@juicy jumbo nope! best lyrical song actually genius lyrics. And very underrated. But best song? Oh tough me in honey? Maybe? Strange currencies? There are good contenders out there.
I grew up with this song. My Dad used to play it often in the '00s. I knew every word by the age of 4. Thankyou to the uploader. This brought back memories :D
Brilliant drumming gave Michael the dance fever. Majestic performance by a band that had so much more intelligent news to report over a longer period of time than any other American band ever!
Im not sure which is my favorite. I love almost all their songs. I saw them the year of the Monster Tour. Ive loved them since they first atarted playing their records on the radio. No one in my circle liked them but me. We were the heads ,(pot heads) at high school. We all listened to Led Zeppelin, Ac/,Dc , kiss , Lynyrd Skynyrd. I was always a bit of a loner. I did then and still do love all kinds of music. Well no new music..seems the beat dsy sc care behind us. Ive been to so many concerts mainly hard rock but REM was so much fun. They sounded just like a cd. It was like this big party where everyone knew each other and liked one another. No arguing or fighting. I wasnt use to that. We always got on the floor and would push shove whatever to get as close to stage as possible. Then the whole concert yiou were pushing and shoving to keep you spot. Thst was many yrs ago. Those days are for sure over lol
I just want to thank you for what seems like years enjoying this video - thank you for posting it, HeidiGetel! All my facebook friends have had to listen to it many many times now .... i think because everytime i hear this version of this song i get inspired to tell all my friends something really important or something. So, thanks . . . . .i guess i should maybe click "subscribe" ?
enjoy it while warner allows it to be online...this is the last great stand of R.E.M. :-( After this they lost something...that chemistry was gone. RIP REM FYI I still love them and hope they succeed in the future
@capricious71 I have to agree. It's a great song I must say it is not a big surprise these guys would pay tribute to Andy Kaufman. Remember the great song Man On The Moon. Genius!!!
Arguably the single greatest performance they ever gave. There's an elasticity in the music that creates, uh, instant euphoria? I'd heard that Michael was not a fan of Letterman so maybe they put a little extra feeling into it. PS. Mike Mills was the best secret weapon in all of rock.
The recording software, mixing, echo, etc was all on point. And they were very well coordinated on this evening. I wish we had this level of playback for all their concerts :( certainly the best love video of them
Theres a new planet in the solar system there is nothing up my sleeves I'm pushing an elephant up the stairs i'm tossing out punchlines that were never there over my shoulder a piano falls crashing to the ground in all this talk of time talk is fine but I dont want to stay around what can't we pantomime just close our eyes and sleep sweet dreams me and you with wings on our feet I'm pushing an elephant up the stairs i'm tossing out punchlines that were never there over my shoulder a piano falls.
@capricious71 i agree but i always thought live versions had slightly more energy... maybe not these days and michael stipe never moves onstage anymore (not like he used to anyway)
Well it seems that you haven't heard the following lyrics: 'alright, stop, collaborate and listen, ice is back with a brand new invention' and i guess you've changed your mind before you even finished reading it....
Probably REM's best song
Agree
With the extensive catalogue of brilliant songs they gave us, seems ludicrous to pick a clear-cut favorite.

i am proud to say I WAS THERE at this performance in NYC! fantastic band, song, and experience. thank you for uploading this
"I'm pushin' an elephant up the stairs"
greatest song lyric ever!
The drummer in this version is great. Might be the best REM drummer not named Berry.

R1-D6 lmao
Back then when live was pretty good, sun shined bright, and grass was greener!
Brilliant drumming gave Michael the dance fever. Majestic performance by a band that had so much more intelligent news to report over a longer period of time than any other American band ever!
Che canzone meravigliosa, che gruppo ineguagliabile e che dire Stipe artista SPETTACOLARE ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Joey Waronker is a great drummer !!!!
REMfanfrance speak that truth son! Mad underrated.
Absolutely right. Brilliant coordination and timing. Oh to be that gifted!
These guys are all playing
The whole band knows exactly where they're at on the rhythm
Better times back then
Yes, the man of the moon is back. Great to see the band in this year, it´s funny to see the moving from Michael.
Una delle migliori canzoni che abbia mai sentito.
Canzone meravigliosa grazie Rem

I love how Letterman promoted Andy Kaufman's biopic... He really liked that guy, I read.

joey was their best drummer after bill berry, love his style!
👍
what can I call this?
Imitation of irony?
J. Phoenix--A.Kaufman--D.Letterman--Man in the Moon--R.E.M--The Great Beyond
Of course I found this video...
America's answer to Peter Garret:)

hahaha riiiiiight.
One of the keyboard players (the one in the tux jacket) is Scott MacCaughey. Who's the other one?
Keith Stringfellow?
Ken
Is Peter Buck the epitomy of cool or what?
Nah, Steve McQueen is, Peter Buck is quite close though.
Well it seems that you haven't heard the following lyrics:
'alright, stop, collaborate and listen, ice is back with a brand new invention'

Doesn't sound close to the studio version. Voice is strained. I am still for a good live performance of this song.
2 people like Justin Bieber.
you are very welcome :)))
