I got these because of you for a tarp you recommended as well. Infact, a lot of my camping gear is from you, Thank you. I always enjoy your outdoor adventures but it's great to get real reviews on products to buy without wasting money.
I've been using them since around 2009. I can't remember the exact year. I use them with an old canvas tarp. They're still working like the day I bought them. I've always been careful with them. So that probably lent to their longevity. Thank you for always giving your honesty.
yeah. I doubt they stopped making them due to his video, but I had a set that mysteriously vanished from my garage. It'd be nice to get another set for backpacking.
I bought some Green Elephant poles because of your initial review, and they've been fantastic. Used them camping, setting up a sunshade over a hammock in the back yard, all sorts of things and I have absolutely no complaints so far and they're WAY better than the flimsy metal poles I purchased from REI previously.
Great updated review, thank you and good timing! I have had these in my Amazon wishlist for multiple years now and have been meaning to finally purchase some in the past few weeks. I will be getting the 4 pack to have more optionality and save slightly more money per pole.
I purchased these based off your recomendation and they've been great. Glad they have the 4 pack. going to get them and replace other pools that don't adjust like these.
As with a few others I bought a set right after seeing your first review. I bought a 2nd pair a year later. Have not regretted it one bit. I do not use mine as much as you do so I was glad to see this review that they are holding up well.
I have Green Elephant Poles and another that is similar in construction called Camuland. The Camuland are a bit cheaper (something like $7.00/set) and have proven to be equal in quality to the Green Elephant. Both are available on Amazon. The Camuland does feature two eyes that make guy line tie-off/security a breeze as well as removable SS Tips that will store in the base of the pole. I have found both to be excellent products compared to others.
Got 6 from your first review awhile back. Love them! Very handy. I did have 2 that came slightly bent on one of the sections. Doesn’t affect performance at all. These are a great buy😊
I bought 6 of these from Amazon. They are the "top hill" brand and they are excellent. Specs are nearly identical and the quality is very good as well. Zero issues in the few years I've had them
I just saved them to buy on Amazon! Then I come across this video! Buying them with a recommended tarp from one of your adventure videos. Great content! Keep it up!
I've searched for a cycling tent review and found Luke's review of NH Spider 1 and I've purchased it (good choice). I'm happy I found this channel not only for reviews but for the adventures and positive energy. I also bought Jungle Blanket and Forclaz 70l Easyfit and it was a good choice also. S&H
I’ve been using these poles to support my cover on my SeaDoo Switch pontoon boat. This has been daily for over 2 years over salt water with no issues. I also use them when camping.
Used them this year no issues. Got the 4 pack along with the largest rab sil tarp. It became our groups groups cooking and social point, really usefull
Have you considered drilling some small drainage holes at the base of the shaft to allow drainage? (I would recommend extending the pole our before drilling so as to avoid drilling multiple sections)
Two weeks ago I was camping at Grand Canyon. I used a small pole for the center of the picnic table to push up the center of my tarp. That way I could use the longer poles elsewhere.
Poles are a difficult commodity...most do somethings well, but not all things well...another great review...thanks! (Btw Im using Foxwing poles...very reliable)
I've learned to place the rubber balls toppers to inhibit water to filter into the poles and has been successful. I have them now for the past three years and they're in GREAT shape.
Years ago, upon your recommendation, I tried to find these and they were not available anywhere I looked. I bought identical poles from another company but they are amazing and so handy. They take high wind very well too.
my personal tips for these poles. when you adjust them start from the bottom of the pole and go up from there. the ball end section should be the last one you extend. store them gently and keep them where they won't get dented. a dent 100% will turn into a weak point and could cause it to fail. they're meant for the force to come from the top, not the sides. that's about it. they work great and last forever if you're gentle.
I have a set and experienced the same issue of the tubes filling with water, what I did was flip the pole and put a tennis ball on the spiked end to sit on the ground. The other end I drilled a small hole near the end and put a small hook through it, works great no more water. if its dry for the week I put it up the normal way.
I got the hikeman ones on Amazon. I love them and to me they perform just like green elephant. However, their storage bag, I am able to fit the four poles, stakes, and extra guidelines in the storage bag. They too also stay wet despite trying to dry them out. I’ve had them less than a year but so far no issues. Tho, I don’t camp nearly as often as you do. I don’t know how well they’d stand up to that large tarp you have but have used them on a 10x13 in down pouring rain.
A couple things I would love you to review is a foldable grill that can use gas, wood, or charcoal, like the skotti grill. Also, a popup up tent from Amazon that can be used in an emergency, kept in your trunk if you had to leave your car for some reason.
I bought a pair of these a couple of weeks ago from an older lady off of Facebook marketplace for 20 bucks. She bought them for her daughter and she never used them and she was moving out of the country.
I have a set of GE poles - well made but had to drill drain holes in the plastic 'inserts' at the bottom of the pole (after pulling off the rubber feet) to empty out water that collects inside the tubes after rain.
I have purchased two difference exact clones of this poles. Literally all 4 poles broke in same spot. Between 2nd & 3rd pole joint during windy condition. Gonna purchase Green Elephant and compare it. I have a higher % feeling that it will be same products.
I was thinking about how the poles sink into the ground in wet conditions. I'd try to use some of those rubber furniture feet that protect hardwood floors. They'd spread out the footprint of the pole and keep it from getting pressed into the soil.
I picked up a Roadhouse Tarp for my truck and didn't really like the heavy bungeed poles that came with it, heavy and clunky. Based on your previous review I went ahead and purchased a set of 4 of the Green Elephant telescopic poles. What a huge difference in weight and convenience! Thank you!! You also just validated my recent purchase! 🙂
Another great review, Luke. Always good to hear a follow up of previous reviews that speaks to the longevity and quality of a product that is actually used. Too many 'reviews' are box opening descriptions of the product and that's it. Not very helpful so we appreciate the reviews you do after actually using the product in real-life conditions. Have a great week.
Your reviews are independent, well presented and detailed. One problem I have is to searching for your reviews so that I can compare like products. Any chance to develop a search method so that we can search a specific group of products . Thanks
Use a cheap baseball or softball to replace/improve upon the smaller rubber ball when using the poles to support the middle of the tarp. The larger surface are will spread out the stress on the tarp material. Drill a 1/4 in diameter hole and you are good to go.
Have you considered drilling a 1/32 hole in the bottom section about 1/2 inch above the rubber? That would allow the water to drain out. Might help. I love the reviews. Myself, I have the Garden V poles and they are very similar.
Hope you get to do the new Naturehike R 5.8 Camping Inflatable Mattress in a future video. Its not cheap and cant find much about it. Love the channel!
It looks to me like there are holes in the end cap for drainage - if that's not working then the holes are stopped up and need to be cleared - as to the rubber knob end caps - put a zip tie around the cap shatf and a lanyard to tie it to the shaft with another zip tie -
I have four of these and I drilled a hole in the plastic end cap where both of the holes are in the rubber feet and on in the center. It seems like they thought drain holes were a good idea but never matched the caps to the rubber feet. Now they dry fine after being out in the rain.
04:39 ... You said early in the video that the earlier "short" silver poles were so short you really couldn't use them with anything. But then here you are using them later on in the video. Did they produce yet a third "model" that did turn out to be useful, though shorter or what? Or are you showing a prototype there or ?
To dry, have you tried extending them in the sun, at an angle with the feet toward the higher point? Heat should evaporate the water. Sort of "airing them out"
I know you don't recommend taking the feet off but if you take them foot off, will the water not drain out the bottom? Thanks for the long term review. I've seen those on Amazon and baulked at the price but will give them a second look now.
On the water build up inside the pole, what about drilling 2 sm holes near the base of the pole? Do you think that would effect the use of the poles? Youd have to drill another hole near the middle so has a air flow .....
I have the hikeman and these, the only difference I can tell between them is the ballend on the Elepant and the Hikeman has eyelets, well not eyelets but places to hook carabiners. The hikemans also sadly seem to retain water.
Would an o ring just the right size for each pole work. Make your adjustment and slide the o ring down to the connection point. Walla. No more rain water down that opening. Maybe. Just a thought.
I almost ordered a set of those...would like to use them with my canvas Tentsmiths Whelen Lean-To tent...but the tent has canvas loops to tie on. It would be great if these had some type of "Y-shaped" adapter that mounted onto the end and I could better tie a loop onto it. I realize that is a rather specific scenario...perhaps hard to find...but it's what I need. Should you have any recommendation for that, please share it - thanks.
I have 2 sets I also purchased back on 2021, probably because of your review of them. They're just fantastic. They're very useful to have when car camping and need to put up either a very large tarp or to stage out 2 tarps close together for additional shelter. I keep meaning to pick up another set, but keep forgetting. For using them in the middle of a tarp, I have a Taiwanese surplus military spreader cap that has extra fork arms to reduce the point stress so the tarp won't tear.
I bought these after seeing your Original Review. They were awesome for my Trip up to Watkins Glen 6 hr Race. I camped on Site, and i also used the Aqua Quest Tarp. Best products i have in my Kit. Kept me dry during the storms. Thank you Luke for your Honest and un sponsored Reviews!
Luke, I had this thought that if maybe you drilled a small hole (6mm) through the centre of the rubber foot would that help drainage somewhat ? just a thought. Spam & Eggs 💪
I wish they offered one pole. There’s time’s you break, lose or just can’t find one of your poles. Or one that for some reason or other is bent or the mechanisms inside don’t work.. but now you have to buy two poles. And on alot of things.I purchase one to look and inspect the item. So one pole is perfect..for all these situations…one pole.
I got these because of you for a tarp you recommended as well. Infact, a lot of my camping gear is from you, Thank you. I always enjoy your outdoor adventures but it's great to get real reviews on products to buy without wasting money.

The silver ones were for backpacking. They were lighter and broke down shorter to fit in backpacks. I wish they still sold them.
yeah. I doubt they stopped making them due to his video, but I had a set that mysteriously vanished from my garage. It'd be nice to get another set for backpacking.
Because of you & ABCamping I have 3 yes 3 sets!! I’m a car camper & use them all the time & never worry about them. Thank you for your chap.
I bought some Green Elephant poles because of your initial review, and they've been fantastic. Used them camping, setting up a sunshade over a hammock in the back yard, all sorts of things and I have absolutely no complaints so far and they're WAY better than the flimsy metal poles I purchased from REI previously.
Poles filling with water. Drill small hole in plastic foot to allow drainage while storing? Try one and see if it works.
Also consider using them "upside down". They could be attached to the tarp with Prussik loops and toggles. More fiddly, less squirty. YMMV
Great updated review, thank you and good timing! I have had these in my Amazon wishlist for multiple years now and have been meaning to finally purchase some in the past few weeks. I will be getting the 4 pack to have more optionality and save slightly more money per pole.
Thanks Luke! Another great episode!
I purchased these based off your recomendation and they've been great. Glad they have the 4 pack. going to get them and replace other pools that don't adjust like these.
I own two 4-packs (8), and needed 5 of them last week. Used 2 more to tart-up my tent’s vestibule, since I had them. I love ’em!
This pole is the thing I'm going to buy. Finally, I got this video!!!
After seeing how these poles worked for you I bought a set of four. Fantastic product! Thanks for the honest reviews, Luke.
As with a few others I bought a set right after seeing your first review. I bought a 2nd pair a year later. Have not regretted it one bit. I do not use mine as much as you do so I was glad to see this review that they are holding up well.
I bought these because I see you use them all the time. Awesome product! Thanks!
Amazing timing for me that you released this video. I have been trying to figure out what poles you are always using. Ordered! Thanks for sharing.

How "long/wet camps" have you had them?
I have a set of these poles and I don’t camp without them! Trust me, they are the best!
I have four sets of these things, and they work flawlessly. Thanks Luke.
Top notch review as usual. You are greatly appreciated man.
Got 6 from your first review awhile back. Love them! Very handy. I did have 2 that came slightly bent on one of the sections. Doesn’t affect performance at all. These are a great buy😊
I use them all the time and one of my favorites. Thank you
I have used both, the back pack model and the full length. both were outstanding, fast and simple to use.
I actually bought these poles a wile back, based on your prior review. They really are great!

The hook for the ball caps is also a great way to hang a Haven Ridgelight.
I concur with the comment below. I had a set for backpacking and bicycle touring. Now they're gone. Thanks.
We have some that we have used for severl years now. They are awesome
That’s so crazy, I just received a pair of the Avoforest ones today for a trip this weekend. Will update back with how they do!
I bought a pair of these a couple of weeks ago from an older lady off of Facebook marketplace for 20 bucks. She bought them for her daughter and she never used them and she was moving out of the country.
I have them. They’re awesome!!😊
I bought the Hikeman brand because they were less expensive. I have used them for two years and there are holding up great.
Thank you for the review

I paid $78.99 for the 4 pack in May. They weren't on sale either. That's a large price increase.
I’m definitely getting a pack of 4 soon

Great bit of gear. 👍❤️🇭🇲🍺

Have u tried drilling a small weep hole toward the bottom of the pole to drain the water?
I have one elephant pole that is stuck open. That one pole lasted two uses.
For bottom water in poles cany you take bottom cane capes off to drain wster???
Just drill three 1/8 drainage holes a 1/4 inch from the bottom of the pole problem solved. Test it with one pole before modifying them all.
Good morning enjoy your day
For the really muddy/rainy outings, you can put a square piece of wood or tile under the pole so it won’t sink to China while in use.
Luke, I had this thought that if maybe you drilled a small hole (6mm) through the centre of the rubber foot would that help drainage somewhat ? just a thought.

If they are aluminum, they aren't going to rust. Potentially some oxidation, but aluminum doesn't rust.
Get one of those free frisbees and put over center pole.
I've got 6 of those poles I bought years ago.
Could you get 2 and use them as Trekking Poles/Walking stick? I'm 6'5" so taller is good
