- A tour and test sail on a new Lagoon 450 Sport Top. This is the new version of the 450 Fly Bridge of which there are over 400 out there sailing. Be sure to check out the link below of a 450F sailing around the world. We sailed on the San Francisco Bay with the typical summer westerly. Would you view this cat as capable of safely crossing an ocean? How would you compare sea worthiness vs a monohull, i.e. Iliohale?

Hi John, yes I would cross oceans on this boat without hesitation. Many Lagoons have crossed oceans and sailed around the world. Check out the Catamaran Impi channel which is a Lagoon 440 cruising around the world. In terms of safety and comfort differences between catamarans and mono hulls, it really depends on the specific boat. There are many good and bad boats regardless of the number of hulls. There are general pros and cons for both types of boats and there are very opinionated people in both camps. I have been a life long mono hull sailor, 40+ years and I plan to cross oceans with family and friends on a catamaran.
Thanks. What kind of cat will you be using? I grew up believing that only keeled monohulls were safe for an ocean crossing... but there appears to be a change of opinion (and experience) maybe based on improved technology?
Hi John, you can check out the many channels that I follow of cruising catamarans. We have been seriously evaluating production catamarans now for about a year. Our top choice is a Nautitech Open 46. We are scheduled to charter one in early May and will make a final decision on the boat after that. Look for the video of our charter. If we don't still love the boat after that then we will seriously look at the Lagoon 42 and 450S. The wind instruments on the boat were not working? On a brand spank'n new boat? Uhhhhhh...........................golly..............................that sucks! And the main sail was not rigged right? That sucks too!
Walter Strong They had not hooked them up yet, the boat was just launched the week prior.
To anyone interested in purchasing a 450S, I just heard from the dealer of the boat in my video. This boat is still for sale and they are offering it at a very good price. The boat is extremely will equipped from factory and in my opinion Passage Nautical is wonderful dealer to work with. Drop me a note here and I will put you in contact with the dealer.

This is a nice catamaran, I like Lagoon but in this price range the new 47 from Fountaine Pajot is a much better boat imo...
Each generation of catamaran just seems to be get better and better with new thinking on the designs and new components. I have not toured the Lagoon factory but I have toured the Fountain Pajot factory. Very informative post, ty for showing me that. You are doing good research and I'm sure you will find the perfect boat for you.
Be careful of a pretty face. Always get past the emotions and be logical and discerning. FP makes an OK boat as well as others, yet just always look under the hood of any boat.

music is always a matter of taste. What is definately wrong is the ballance of the volume between music and naration. I listen to your naration and have to turn it up, then the music cuts in and I'm almost deafend. Makes for a real bad viewing experience. One shouldn't have to turn the volume up and down during a video.
