Been going to Sushimoto for years and this may be the first video I’ve heard it mentioned in. Such a gem! However it moved away the Melting Pot a few years ago and is actually just a little bit down the street.
How are y’all going to talk about the best places in Destin and where the locals eat, and not mention Harbor Docks? The best seafood and sushi in Destin, hands down, and a true locals spot! There’s a few others you mentioned that most locals will not agree with, but I’ve only lived here for 33 years, sooo…
First time visiting Destin, decided to eat at Backporch yesterday and it was truly disgusting. They served us raw oysters on a metal tray with no ice. Tray was room temperature and the oysters were warm to the touch. Yuck! Furthermore, the food was bland, drinks were watered down and too sweet. Tried Boshamps the next day and it was 100 times better. Can’t wait to try out other places from this list, hoping that they are just as good as Boshamps.
Stewby’s, Old Bay Steamer, Brotulas, Destin Garden Bistro. McQuires and the Donut Hole for their donuts and pastries only!!! Their key lime pie sucks! Been told that mine taste better, so do not order the key lime pie!
Locals do not eat at the Back Porch or AJs those are all over rated, poor food and that is where in the summer you are waiting on a table for up to 3hours. No, that is not local establishment locals go too. It’s a tourist trap!!!!! AJs is a drunk tank…. Why would you both send tourist to an unsafe over populated bar/restaurant that’s Fifthly? Lastly, the Senate Bean Soup is .13 for a cup with a purchase of an entree actually! If you do not purchase an entree they charge you the full amount for the soup! Dewey Destin on the Bay, off Calhoun Ave in Destin is the place you wanna go, not the actual restaurant on the harbor! Don’t get them confused when you go visit!

I'm from New Orleans and have been coming to the area every year since 1983. I feel like a local. We met a local on the beach a few years back who turned us onto the original Stewby's. We were tired of getting slammed by the tourist trap restaurants so we tried it. Thought we were going to have to sit on my tailgate to eat but lucked up on a booth. Very good food at very good price. We also used his recommendation for a place called The Shack on the harbor in Ft. Walton. Loved it! Thanks for your insight!

Boshamps is way overpriced and not good at all imo. I have had better fish from Ljs. It's pathetic actually.

Definitely a tourist trap list. Only actual good spots on this list are boshamps and McGuires. From an actual local….
