I believe that he is an engineer. a hafid al Quuran he is specialized in hadith from Madjna.. He did his phd on Ibn Taymiyya- he confronted Tony Blair with the lie about mass weapons in Iraq during a lecture , he is a great orator , examlple for how to speak up , clear and blunt when needed anti- sugarcoating. I admire his style and attitude; his series about the seerah of the Prophet is very very good. He is gem mashaAallah

Very interesting. As a revert, I just want to correct something: pork doesn't taste bad, I never liked pork ribs, but ham and smoked ham, for instance, or bacon, actually taste quite good. I used to eat ham sometimes, it was practical and tasted very good with noodles. Nonetheless, put aside the divine prohibition, it is a risky meat (can have parasites) and there is almost always nitritis added to ham, which is very detrimental for the health.
I think Muslims couldn't bear to eat pork as it goes against the divine order, not specifically because of the taste. My 2 cts. Otherwise great insights, I'm French but never went to Spain

Correcto. It can be very tasty and essential to many southern recipes because of its unique flavoring. The problem with the meat is the health concerns not the flavor or smell.

Masha Allaah. I was quite stressed about my college exams and my intention was to watch some videos to get ready for the exam. All of a sudden I saw the title of this video. I previously listened about this topic in a series lectures in Somali by a Somali Sheikh known (Sh. Mustafe Haji Ismail) some years ago. And then I clicked to listen few minutes to get the general idea and to refresh my memory. Masha Allah I couldn't stop watching the whole video and not only that I am going to watch this again and again in sha Allah.

Maybe good to know from a Berber who is from the same region as Abdu Rahman I:
    1. Berbers speak Tmazight (تْمَزٍغْتْ) and call themselves Tmazight. We don't call ourselves berber except if we talk in a Western language.
    2. Just like we are still called Berber, a word going back centuries (if not more) ago. We still call all Western people Romans and not European or American or whatever. The word Roman can also mean kafir, even though we have both words in our vocabulary.
    3. Abdu Rahman hid in Temsaman Morocco where his Berber tribe is from and where he hid amongst his family. Abdelkrim Al Khattabi, the famous anti-colonial fighter, is from a tribe that's really close to the city Temsaman around the area of the city Al Hoceima. Abdelkrim Al Khattabi is from the same category of anti-colonial fighters as Umar Al Mukhtar, Abdelkader Al Jazairi and imam Shamil.
A person from our tribe (which is also around the area of Temsaman) did an ancestry test and it came out that around a quarter of our ancestors were from Al Andalus.

I love your passion sheikh, but I lived in Spain for 7 years and I can pretty confidently say that the reason there are legs of jamón hanging in bars and terrazas is because jamón ibérica (cured pork) is essentially the traditional Spanish bar-snack. Wild boar are plentiful in Spain, Portugal and France and have been a staple for thousands of years, more so than cattle, as the terrain is too irregular for pasture. Other than that (and a few other forgiveable misconceptions) I loved the talk. :)

Salam, if you are interested in history, the textbook "Traditions and Encounters" is a decent place to start. It is a world history book written by two Americans, but they did an excellent job finding and utilizing sources (is. Not just US and Western Europe). The books "The Crusades through Arab Eyes" and "Muslims in Spain" are also good. Books by Hough Kennedy are well done too (esp. "The Prophet [SAAW] and the Age of the Caliphates"). I also recommend "Contending Visions" just to have a decent history of how non-Muslim Westerners have studied the Islam, Arabs, and the Middle East.
