The only reason it might be banned in some countries is because it is a fermented product. And fermented products, like say kimchi or shrimp paste are always difficult to bring across borders, especially if you're bringing some with you while you travel.
Importing it was temporarily halted in the US for a while because folic acid (artificial folate) is tightly regulated in the US, and is only allowed to be added to breads and cereals. There was confusion because Vegemite has a high amount of naturally occurring folate, but somehow it got mistaken with people confusing the natural folate in Vegemite for Folic acid. It's a very niche product here so no one was in a hurry to clear up mistake. Add in some stories about jars being confiscated in airports post 9/11 alongside other pastes and liquids and there you go, "Vegemite Ban" It's all cleared up, but it's still a niche product so it's hard to find
To my knowledge it is not banned in America and its merely a rumor that it is banned, its just not super popular here. I believe it is banned in some European countries tho
Nah, as long as it complies health standards is good to sell. The rumor of it being banned in Europe is because they don't sell it much around. And that's because well, it isn't popular enough, UK has it's own (Marmite) but that's it. You're free to import and buy it, on Amazon for example.
Was banned in 2006 in USA, then reversed after protest filing... FDA rule against adding folic acid to food (Vitamin B9) was the reason, but Vegemites B9 is natural from the yeast. Later that FDA was utterly destroyed by energy drink companies anyway :P
I know theirs some foods that are banned in America and it’s usually for reasons like a certain chemical they don’t allow or food quality like stuff that needs to be fermented before eating. Like apparently theirs a drink in Ireland called Ire Bru that’s banned because of a food coloring not allowed in the US, Black Pudding is banned in the US for sanitary reasons, Haggis is banned in the US because the Department of Agriculture ruled against the eating of lungs. Things along those lines are stuff that get banned here.
@@Broomer52 Irn Bru is just orange flavored soda, like Sunkist. I think I've seen it at Walmart, but it seems like it wouldn't make sense to import...
people new to things like Vegemite and Marmite always put too much on whatever theyre eating because they dont realise how strongly flavoured it is. you need to spread it really thinly on hot buttered toast. also I saw some stupid tv show once where they were getting people to try foreign foods and they gave people raw vegemite on a spoon.
Poor winning son, his smile immediately gone after Bae said that xD Sasuga Bae, truly embodiment of chaos? Is it really banned in America? When they said America did they mean US or the entire America?
I looked it up, and apparently vegemite was banned at one point by the FDA, but then they did a complete 180 and said it wasn't banned, but only if you bought it for yourself. It was originally considered banned, because of an ingredient in it. But then the FDA said it wasn't reallly banned as long as you bought it for yourself, and didn't distribute it, if you were a business owner of some kind, I'm guessing.
Vegemite WAS banned in the United States for a brief time due to FDA rules about adding artificial Vitamin B9 (folic acid) to certain foods without approval 2006. However the US ban was reversed cause the Vitamin B in Vegemite is a natural product of the spread and not added... even then its not really imported, cause the US hate it, but at least ex-pat Brits and Australians can still get their mite! Even then at some point even the FDA rule was erroded cause seriously folic acid is in most energy drinks now.
It's not banned in the US, it's just that nobody wants it, so most places won't go through the hassle of importing it. I was actually able to buy a jar of it right off the shelves in New Orleans, since the grocery near me had a fairly robust imports aisle. I also got Tim Tams.
Well, I could nip over to the super market and buy a whole stack no problem. Not that I'd ever want to, mind you. I'd rather put ground-up mummy fingers on my toast.
The FDA and CBP never actually cared in the first place, some clown at Kraft Foods just claimed otherwise in 2006. Also, it's still readily available from Amazon or many supermarkets.
Tidak terlalu tau, karena daerah ku hanya ada minimarket. Tidak seperti Supermarket atau daerah pelabuhan lainnya And wait ?! You ARE indo Takamaru Kun ?!?
Wait it's not actually banned in US right?
Bro I hope not or I'm in hella trouble rn
Would be weird if it was, cause I remember getting some last year from a chain supermarket
Just an urban legend. You can buy it here.. if you can find it.
As far as google says it's banned on Denmark.
Edit: also banned inside jails because the yeast it contains can be used to make booze.
No it just goes by a different name here it's called marmite instead of Vegemite.

Bae was feeding Son with some banned food, poor Roberu...

I wonder what the folks in Japan would think of something like _surströmming..._

It's not banned here, just not that popular.
gotta run fast, i'm american and my local supermarket is selling vegemite to try to get everyone sent to jail if they buy any (it's not banned here)
True or not, "Vegemite is banned in " is something I would 100% believe.

I saw a jar in Publix once, so yeah, not banned.
Bruh moment
I doubt it's banned in America. Though if it was, it'd probably be because it wasn't salty enough lol
I've seen Vegemite sold at a world trade market... That was years ago though. And I am in fact american
"I've never really eaten anything this salty, and I eat popsicles made of soy sauce every day."
They should create Vegemite vs Marmite vs Gohan desuyo tournament arc
i like that eh
YOU KNOW something is crazy Salty when it Outdoes Soy Sauce in terms of Saltiness
Vegemite has the same amount of salt... as sea water :P

That is the wierdest way to vegemite your toast. It is not sunscreen.
Vegemite and Marmite are banned in Denmark, you can get Vegemite at the world store in the united states
If anything, I think more things are banned from America with how many things they put in food.
It was Denmark isn't it?
ACKSHUALLY vegemite is banned from commercial imports because the US only allows folate in bread/cereal
