Nice build-I like the trigger set up. One thing I did was cover the metal plate with thin plywood. I started catching more stuff then. Thanks for taking the time to make a video.
I like the trigger mechanism with the wire but don't think I would trust the pvc and the metal working together maybe make a slot for a piece of half Inch plywood.
I check my box trap twice once in the morning cause after night there cause they move around move, and in the after noon after wakeing up they search for food
Great trap, and like your truck too! I made a smaller version of the trap with a 1/4" thick steel door which I drilled a lot of holes in to get it to the correct weight for trigger sensitivity. Caught a chipmunk with it and released him elsewhere. Other traps I tried did not work. This one is reliable! You get one chance - & if the trap failes - the critters get wary of it and you must go to plan "B". Best one I've seen.
just finished watching all your stuff, you are doing great. your explanations are concise and clear, and your visuals are well shot. you have improved alot from your earliest vid. keep it up. blessings to you and yours.
May be a good idea to round off the corners of the sheet metal door so they do not cut into the PVC should the door drop unevenly repeatedly and cut into the PVC causing binding.
I think he said it was for squirrels and smaller animals. I can't see it surviving a raccoon. The trip wire would probably need to be replaced every time you had one in the trap and I don't think the door would keep the average raccoon in there for long.
I build your design I like it I didn't cut down the middle and left at the same size as the wood and it didn't really bother the way to the mechanism or anything and it works really good I just used washers to hold down the middle missing screws
Great video. I am planning to make a couple of these for skunk removal jobs. Do you have any idea what the tension on the treadle is? How much weight fires the trap?
I liked the PVC idea also the ring near door on the side of the box , inside & up left this Vid could be done in less than 5 mins max thanks , go ahead
Thanks for your video. It's very useful. Just a reminder for your safety: Remember to put your thick gloves and safety glassed on when you operate the saw. I feel it very dangerous.
I was just wondering what stops a raccoon from scratching the door to get out. It seems that if they go at it they may get the door up to get out. Perhaps a latch or something at the top of the door that falls went tripped. Just an idea. And I do like truck and it's color. I wish my Chevy Suburban 4x4 was that color of red. Forest green makes me look like a Forest Ranger on patrol. Keep the vids coming. Well done.
Great explanation. Outside of your bragging about your new truck, really great video. (can't say I blame ya, I brag about my wheels all the time too) Thx for posting.
Looks like a nice sturdy trap. My only concern would be with the door. That metal isn't very thick and a raccoon might be able to bend it or hit it hard enough to break the PVC guides (I have had raccoons tear apart the doors and back walls of expensive live catch traps). I would recommend that you put 2 small strips of wood on either side of the bottom of the door so that the animal can't get under the door and open it (could use the same system for guides), and something a little thicker might be a little more secure.
It was a nice build but i just seen a video of the same build and the racoon blew right out and through the door. The PVC pipe maybe smooth for the door but not strong enough. When I build mine I'm going to support it with a strip of that decking board behind the PVC.
I build them from 2x10s rip cut to 3/4" and laminated back together and use wire mesh. Trigger is connected with plain string. Works great. imageshack.com/i/pmpqZY0xj
nice job man i'm looking at building some of these for rabbits and i've got a design layed out for decapitating snakes and trapping the head. (i hate snakes)
I don't understand, why would they want to push on the plate that hard?you haven't shown why the animal would be tempted to push down on the plate my friend. I really wish you would have explained how the trap gets triggered. And not by you, the human pushing a stick on it.
Raccoon will work the door and lift it and get out. Need a latch on top. Half round pvc is too weak. Trap will be really bloody if it actually holds an animal and you get to dispatch it. Poor trap.

@ 3:09 starts the actual live trap
You're lantern and garage sale videos are great love them!!
Nice simple- plan on making one I like it 👍
Okay I got a really stupid question if your sponsored by DeWalt why don't they give you the tools instead of using Makita drills?

I made a version of your trap ( some changes) and it works perfectly. Thanks for the video.
I think he said it was for squirrels and smaller animals. I can't see it surviving a raccoon. The trip wire would probably need to be replaced every time you had one in the trap and I don't think the door would keep the average raccoon in there for long.
I done built something like that over the summer using a metal trashcan some wood scraps and a grill grate
Ingenious! Especially the trigger! Thanks!

I got the same Chevy except is gray and i had to do a LOT of work on it
OF COURSE
This the best trap i seen so far
Well explained and simple to do
Thanks!!

Pretty neat, & I liked the truck. Thanks for posting

Awesome video! Thank you!
Great explanation. Outside of your bragging about your new truck, really great video. (can't say I blame ya, I brag about my wheels all the time too)

ffemt602 Good points, we'll see what happens.
Let me know if you need/want any tips. I've been live-trapping for a living for going on 9 years now.
@@ffemt602 🙋♂️ i have a coon in my back yard now it on the atic 😑 time to do something i need to get him out of there quick ..
Very beautiful and interesting idea
I didn't know this was a plug for Chevy
Willi, this is too much truck for you! Stick with your Toyoder, Skippy.
Thank you for this system., I'll try to make a similar trap to catch a big marmot under my land ... I live in Canada near Drummondville.
nice build. I going build one.

How in the Heck did you find a 2000 in that good of condition? Good God, man you did well there!
Yeah it was a luck find. It's not perfect but for a 15 year old truck it sure is in good shape. Thanks for watching.
I love UA-cam comments.
Good one . . . Thanks for that .
Cool trap and nice truck, I'd be happy with it. I missed the photo of the trap at the beginning of the video :-)
***** It's supposed to be the thumbnail of the video. I changed it a while ago, it should have changed by now. Thanks for watching.

Nice de-tailed trap, I mean video
I’ve been catching cats and selling them to a local Chinese restaurant.
I've been catching racists and feeding them to a chickkk-fillay.
Hey! Are you an actor? I think you are/were.
This is the most simple trap I have seen! I will build one tomorrow and have CAT STEW next night!!! I hate cats!
awesome
I have to say there is quite a bit more wk here than a two minute job.
I know you are talking through it even so.....
waisted the first 3 mins of a truck suddenly lost interest in the video..
that is why I always fast-forward to where the building begans :)
we were all young once.
You forgot to mention the best part. Its 4x4. You Should take the chrome off and put on some larger tires!
Who cares about the truck show the trap build
I wanna make one to catch a baby pig haha. Also damn feral cats are annoying as hell
eh we got skunks
Sweet lift kit
Not interested in the car pal
haha, you can't even type 6 words without making a mistake and editing your comment. also this vid is 6 years old asshat.
Hello?
