Just picked up a bottle of the Islay storm for 22$. My first bottle of scotch and I’m not disappointed, I was looking for finlaggan but they were out unfortunately. I love the smoky, bitter, briny flavor and it’s surprisingly less bitey to me than most bourbons I’ve had. Thanks for the great video!
Glad you enjoy it! That is a fantastic price, so that also helps with the appreciation. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, and I hope you have started the New Year well, cheers!
I buy mclellands islay for my cheap smoky single malt. It’s a decent enough dram, it’s youthfulness is covered by the peat, and it’s not a peat monster. It is supposedly young bowmore. To me it’s about 30-35 ppm compared to the 25 ppm of bowmore 12
I should have that bottle in this line up. I have heard that Bomore owns McClelland, so that seems right. I don't think I will buy it right now. Maybe in fall. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for this review. Now I am sure I will not touch peated scotch. I really think it will put me off. I am used to Speyside scotch. So I'd better stick to that.
This could be good in certain cocktails, a cheaper alternative to using more expensive offerings, but there's so many wonderful peated and smokey Islays out there (and a few non-Islays too!) I would rather save my money to put towards a better bottle. Glad to hear your thoughts on this particular whisky! Cheers, my friend! 🥃 Marian 🇨🇦
@@WhiskyNeighbour Hey, I'm finally able to walk and drive again! So even though we aren't allowed to actually go anywhere, still WAY better all round 😊 Enjoy the rest of yours as well!
great review Jon, I personally feel islay gets away with it more for being young and/or being blended, the peat almost masks a lot of the ethanol sharpness I get in young speysides for instance. my second black bottle arrived today so expect that comparison soon, im excited to record/taste it, great for the price, cheers!
I agree, but here there I a lack of depth that better whisky still has young. Youth is not the main challenge on this bottle for me. I look forward to your review!
@@WhiskyNeighbour I haven't tried it, I've been looking for reviews but they are few and far between. It's one of the cheapest bottles in the Swedish state monopoly stores so I might bite the bullet myself. Still comes to around $40 Canadian (260 Swedish crowns) so I gotta make my crowns count.
Interesting review Jon. I saw this when I was looking for Islay Mist 8 after watching your review of that, and TBH the reviews were very mixed. I'll probably give this one a miss. Cheers 🥃🥃
Great explanation and breakdown of this whisky. Nice comparison to the 2nd whiskey as well. Two reviews for the price of one, excellent my friend.
Thanks! Both more of a budget dram, but still good .
Thanks for sharing your review Jon!
Sipping on some Teachers and really enjoying it!!!
Cheers! 🥃🥃
Glad you picked it up and enjoy it! Cheers!
Great vid Jon. Just shows that the king doesn't always have to be single malt! Cheers buddy.
Totally agree. I love Single Malt, but this one just doesn't have enough going for it to recommend. Cheers!

Nice review! I have tried a different version before that didn't really do it for me (no finish).
Fair. I would say there is a finish here, but one that really does not excite. Very dry ash.
That is one I haven't seen. Cheers!
It's not bad, but not great either. Take care!
You've been spoiled by all the great scotch you've been lucky enough to try. Ha ha
No doubt!
Great review Jon. Going off your notes, this is reminding me a budget Laphroaig Select. It is nothing amazing but it achieves what it is trying to do.
I almost said Laphroaig here. It definitely reminds me of their style, without the character. Thanks for dropping in.

Well, once on your journey you should try a dram, but try something good, like Lagavulin 16. Just a dram, and go slow!
@@WhiskyNeighbour hmm, that sounds like a solid advice. 👍
Your review seems spot-on. It just got here in Jerusalem and I got a bottle to try. It's not bad, but basically meh...
Agreed! Thanks for sharing.
I sooooo love this one 🤩 great review :)
Glad you enjoy it. Very affordable here for a single malt.

@@onewomanswhisky So good to hear!
Would love to hear your thoughts on Smokey Joe. THAT has some solid Peat to it for a good price.
I would love too, but so far it has not shown up in my market. Perhaps one day!
@@WhiskyNeighbour Keep an eye on Total Wine. In my area not only do they have the proper bottles, they have 50ml ones as well.
@@TwiztedMatt1007 Very cool. Do you enjoy Smokey Joe?
Cant win them all hey Jon !! Lol
Nope. This was not horrible, but certainly will not purchase again. Take care.

Have you ever had the non-age statement Islay Mist?
Sadly no. How does it compare to the 8 year?

I will not be replacing it, the savings are not worth the mediocre results, IMO.
Nice Stuff Jon!! We need to share some drama Soon??!
Absolutely!!
Yes always look for those Ardbeg sales 🙌 Cheers Jon 🥃
Especially heading into Ardbeg Day!
Always coming out with great reviews thank you WN
