As someone who has been working on his own TTRPG system for over a year now I find your excitement and progress really motivating. Doing something like this is a mountain of work, and I am so pleased for you that it has paid off. I look forward to giving it a go at some point.

Thanks for sharing with us. I've been working on my own TTRPG system that does more with all the dice and not just the d20. It's good to hear how others are tackling their obstacles. Keep it up Jazza!

Super exciting. I know you’ve got the guide but in the name of accessibility I couldn’t help but think being able to eventually download or purchase a workbook per world or project we make would be amazing. Having a workbook we can plug everything into streamlining and inspiring the process for original worlds or adaptation, using the experience you guys already have. My ADHD would definitely get in the way of having to read the rules and a guide separately with templates and tips and tricks, rather than having a world/rules bible all in one, per world we create or adapt could be amazing and raise the bar for indie game publishing.

I like 5x5 system because it's easy and fast to create a character. Easy to explain to people who have never played any ttrpg, and easily adaptable to any genre. Looking forward to seeing what cogent role play looks like.

I'd been DMing D&D for a while, and I started to get into Blades in the Dark, and I enjoyed running it more than I did D&D, but it could never truly supplant it because I like fantasy. Then WotC gave us all the middle finger, so D&D can go eff itself. Pathfinder is even more unlike Blades in the Dark mechanically, so I'll happily play in my friend's campaign that they switched to Pathfinder for but it's not what I want to DM. I eventually started reading FATE, because it's setting agnostic and like Blades it emphasises the story, but it was a bit too simple to be engaging for my now-Pathfinder friend. I'd recommend it; I liked what I read. But as I was making my way through the book I came across an intro video to Cortex Prime, which turned out to be perfect for me; the roll&keep thing is juuuust enough crunch to keep my friend interested when it's my turn to GM, and it's open and narrative enough to appeal to how Blades in the Dark showed me I want to run games. Plus it's fun contemplating which elements to bring together to best suit a particular theme. I had considered the Cypher System, but I like the fact that Cortex Prime isn't just setting agnostic, but actually lets you create a custom system for a campaign, rather than just being one thing that can be applied to anything.
So, tl;dr - I discovered I prefer GMig systems that lean more narrative rather than complex mechanics, and I like a system that I can apply to a variety of settings but isn't just exactly the same each time. It saves me learning a new system to tell a new story ;)

This will be fun to follow and after switching away from D&D cause wizards being… wizards. With the OGL issue, the lack of support for DMs, the consistent lying about AI, D&D really isn’t D&D anymore. My group said we don’t want to support wizards. Which is why the only books we’ve gotten are third party. I’m looking forward to trying a new system. Currently my group switch to Shadowdark and we are eventually going to shift to DC20.
What happened to the magnetic dungeon tiles?

Honestly, I like rules-light games that are easy to prep and run. I hate getting bogged down by really complex character creation, and I hate dealing with rules lawyering. I gave 5E a try for my friends that liked it, but I still prefer old-school (AD&D and prior) games, the OSR type games, Call of Cthulhu, and Savage Worlds.

Q: how has Gateway answered some RP questions/ solved some of your problems or grievances with pre-existing systems? If GW was being sold to you, why would you get into it? : D
I don't know if this is lame, but my answer to that question is that your systems are more RP focused, and have a lot of room for "rule of cool!" Something that turns me off of a lot of systems is the overbearing crunch and suffocating "you MUST play like this, otherwise you're wrong and stupid." I hate feeling forced into doing anything without a sense of direction, and purpose behind it. I don't want to make a decision just because the rules say so, ya know? : D
I do play D&D once a week, as well as another RP system once a week! Who knoooows what system that would be? Haha!
I'm saying all this now after having watching the stream, but my excitment for GW has been continually growing! The 2h patreon video, as well as the stream afterward was reassuring that I think my party is going to have a LOT of fun figuring out GW! I have yet to really scour through the documents, but I have them and have skimmed!
I give all my best to Tom! I hope he's doing well! He was a lot of fun!!

I like to play D&D and similar systems (D20), but not the version you know. I usually play a moderately modified version of 3.5e. People say that it's crunchy, but really it is more a versatile system that can be easily modified and balanced if done right. It does take a little math and logic, but then again that sort of thing doesn't bother me. This also goes for the Spycraft system and D20 Future system as, despite the flaws in their development, the flaws can be quantified and corrected, or new additions can be added with ease. Plus, those systems alleviate GMs from having to carry the burden of gaming mechanics results, and focus more on plot. If I were to try something new, it would be because I want to see a system that has some crunch, modularity, and is easier on GMs for settings that may have a hard time in D&D 3.5e, Spycraft, and D20 Future.

i play dnd call of cthulhu and vampire the masquerade(currently looking for a good and easy system for a zombie apocalypse setting, i try different systems that feel better for certain genres because it saves me the time from having to balance homebrewed mechanics without making things unfair

I prefer Cogent over DnD because it gets better story. DnD can get bogged down in the maths. Combat is more "attack and respond" while DnD is more "I hit it with my strongest weapon over and over." I like how it's versatile with its setting.

(Me, when I was watching this video few days ago): ooh, this sounds so fun, I want to participate! (Joined Stream) (saw rule book with my poor English vocabulary): 😨😨😨 why can't humanity just speak telepathically?? But anyways, I understood some things, and what I haven't understood, I'll understood later If I see how you would be playing it XD Developers of the games usually think, that the most difficult audience is children, but it turns out that the most difficult level is foreign speakers XD I'm not giving up, I want to figure out the rules, it looks too fun to not understand it!

Dnd (5e) is easy to play, easy tu build and understand. It fits the type of game I like (that being fantasy adventure time of mostly high fantasy setting)
GURPS is very versatile, but not for the type of game I like (yes, yes, you can do anything in GURPS, but it is very easy to make a very underpowered, useless even character)
I I am looking forward for your take on things.

I love DnD but the character sheets always feel poorly laid out. Things that need space have none, the spell sheets are a mess. I always get bogged down in spells. I would love a deck of spells. I like when i can add my own flair to a character so its more custom role play stuff than crunchy math checklist stats. Making a character in dnd takes a lot of time and it bothers me to no end that the order of the things in the book are not the order that they appear on the character sheets. Lots of page turning and shuffling around and as a new player you get lost and have to google stuff a lot.

I also always make myself a flowchart placemat for every character that has all the things I have to keep track of to attack, and for the various options on those. Like as a monk with ki or a rouge flanking someone etc. I like a good flow chart.

Have you had a chance to chat with Vincey V and Uncle Adam? They have snarling badger studios and make a game every year, I bet they'd love to chat to you about making games.
    P.S. I'm a little jelly of your valhiem hoodie🧊
