- Hi Guys,
I’ve been wanting to try this for a while and finally got into figuring it out so you don’t have to. This was so much easier than I thought. All you need is a wooden ruler from Dollar Tree, 2 sets of screw posts from Hobby Lobby and a Crop-A-Dile. That’s it.
I hope you give this project a try, I know you’ll love it.
Thanks for watching!

What a super duper new way to bind your journals - def have to try this - thank you for sharing - love your journal
Hi Heather. Thanks so much for watching. So glad you enjoyed it
How cute is that! I have a couple of old, antique, fold out, wooden tape measures that have been laying around for years. I might try cutting them apart and using them for a neat little journal! You are so creative! Thank you for all the ideas and work that you do.
Hi Susan. That’s a fantastic idea. Sounds amazing. I would love to see how your journal turns out. I’m thinking of making one myself. I have the perfect paper pack from Stamperia to do it. Thanks for watching Susan
Heyyyy, I feel late to the party!! I’m so used to seeing you the same day! Ya know, I realize I can pause and comeback later, but I really want to watch you all the way through!!!
This project was so inspiring!! I loved watching you decorate. Even the idea of a simple journal, even binding it in another simple way, I don’t know, but my wheels are spinning!! Makes creating a JJ, not so intimidating.
Please know, I think it’s adorable how you combine words! It’s so cute AND relatable!! Like when you put cute and cool together… kewl, it’s a great word!! 😂😂 I do this constantly. I just yell out “trademark” afterwords! 🤷♀️😂😂
❤️❤️
You are the best Terri! Thanks for wanting to “trademark” my KEWL-ness. Lol

Hi Ellen, thanks so much for watching
Such a cute project. I made cookbooks last Christmas for my family members using thin wood for the covers. I wasn’t happy with the way they opened. I think if I had scored the paper, they might have worked better. Thank you for showing this. I’ll have to try it on my copy and get them all back to fix! I appreciate how you figure things out and share it with all of us. Your work is always impeccable.
Hi Barbara. Your cookbooks sounds amazing. What a cool idea. I’m glad this project gave you some ideas too. Thank you for always watching and for your kindness. So sweet!
If you dont make a mess you're not crafting ❤
I totally agree Ms. Suzy!
This is a great idea! I have been gathering sewing-themed items for a sewing journal for a friend’s birthday in January. This will be a great feature since there often is a lot of measuring in sewing. The journal will be basically pink, so I will look into staining the ruler with pink ink.
I had a thought about one of those old-fashioned thinner rulers (prob. less than 1/2 in inch) that were jointed. They opened up to be more than a yard long. They'd be perfect for this. I'm also thinking about using for a sewing journal. I love old sewing notions, language, threads, etc.
The sewing journal sounds amazing! I’ve been wanting to make one too. Thanks so much for watching
Great idea! You could use decorated chipboard or even lace instead of a ruler to give you room for more pages. I saw that Karen mentioned you can get 1/2" screw posts, too.
Hi Donna. Those are all great ideas. Thanks so much for watching
Hi Maggie. Super cute idea. I will keep this on my list of makes. Cute idea for teacher gifts. TFS ❤😁
Hi Denise. This would actually be a really cool teacher gift. I might make one for my daughters teacher. Great idea. Thanks so much for watching
Great idea! As a side note: you can get longer posts at a hardware store...

Hi Maggie! Those are really cute! Definitely gonna make one of these! When you go to hobby lobby’s site they sell those screw posts in both the 1/4” and 1/2”. Didn’t know if you were aware of that Incase you want to make a thicker book. 🎄🎅🏻
They also sell post extensions to make them taller (to add more papers, so you could use the rulers on sides.
Thanks Karen..I didn’t know. That’s awesome. Thanks so much for watching
PS lock tight glue will secure your screw posts
Thanks for the tip Ellen
Hi Maggie! These are just the cutest little journals! Can you tell me what the size is of those screw posts?
Hi Sherri, the size of the post is .25" and the screw is .18". I bought the pack at Hobby Lobby. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching
Hi Maggie. I loved this idea and want to try it. I have the ruler but wanted to know the size of the posts and how many pages you used. I would need to buy the posts. You are so talented. Thanks!
Hi Erika, glad you liked this project. The posts that I used are from Hobby Lobby: Here’s the link to that haul where I mention these screw posts:
ua-cam.com/video/wLjXRWjOEFc/v-deo.html
Check the 9:37 mark.
I used 20 pages of different thicknesses not including the cover pages.
I hope that helps. Thanks for watching
Very cute! Thank you for sharing. Question. What kind of paper did you say at the beginning? Sokoto wing?
Hi Tiffany. The paper is called Cicada Wing Paper. I know, weird name but that’s what it’s called on Temu. It’s really great paper. Thanks for watching
Maggie could you tell me where in Hobby Lobby you found the screws you used? Thanks. I just love this idea
Hi Susan, Of course..I should’ve mentioned it again so sorry about that. I found the screw posts in the unfinished wood section. I hope you find them. Thanks so much for watching
What a awesome project! I’m in love! What section did you say you got those bolt things in? I remember you said you got them at Hobby lobby, but I don’t remember what area?? TIA ❤
Hi Alyson. So glad you liked this project. I found the screw posts in the unfinished wood section. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching :) Maggie
@@SunsetCrafts yes! Thank you bunches!
This is such a fun junk journal! I have two questions-how did you cut the ruler in half? and which department did you find those post things at Hobby Lobby? Lol I really want to make this book! Thank you for the inspiration! :)
Hi Katy! So I cut the ruler just with my craft knife. I slit all around the ruler then snapped it. The screw posts are in the unfinished wood section. I hope that helps. Thanks so much for watching
@@SunsetCrafts yay! Thank you so much! 😊
I like using rub on’s also.
Hi Vaneese, me too..they are so much fun!
1:15 Are they made from balsa? Really light wood...
Not sure, but they are definitely very light weight. Thanks for watching Kayenne
Do you think this would work for a normal size journal, like 9 tall by 6 wide?
Hi Donna! I think this would look cool in any size. It just can’t be too thick. That’s the only disadvantage. Thanks so much for watching.
Do you think this will work with eyelets or Brads?
Yes! This will absolutely work with brads and eyelets. I’ve already tried it. It’ll be great. Thanks so much for watching
Just a fyi….Walmart has those rulers for .54
That’s even better. Thanks so much for watching Karen
