Just 2 days ago I found on youtube Neil Young singin "Changes" (last summer Farm Aid Concert) and he says 'bout Phil that he was one of the greatest folksingers of the '60s.....I wish to share my thoughts with the other 49 Phil Ochs fans...Is there a fan group or something like that? sorry for my bad english! super close minded. there can be vapid and thought provoking music in any genre and implying that rap is all stupid/has no meaning is usually rooted in racism.

It happens to all things that become popular in our society because popularity turns people and things into commodities. As a huge fan of both Ochs and hip hop/rap I feel like I offer a unique perspective. If you're looking for conscious, metaphorical, and well-written lyrics I would suggest a few artists such as Aesop Rock, Sole, Sage Francis, Dose One, Deca, Rob Sonic, and Homeboy Sandman to name a few.
