The Paramount Theater stood vacant and run down for many years. I remember in the '90s when they restored it to it's original glory. A beautiful venue!

Lee do not feel bad about the rain.....I know you want to film outside but you gave us a great nooks and crannies tour of the inside......GREAT PLACE!!!!!! Agree on that under stage.
When I worked as a line-mechanic it took time to finally work my way into Union shops. I had jobs where I quit within hours, days, and weeks for my own safety. I remember investigating back in my day that if OSHA inspected just the auto repair business it would take four years, and that is before all the deregulations passed since then.
👋👋. Amazing building. Got a much needed chuckle out of the brief view of the mural with the "let them eat cake" vibe. Was debating whether the pit was to cull members of the community who couldn't behave themselves or whether they have the ability to raise things before the show. Assume those hydraulics are an add on to the original building. Know somebody who taught at UVA but have never been there. The brief street shot looks lovely (helps cleanse the mental palate of those tiki torch images).
Thanks for continuing to help me live vicariously through you to see some of these awesome venues. Before you sneak up on people I just skip ahead in the video -- everyone has their own level of tolerance. Please show more gear, esp including all the sound stuff. Cheers
I love the rain and seeing places that remind me of being young when our climate was more stable. The street reminds me of places here in Melbourne so much. This is an interesting walk with amazing features and a great atmosphere. I had a great laugh yesterday watching the movie The Replacements and hearing a great soundtrack. Thank you Lee for the walk and the laughs. The soundtrack you show is natural and from the heart. Hi to everyone.🙏🖐😎

Good evening, Lee! 🤗 Well, at least it's an indoor concert this evening. I think that rain is coming up here tomorrow into Tuesday. It was a gorgeous day here on Cape Cod today. Hey Brad, play that flute for us. I think my first flute was a Selmer. We need to see you each and every day, or else our day isn't complete. I get a kick out of Lee sneaking up on ya. 😆🎶😎 🎷 I think everyone's getting punchy at this point in the tour. I can't blame them, but.... the beat goes on. 😆🎶 Jeeze, listening to Lamont's voice; it sounds like he's singing even when he's talking. 😃 Nice looking venue. Have a great show tonight, guys. 🎸🎶😎 Love you, Lee! ❤🤗
A salute to Brad’s patience; he might need a ‘Do Not Disturb At Work’ sign, it is already hot enough with 87 F and 64% humidity. Do the sound technicians setting up use software to evaluate sound reflections to adjust or do they do it totally by ear? These theater interiors are each so separate and not like going into big box stores or familiar fast food facilities that all look the same. OSHA, Occupational Safety and Health Act, would have a field day if allowed to inspect. Thank you for the tour Leland.
Hi Artemis! I believe there are peak limiters and gates put on the sound as a part of the mix. Their VU meters and other things are indeed on computers. Then they dial it in by ear from there. (Acoustic performance is measured too, although I am not sure how. Maybe by materials, surfaces, etc. How good the sound reflects.)
Hi brother. Hope you are well. I read your comment the other day about Audrey and generally she is pretty easy to find but love your detective work. I once was a OHSA officer where I worked and was well known for shutting things down. Unfortunately now like yourself we have to scan everywhere and slip hazards have changed from objects to people. Where I live in Melbourne we have lots of streets similar to out front of the venue and I love seeing old buildings preserved. So much seems to get demolished nowadays and I figure as we age the sign of the times becomes similar to previous generations seeing change. I had forgotten how good the movie The Replacements was and the last few minutes is a bit deep and profound with ‘Heroes’ being played in the background. Actually fell great to laugh and escape for a little while. Always great to read your comments.👍✌️

Orchestra pits have always made me nervous for several of these same reasons. Seems like one person every year for every orchestra pit gets hurt and it's about a fifty fifty horrific kind of hurt. The Flies, and pulleys also give me a sense of foreboding, for people operating the curtains and scenery sandbags. The ropes. People lose limbs and often bleed out before they hit the stage floor from an accident in the flies, falling or getting caught in the ropes, or a combination of both. It usually takes more than one person pulling often three, and if one of them spaces out what they're doing and lets go, the one or two holding on is screwed because the weight of the sandbags are too much for one person. So there are people on different levels of the grid in tall flies, operating in tandem. It's kind of like a rowing team, but more is at stake. Extreme arm muscles. Who ever is still holding on if it hasn't been anchored, goes up with the rope, holding on, till someone notices, and gets help, (before they rise to the cog of the upper pulley) at best. It's real easy for people to panic, and for a second person of three to impulsively let go to chase the first one who let go, for help. I have just heard too many horror stories from stage managers. Vibing every which way for peeps to be safe. 🙏🏻🍀🦆, horseshoes, ...everything. 😳😑😶💕

@@RockandRollWoman No, and why they are not on my menu; my diet is based on limiting the use of fossil fuels. As someone trained in law it would not be hard for you see the relationship between growing grain for animals to be fed and then being slaughtered. But eggs are even lower than chicken, fish, and dairy on the amount of fossil fuels needed. If people stopped red meat consumption it would be a big savings of fossil fuel used. It took 250,000 years for the human population to reach one billion people and that was at the start of the 19th century. The current population is just under eight billion. The last one billion took only 14 years to be added. Anyone with an understanding of an expanding population on a fixed Earth’ resources will see what we have done will no longer be feasible. It will be those who are under 20 who will face what we have refused to do; they will not be happy especially by 2050.
I can't wait for the invention of smell o vision Mr Sklar , as I think the aromas seeping out from the old theatres ' fixtures and fittings in particular ,would be fantastic to experience ? Sights ,sounds and smells ... The holy trinity of broadcasting ! By the way ,one of these days you are going to open a broom cupboard and Mr Brad the Professor will be in there ready to pounce on you .... Serendipity and all that ! Best wishes.
Could somebody please explain what that constant pounding is? Surely they’re not checking drums for that long and I can’t think what else it would be …….
Helen, It might be more complex than you think; each venue has its unique signature. I am impressed that the sound is set so quickly. If it is not done correctly both the band and audience would be even more disappointed. ☮
@@artemisXsidecross oh, I’m absolutely certain that it’s more complex than I know! Its just that I always though sound checks were with the entire band….checking each mic and making sure the balance was right. I actually attended a sound check yesterday..,really cool. But I just couldn’t make sense of using a single sound…,a repetitive sound in the same frequency for over 30 minutes, to gauge acoustics.
As I understand it every room has its own acoustic character. It is possible to capture that character using something called impulse response where a band of frequencies are played as a pulse and the results recorded so that the character of that location can be simulated in studio performances. Perhaps you wish to sound as though you recorded in a large cathedral. For a travelling sound engineer, however, this must be a nightmare. The show has a particular sound which the performers want their audience to hear every single time. All those soft seats and curtains absorbing certain frequencies, hard walls at funny angles reflecting sound all over the place. I have no idea how they acheive it but I observe that they set up a microphone forward of the sound desk which I assume feeds into the computers where it can be analysed so the guys can work their magic and compensate for undesireable reverb and level shifts due to attenuation by all the soft furnishings. The hard work that they put in does require acoustic inputs such as low frequency bass drums. Hope that helps.
Chill out and stay dry , head south on rt 29 to north garden and cow down on some pizza at Dr. Hoes humble pie and pizza, it will put a smile on your face !!
Singing In The Rain ⛈ I love old deco movie theaters! The dragon on the floor looks pretty cool. Lee have you ever signed a wall at a venue and if so where?
What a fun video, yeaa gotta watch out for those sax/flute players, you don't want to creep up on them, hahah.😆But he is brave practicing sax in public.
Did I gather that Brad is not happy. He seemed very serious. Could be an act, but did not look like it. I have felt tension there for a while now. Could be my imagination. But Leland, if he does not want to be on your video's its his loss. Thousands of people follow your adventure. And people you introduce get huge promotion from it.
I would not like to be surprised by a gawking smartphone by anyone and that would include friends. If they know me this would most likely not happen. Brad seems friendly enough but practicing his music is private time.
Brad needs to call H R on you Mr Sklar you’re a menace to the public. 🖕🏼. I watch every episode that you post. Back when I was on the road we would play 9 holes or find a softball diamond at a park, I would have loved to document it especially from a stage view. Take care stay hydrated Mr Sklar and have a great day.

You might have added a new wrinkle to the phrase ‘break a leg’ used in theater performance.
Thank you splash, I alway enjoy what and how you write. ☮
Oy! I wish i knew you were in town! I live just a short ride away from there...
Thanks Leland
Have a good show
I appreciate you, thank you for making content.
Beautiful theater but man it sounds a bit active.. perhaps they should hang down some baffles next to that big chandelier :)
Georgious theatre Lee ! Yes, I thought the same about the safety of the orchestra pit - slippy, slippy !!!
Did Lamont say deep fried eggs???????
"Deep-fried eggs are a special breakfast dish that is easy to make. Soft-boiled eggs are breaded and fried with a savory bacon breadcrumb coating so they have a delicious crispy coating."
@@artemisXsidecrossDefinitely not vegan. 😂
@@RockandRollWoman
No, and why they are not on my menu; my diet is based on limiting the use of fossil fuels.
Or as John Lennon said ‘You may say I'm a dreamer. But I'm not the only one’. ☮
@@artemisXsidecross It's analog to a Scotch Egg, from, well, Scotland and the UK. Sausage covered hard boiled egg.
A real Spinal Tap set down there below….a warren of corridors.
Deep fried deviled eggs!?!😮 Amy is right..rain is good for us in the South in the Summer!! Y'all in California don't know nothing bout humidity!! 😅
Totally agree, without scent it is a partially empty envelope, but a fascinating facsimile. ☮
If you get a chance, go to MarieBette bakery/cafe. They have great food. My daughter is a baker there. I think they have a store on the downtown mall.
The battle of the brass!!!!
Leland: Have you ever left your signature on any walls at the venues where you have performed?

Have you ever signed a Wall?
A few times but do it tiny and like near the floor
@@lelandsklar6363 I sent you an email, Lee.
So cool thank you so much YOU’RE the BEST
Lovely old theatre. HP, where are you. Just found out your girls are on their way home. Lucky them, back to Summer
@@w.geoffreyspaulding6588
👍
@@terrytheoldgoat WONDERFUL and very clear explanation Terry, you old goat, you. 😉. Much more to it than I knew. Thank you. I learned something today!
Love the videos. Careful sneaking up on people…you might cause a cardiac event. All the best to y’all!

Singing In The Rain ⛈ I love old deco movie theaters! The dragon on the floor looks pretty cool. Lee have you ever signed a wall at a venue and if so where?
Lee keep creeping up on Brad!
Hey there, Lee and everyone!
Hi Winston 🖐
@@barrywaples8150 Hey Barry! Cheers to you! 🍻
Hello Winston 👍
@@artemisXsidecross Hey! ✌
Hi Winston!
Mr Sklar, you should sign the wall too and video-tape it🎵
What a fun video, yeaa gotta watch out for those sax/flute players, you don't want to creep up on them, hahah.😆But he is brave practicing sax in public.
That remark about Gene Kelly reminds me of this clip with the late great Miguel Ferrer.

Always creeping up on Brad… quit sneaking up on Brad you mean man.. 😉 ❤
Yeah. Hope they have no children's concerts in that hall. That pit ...
See you soon.
You keep 'neaking up on Brad, mean mean man
Did I gather that Brad is not happy.
