Question. As a widow in Oregon, I can collect my SSI or my deceased husbands but not both making it almost impossible to make ends meet. Is this problem being recognized or addressed for the American people in need ?
Yes, we do, and it's absolutely critical that we do. I started planning for retirement in earnest at the age of 31, which was in 1981. At that time, I never thought that SS would survive political mismanagement, so pretty much ignored it in my plan. Because of that, every dime that comes my way as SS benefits is found money that I never thought I'd get. Since I was not counting on the US Gov to fund any part of my retirement, I worked very hard, invested carefully, and did pretty well financially. So, here we are, 20 years into a comfortable retirement with very few worries about money. I suggest that young folks take this attitude to heart and not count SS benefits in their retirement plans. If it's still there, they'll be pleasantly surprised. If not, then they won't be crushed by its "loss". Just a thought...

"THEY" know that the formula they use to determine the COLA does not accurately reflect the spending patterns of senior citizens, potentially leading to underestimating the true cost of living for retirees and resulting in a lower COLA increase than needed to maintain purchasing power...They could use the Consumer Price Index for Elderly Consumers (CPI-E) instead. But they don't. They also do nothing to deal with the shortfall in the 'trust fund'...they have several options that could easily fix that, but do they? NO...why are we silent...why aren't we screaming at them to 'knock it off and fix the problem' if YOU want our vote. The wheel that squeaks get the oil.

You can receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) at the same time. Social Security uses the term “concurrent” when you qualify for both disability benefits it administers. However, drawing SSDI benefits can reduce your SSI payment, or make you ineligible for one. That's due to differences in the programs’ intent and eligibility criteria. You will not get a higher monthly combined benefit than you would under the SSI program alone. Your SSI payment is going to be dropped by your SSDI payment to suit the absolute maximum SSI payment. If your SSDI benefit is under the current SSI monthly payment amount and you qualify for SSI, you'll get an SSI payment.

2.5 cost of living is a kick in our butts!!!!!! That’s about $25… won’t buy a nice steak!!!
I agree.
This depresses me.
Yes, it is.
My rent is going up $50/month in May!
There goes your COLA.
No tax on SS and RMDs.
when the cost of medicine[care increases this actually comes out to more like 26 dollars
Interesting! Thank you!
My letter showed my pay went up 2.5 but after deductions it shows I went from 1675 to 1780 on my SSDI somehow I think that's more than 2.5
Actually went up to 1716 not the 1780 that you quoted
Isn't there a point after reaching full retirement age that there is no deduction from earnings?
How about giving a raise just so we can live with no worries
I agree, but I'd also like the SS Administrator to be honest and not tell us there us how fortunate we are.
The big changes are to get peoples hopes up
Get their hopes up and then don't keep their promises.
If medicare goes up 185 there that goes don't have enough to live on groceries and gas rent all go up what you do pitch tent hope for best maybe lot out on street
The COLA is too small, Medicare increases are too large, and no one in D.C. cares.
I got a $5 raise
This tiny increases are ridiculous. What's even more ridiculous is they tell us the COLA will help with inflation.
I only got 6.00 lowest I ever recieved 😢
2.5% is an insult for who get a check!
I lost money i was getting 917 after my part a, b and d medicare premiums came out now I'm only gonna get 900 how do you lose money if they are giving me a raise
They told me i dont have enough points for SSD Butt i know others who NEVER PAID IN
Cutting off much of SSI will happen.
2025 -176,200 CAP not enough ! support social security 2100 a law proposed to raise the CAP to 400,000 by John Larson CT-D. This will make social security solvent for 66 years ! Put pressure on your Congress men and women and the speaker of the house Mike Johnson to bring this to the floor for a VOTE !!! 😮😮😮
I don't know what the cap should be, but $176,100 isn't enough.
But then medicare goes up which eats any increase
Yes, the Medicare increase hurts. Then again the COLA was so small any increase in Medicare isn't helpful.
That's the scam, in a nutshell.
the big change that i want to see is the end of social security being taxed.
Now, that WOULD BE GREAT!
I am 54 and want to retire at 59. How much do I need? I have done so many calculators.
That is a great question. Everyone’s financial situation is different, of course, but my overall financial strategy has always been to follow a budget, plan, spend less than I have coming in, save, and most importantly I strive to replace every dollar I spend, often some investment or a side business. I know this isn’t easy or always possible but being conscious of this goal is what is important. Big changes for 4% of retirees, what a screwing for 68 million retirees.
Yes, it is.
You really didn't tell me anything new, but I understand many people don't know.
Yeah, one of the other viewers said he just got the notice about his notice today. People get the news when they get it, I guess.
Yeah but Medicare raised its costs. No 2.5 not in the pocket but goes to the medical community.
Hey, does America really care about retirees? We don't have millions in savings. Let us all die, right?
Why don’t you?
What do you want the working taxpayers to do for you?
I believe they do.
Now, now.
Hmm.
Appreciate the video.
SS will increase dramatically under Nesara!
I'm somewhat familar with Nesara. Regardless, I wouldn't bet on it.
I’ll take the $50
Better than nothing, I guess.
I wish I was able to work, not well enough.

There should be no property taxes or should I say paymentto the mob bosses? I should be entitled to the dirt I made from
If they'd invested my money like I did no one would worry
Line they did 401 in 2008-9 n the bottom fell out n ever vying droped to zero for those who just retired
I made an investment and now I cannot get any part of it!!!!!
Am I eligible for SSI,SSA,along the with my SSDI? I'm trying to get my Section 8 Voucher Back, still have Not received a call from HUD.
What did congress get a 40% raise.
Why do Low? 2.5%? 😢😢😢😢😢
I know how they arrived at this paltry amount but it makes no sense.
Cola should be double!!!😮
At the very least. But, even that wouldn't be enough.
I paid into SS for years
My husband paid into SS for years. I can only draw on his because he is deceased
What happened to my SS that I paid? Are the politicians and illegals getting it?????
I will NEVER understand why this SS policy is in place. No one can convince me this is fair. A very good friend of mine is in the very same boat.
Thats PATGETIC
No big changes whatsoever. We’re already aware of everything you said.
Please read the comments. It’s apparent not everyone was. Thank you.
I only got $1 increase, not even 2.5%.
Yeah, this COLA is ridiculous.
Why dose no ever talk about how much they will take from our check for medical after a raise?
We give away billions to noncitizens and foreign countries, but screw Americans who worked and paid into ss for decades.
Yep! You'll get no disagreement from me.
Will there be any SS in 2025?
That is a good question. Let's hope so.
$50.00 is better than nothing. How about stop taxing SS income? It is a supplement, I would not want to depend solely on SS
