come in his name and will deceive us. Paul was a Pharisee, the very group of people Jesus constantly rebuked and warned about. Dennis Durkee, google what the road to Damascus looks like, it’s in the desert. Then read Matthew 24:26 and you’ll see that Jesus warns that if someone tells you they saw him in the desert DONT BELIEVE THEM! I’ll follow what the Messiah say and you can follow Paul.

Who said Paul’s letters were considered scripture and why are there 3 different accounts on the road to Damascus?
Acts 26 15:18 “Then I (Paul) asked, ‘Who are you, Lord?’“ ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,’ the Lord replied. ‘Now get up and stand on your feet. I have appeared to you to appoint you as a servant and as a witness of what you have seen and will see of me. I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles. I am sending you to them to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’
I believe that this makes Paul's letters scripture, and his instructions the Lord's instructions. This makes us responsible for obeying them.
Colossians 3:23-24 "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart (from the soul), as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving." I think that this is one of those instructions that is really important to know about, so I included it incase you didn't know about it or something. I might've misunderstood your comment and couldn't tell if you're questions where rhetorical or not, and I don't know what you meant about the accounts on the road to Damascus. Anyway, I was just trying to help.

Paul says numerous times he is "self-appointed". Discernment...those with eyes that see and ears that hear.
Paul wrote 7 of the 13 letters attributed to him.
Maybe you could bring up hie only 5 to 7 letters are actually believed to be written by Paul.
Seeing the video, it is clear that as scholar mention that Paul is the creator of Christian belief based on his intrepretations. No wonder some are against what in Gospel.

What is the difference between the "little flock" and the "Body of Christ"?
Pastor Randy White on UA-cam answers this. Randy’s answer is the “little flock” is that small group of Jews who were also Christians in the first century. That would include all the Apostles, including Paul and Peter & Timothy etc. It would not include gentile Christians in the first century. This distinction is due to Jewish people having the things promised by God, through Abraham as well having salvation by Grace through faith and not of works. Ephesians chap 2. Don’t remember his answer on who the body of Christ is
Interesting comment you made... Paul took it upon himself. Book of Acts Peter was sent by THE SAVIOR to go to the gentiles.
*I think you left out the most important fact that Paul unveiled Salvation by Grace though faith, not works. Something revealed to Paul exclusively in Ephesians chap 2*
How did a new convert like Paul get more revelations than Christ's older apostles? How did he get to write a third of the New Testament over them. Yes he suffered more, but no one is answering my questions.
Why would we assume that Paul received any more revelation than those who lived with Christ in person? That's not a claim Paul makes. If anything, Paul claims to have received revelation that the older apostles deemed harmonious with what they'd received, in that they didn't see any need to add to it (Galatians 2:6-10).
I'm not sure where the second question is coming from. We don't have any evidence that the apostles were attempting to construct a "New Testament" during their lifetime, and so I don't see why we'd assume that 1) every apostle was writing epistles at the clip that Paul seems to have done, or 2) that Paul's representation in the New Testament is any statement as to the comparative quality of his revelation to that received by the other apostles.
We don't know which of the early followers of Jesus were strong writers. So we probably shouldn't assume that everyone in the early church _could_ have produced the the volume and quality of content that is attributed to Paul.

This is a very good summary of the letters of Paul! However, if you wanna go deeper, it is not believed that Paul actually wrote all of those 13 letters because of the simple fact that they vary in message, vocabulary, style and so forth. Some of these letters are actually believed to be written by others but attributed to Paul like Ephesians, Colossians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 & 2 Timothy and Titus.

I ask because this does not sound like Paul confessing to anything. At this point in his letter, Paul has just revealed that his "guile" was being a servant, rather than exacting a fee or return for his services (2 Cor 12:14-16). And then Paul goes on to say that he has been speaking "in the sight of God as those in Christ" (v 19). Furthermore, Paul affirms that "Every matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses" (2 Cor 13:1)--while promising a third visit (i.e., there are plenty of witnesses).
I simply don't see how, in good faith, someone can read the letter of 2 Corinthians and conclude that Paul is confessing to preaching a false gospel.

So... Everything I say is meant to be understood in the context or 'ardour' of Good Faith and Non Divisiveness, and Mutual Respect.

Saul of Tarsus who Christians insist on calling 'Paul' had an IMMENSE influence on the trajectory of Christianity.
Many refer to him as 'The Father of Christianity' and there's some merit to that claim... Even if it's in an 'awkward ironic context'.
Paul was not The 'Pharisee of Pharisees as he ALLEGEDLY referred to himself as. He was not a Pharisee. Not even in a Colloquial Sense.
He wasn't a Devout Jew. He may very well been of Jewish Lineage, but we can ascertain by reading his letters (Generally, we only exaxamine The 7 Authentic Epistles... Hebrews is Universally accepted as forgery, and the other 6 are STILL very much disputed among scholars).
The funny thing about Paul is that most A LOT of 'talking points' Christians espouse in defense of Paul don't come from any of Paul's Letters (Authentic or disputed), they come from Acts. You might not realize how insane the claims in Acts are, but the Book is pure propoganda).

I don't think you understand how EXTREME those two claims are.
They are unequivocally false. Paul didn't simply disagree with Judaic Doctrine... He didn't even understand it.
For example...
Galatians 3:16... In this passage Paul asserts that The Abrahamic Covenenant doesn't mean that Abraham will be Patriarch to a Great Lineage, but rather it's referring to Yashua because it says (In English) 'Seed' and not 'Seeds'.
What Paul didn't understand is that in Hebrew (much like English) doesn't feature 'suffixes' to denote plurality to certain words.
The plural of 'Seed' in this context IS 'SEED'.
You 'spread your 'Seed'... Not 'seeds'. Hebrew is similar to English in that regard.
The same goes for words like 'sheep'. Multiple Sheep are called 'Sheep'... Not 'Sheep's'.
Paul didn't even understand this.
There's other examples of things he says in his Genuine Epistles that demonstrate that he not only was opposed to Judaic Doctrine... He had next to no understanding of it.
In the 1 Century CE, Tarsus (Modern Day Turkey) was NOT a very 'Jew Friendly Place'.
So, it makes sense that he never formally studied Judaism.
As far as 'persecuting Christians'... He never said that. It only says that in Acts and it makes ZERO Sense.
The tiny amount of 'Christians' (so to speak) were not a threat to Jews at all. Pagan Romans however were a huge threat.
As you know, in 135 CE, The Romans managed to kick ALL The Jews out of their Homeland. The land that G-d promised them as per The Abrahamic Covenant.
Why would he walk to Syria to persecute a tiny populace of 'Christians' when their one and only threat At the time were Greco Roman Pagans.

He DEFINITELY was NOT a disciple of Gamaliel. He definitely was not a member of The Sanhedrin.
He was definitely not a Pharisee... Not even in a Colloquial sense (meaning Devout Jew).
He was a guy in Tarsus that, despite his Jewish Bloodline never truly studied The Tanakh and he almost certainly believed Greco-Roman Paganism was accurate.
And he had a psychotic episode one day. Happens to millions of humans every single day. Nothing extraordinary about that.

So you're not a fan. We get it. St. Paul's writing have had significant impact on all of Western Civilization. Maybe you should ask yourself "Why?". Whatever you wish to believe, something *transformational* occurred in his life. It *changed* him, and he believed that power could change individual hearts and eventually the World. He wasn't wrong. It wasn't until recently that it occurred to me just how unbelievably controversial this guy was.
I haven't studied NEARLY ENOUGH to offer you one, comprehensive, decisive opinion.
He, very well MAY have some sort of 'transformative experience' (whatever that means exactly). Mind you I feel compelled to point out that undergoing a 'transformative experience' and intentionally corrupting scripture in order to lend false creedence to his doctrines he wished to promulgate (namely Vicarious Redemption through Yashua) are not 'mutually exclusive'.
My 'heart is as open' as it possibly can be.
I'm very compassionate and sensitive and empathetic.
BUT, when taking a 'scholarly approach', we must render decisions using logic and reason.

It's clear that Paul really 'corrupted' the Tanakh... Namely Hosea to try and substantiate said doctrine.

As for Paul being a "charlatan", the surest sign of his sincerity is that he died for his Faith. Yes, he was a product of his times, so you have to filter out the patriarchal worldview somewhat. But, the power that transformed Paul is still operative to those willing to cooperate with God's grace. You will never "think" or "reason" your way to God. You simply open your heart and embrace a spirit of humility.
It's interesting that you point out that Hebrews might not have been written be Paul but don't mention the fact that the great majority of Pauline scholars thing that Paul only wrote 7 of the remaining 13...

On the contrary, one of the most _inconvenient_ aspects of shooting "a quick overview" is that you can't cover everything. Looking back, I could have handled this topic in a more nuanced way when I shot this video four years ago (e.g., I probably would have said "And thirteen of them _are associated with_ a gentleman named Paul" at 0:29 instead of "were written by"), but ultimately pseudepigraphy is a separate topic, and Pauline pseudepigraphy deserves a video unto itself. =)
Re: Hebrews, this video is about what books people are referring to when they talk about Paul's letters in the New Testament, and though. I think I explain it pretty simply in the video, but some people would group it with Paul's letters, and some would group it with the general epistles. (Similarly to how some people like to set Revelation in its own category when grouping NT books, and others keep it lumped in with the general epistles.)
Of course, you don't need to wait on me to publish a more comprehensive look at Pauline authorship-feel free to shoot your own video that covers all the stuff _you_ think should be addressed. ;-)

Jewish Faith? God has a Jewish faith and a Christian Faith. It took you about 20 seconds to know you don’t know what the apostolic scriptures mean. Paul was a Jew too so how come he and all those Jews before the Gentile nation was called didn’t have a Jewish Faith?
WHO gave Paul the authority to speak on behalf of Jesus? And if that's your answer then why are you not a Mormon believing in the New New Testament? Because James Smith said Jesus came to him just like Paul did. And tell the truth. If the church got together and said they were wrong and Mormons were right you would switch.
Wow. Some pretty big assumptions here.
"Who gave Paul the authority to speak on behalf of Jesus?" According to Paul and the author of Acts (let's just call them Luke), the apostles in Jerusalem saw no contradiction between the gospel they'd been preaching and the message Paul was spreading, and had nothing to add to Paul's message (Acts 9:26-27; Galatians 2:6-7). In fact, Paul claims that he _subjected_ his message to the apostles to make sure that it was in keeping with the teachings of those who had lived with Christ (Galatians 2:1-2).
You might ask, "Well, Luke was an associate of Paul's, and Paul wrote Galatians, so who's to say this story wasn't cooked up by Paul to feign his legitimacy?"
I think the strongest reason to believe that Paul and the apostles saw themselves as co- laborers in the same faith (as opposed to originators of rival cults) is a combination of 1) the lack of work renouncing Paul from the early church, and 2) the agreement in the early church community that both parties spoke with apostolic authority. The gospels of Matthew and John were written after Paul's death and do not derive their authority from association with Paul, yet take no strides to contradict his teachings. The pseudepigraphal writers of the New Testament (e.g., whoever wrote 2 Peter) were comfortable assuming that their audiences would believe Peter and Paul were on the same page, even going so far as to lament that some people distort Paul's authoritative teachings (2 Peter 3:15-16). If the apostles in Jerusalem had found Paul to be problematic, it's reasonable to assume that there would be literature from the apostles warning people against this charismatic figure-but we don't have that literature.
But now you should ask, "Who gave the _original apostles_ the authority to speak on Jesus' behalf?" The short answer is that the apostles claimed to have been tasked with spreading Jesus' teachings and wooing the nations into allegiance to him through the anointing of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:18-20; Luke 1:4-8; 1 Peter 1:1,10-12; 5:1). Could they have made it all up? Sure. _Would_ they have made it all up, throwing their lives away on a lie? If so, I'm not sure what their endgame would be. By the accounts we have, it seems like the apostles believed what they were saying was true, and believed it enough to be willing to die for it (c.f. "How Did the Apostles Die? What We Actually Know" overviewbible.com/how-did-the-apostles-die/).
All this to say the "rogue Paul" theory isn't very compelling to me, so I don't promote it on this channel. If legitimate evidence to the contrary were to arise, of course I'd reconsider. (This is an educational channel, after all.)

First: it's a huge stretch of the imagine any hypothetical that begins with "if the church got together and said …" because it presumes that "the church" "gets together" and "says" stuff. Sure, there are ecumenical councils here and there. But given that Christianity is already divided into three major historical traditions (Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant-the last of which is incredibly decentralized), your thought experiment involves every major tradition-who don't even agree on which books count as canonical in the Old Testament-coming together and then pulling off a full top-down dissemination of an entirely new christology. And _even if that happened_, history suggests that new schisms would form. Given that entire faith traditions have split over issues such as chattel slavery, divorce, female and gay clergy eligibility, and music, the idea that a global, decentralized, heterogenous religion would somehow come together to adopt a recent, novel, and niche christology model is borderline ludicrous.
Second: you assume the degree of authority that any "governing" church body has on an individual's beliefs-specifically mine. I don't have a denominational line to toe here, and it's not like I'm incorporating papal edicts into my beliefs regarding the historicity of events that have no substantiating evidence. Many Christians don't believe the Exodus took place as portrayed in the Bible _because_ there is no substantiating historical evidence-it's not like they're going to change their minds about North American history just because a council of theologians tells them to.
Third: The man who claimed to receive the special revelation that sparked the Latter Day Saint movement was named Joseph Smith, not James Smith. ;-)
The term Christian was coined by pagans in Antioch. Jesus never called us Christian nor do we practice Christianity. God calls out to us to be holy. Paul's issue with other folks was based on him been a pharisee did not believe in Jesus as the son of God at the time. God is always transitional and revealed by divine revelation.
If your committing sin looking for a savior, as a disciples , you are gonna die in sin as a martyl. After, Christ death, you should became responsible for your own salvation and through prayer you are redeemed. It was written for all war heroes to be executed for not being the person who died for crazy politicians and police sins in your environments. I was not the one who called you to sin. I ordered , for the sinful Christian Hebrew's using Judaism to co exist to die in your sin in the form of a death. There's no reason to keep all these sinners in their own right alive.
Paul contradicts the whole rest of the Bible including all that Jesus taught. But no one who hasn't studied the Bible thoroughly can see that.
Paul didn't contradict Jesus teachings after the stoning of steven he started a new GOSPEL for the BODY of Christ to go to heaven! The other gospel promised to the bride is the new earth.
This is not accurate. Paul is right in line with Christ because Christ chose him to preach the gospel to the Gentiles & Israel. Paul contradicts absolutely nothing but rather explains the story of Christ in greater detail. It's not a "new gospel" or his own doctrine but the gospel of Jesus Christ. "just as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you, as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction." (2 Peter 3)
"But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel." (Acts 9:15)
