Hey Espen :) I stumbled on your channel as someone just getting interesting in Bird photography. Spend my Saturday afternoon watching a bunch of your videos and I'm really enjoying them!
Espen very good explanation of high key shooting. Lovely images as well. I'm sure that many new nature photographers will benefit from your video. Bohemian Waxwings are one of my favourite winter birds.
Great job Espen, thank you for providing the details. I had never considered a higher ISO and pushing the exposure up a bit. I will try this my next time out.
great video Espen! been strucking out with waxwings this year unfortunally, took some very poor photos of them one morning from my balcony ( we have a large whitebeam just outside our apartment, perfect for starlings and fieldfare during autumn and early winter.) but havn't found them when I finally have time to go look for them, and when I don´t have time to photograph then sure there they are... haha. One day thou!
Awesome Espen! Was just thinking, high key is also a nice way to 'fix' dull grey/light skies... Your photos almost have a type of eastern painting look. I almost always shoot my photo's a bit brighter. Good way to save detail in the shadows also... But I kinda like that look as well. The red fox I got an amazing time with recently also turned out to be so much better with a slight high key look.... Looking forward to your next vlog!
Thank you very much Jeroen 🙂 I'd like to try to push it a bit further. Been very busy lately so haven't had much time to check out other UA-camrs, but will have a look at your channel when I get some spare time 👌🏻
Thank you Stefano :) That's what I'd like to know!?! 2 feet of snow is amazing! I was up in the Highlands of Scotland last week to photograph mountain hares, but sadly the snow is just not consistent in winter any longer.
I really love your shots, they look so artistic - practically like paintings. I’m so desperate to photograph waxwings but have been so far unlucky whenever I’ve gone to look for them 😞 Great video!
Thank you very much Mats! Really appreciate it 🙂 I use Viking binoculars, I think ED... You can check out the exact ones on my website www.espenhelland.com/my-photography-gear/ they used to be very expensive, but quite affordable now so good value for money 👌🏻
Espen, I'm a wildlife photographer too in North Lanarkshire, Glenboig. I'm gonna pop up to Dunblane on Friday to see if I have any luck there with waxwings. I have a big interest in birds some of my images can be seen on melrosephotographyimages.co.uk. If you're interested we could meet up one Friday to shoot together since you are close by. What app is it that you refer to, I'd be interested in getting that?
Hi, sorry missed this as UA-cam tends to hide comments with links in them until I review them. I've been in the Highlands last week anyways, how did you get on? The app is birdguides, I think it might be a paid subscription, but somehow I managed to get a free year. Nice photos btw!
Espen Helland waited around for about 3 hours with no sign of them. Think they moved on however plan B was Argaty Red Kite Centre which was good. I will take a look at the app, cheers
Im suprised some scally hasnt done a runner with your bag !! I always keep mine on me back when im out and about. Great vid none down south this year so far :-(

Great looking images!! Waxwings are stunning and these shots look like an Audubon Field Guide. Nicely done!
TroutBrookFarms thank you very much 🙂
I had no idea what a high key photo was, good to have a name for it :D Nice video and pretty pictures! :)
Thanks Gunnar! Very fun to experiment with :)

Thank you very much Stephen! Mine too :)
Very nice work Espen. That park looked very good. And the bonus.....no peeking into someones garden.
Yes! Thanks Pauline 🙂
Lovely images again. I havent seen a Waxwing for years so this was really nice. Good to see the Canon back 👍👍
😅 thanks Rich! They are great birds to see and photograph 👌🏻
Great images Espen, nice insight into high key shots!!
Thank you very much Andy!
Great job Espen, thank you for providing the details. I had never considered a higher ISO and pushing the exposure up a bit. I will try this my next time out.
Thank you Steve! Yeah it's good fun and can be a great way of creating minimalistic mages 👌🏻
You are just rubbing it in now aren’t you buddy 😂😂😂 awesome stuff 😉👌🤙
Lovely birds... more importantly beautiful images from the adventure
Thank you very much Ian 🙂
Beautiful Photographs. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you very much Paul!
Loving the high key shots Espen. They remind me of some Japanese/ Chinese paintings. Thanks for sharing. 👍
Thank you very much John!

Cheers Andy! Nice to have that outside your window! I'd like another go in the snow, but not much of that this year.
@@EspenHelland I feel you, have had record warm winter in sweden this year 😴🥵
Andys Outdoors Living sad times...

@@EspenHelland You're welcome! I almost watch YT on a daily basis. Have it on the TV in the living room. Prfer watching that over TV these days... :)
Loving the video, normally a supermarket car park shoot for Waxwing, good subject for high key
Camilla & I thanks! Yes, nice to not be in a carpark 😁
Awesome images, Espen! A great idea that many people wouldn't think about. Question: where's all your snow?? 😅 We just got about 2 feet of snow here!
Thank you Stefano :) That's what I'd like to know!?! 2 feet of snow is amazing! I was up in the Highlands of Scotland last week to photograph mountain hares, but sadly the snow is just not consistent in winter any longer.
@@EspenHelland That's such a shame! Hopefully you get some soon!
Nice pictures , tnx for sharing again 👌
Thank you 🙂
Nice one Espen, good to see you haven't fallen out of love with the 7d lol. Nice vlog & Love the look of the shots. Cheers Matey
Thanks Jeff! Was a bit weird getting used to it again, but didn't take long 😁👍🏻
I really love your shots, they look so artistic - practically like paintings. I’m so desperate to photograph waxwings but have been so far unlucky whenever I’ve gone to look for them 😞 Great video!
Thank you very much Meg :) Very handy that many people post locations online.
Great images and a good way to take advantage of an overcast day.
Thank you very much Brian 🙂
Nice to see the 7D mkll where it should be lol... Great images.
Russell Webb 🤣🤣 thanks!
I photograph some Osprey in the Everglades that came out like that. There was several flying around a nest. Didn't know what the look was called.
Sounds like a great experience!
What binoculars are you using? and great video Espen, you are one of my favorites on UA-cam
Thank you very much Mats! Really appreciate it 🙂 I use Viking binoculars, I think ED... You can check out the exact ones on my website www.espenhelland.com/my-photography-gear/ they used to be very expensive, but quite affordable now so good value for money 👌🏻

This is nice again espen....
Thank you William 🙂
I have had reasonable success with high key photography. Less so with low key. Any tips in the future would be most appreciated!
Good idea! I'll aim to make a video on low key as well 👌🏻
Hi where is the omd em1x?
Handed back to Olympus, was only on loan.

That's a shame, quite a few up here this year. I always keep an eye on it, but I think I'm in a fairly safe neighbourhood here :)
