Week 5 of the Surrey Championship Div 2 saw the 1st XI travelling to the lovely Pixham Road ground in Dorking in the shadow of Box Hill. Not a great day in the office for Sanderstead, but some quality cricket from a couple of the opposition players.

keep up the videos: really like your content......appreciation from Buffalo, NY USA
Well hello Buffalo, glad you like Sanderstead CC TV.
As a retired club cricketer (Bedford Town, Windsor, Torquay and Farnham Royal) who has emigrated to a non-cricketing Far East country these videos are a very good antidote for the withdrawal symptoms of retirement. I now actively look forward to seeing how Sanderstead get on, though commiserations for the latest result. Some of the teams playing, including Dorking, are ones that I have played against at least once, though never got to Sanderstead, but wish I had. Keep up the videos and good luck for next week.
Glad to be of service Ray now you have found a corner of this world that doesn’t play cricket!!
Love the tone behind the comments on paying players. Seen the same in "amateur" rugby - it's a tale as old as time.
The passive aggressive tone of the moaning about the opposition pros is more English than that clubhouse 😂✌🏼Stiff upper lip 'n all that.
Made me chuckle 😂😂😂
As the skipper of a side that has no Saturday team and isn't in any league - I dread that conversation at the coin toss on a Sunday afternoon. The opposition captain says;
"A couple of the Saturday firsts are getting a game today because the game yesterday was rained off."
Then that 1 or 2 players proceed to take all the wickets and score all the runs against a team of players that have never got close to league cricket, only play for a laugh and are at least 3 levels of competence below them in skill - maybe with a couple of 13 year olds mixed in (Who will never want to play again after a couple of matches like this).
All this in a friendly game. No league points, no cup.
The other 20 players are just there to pay their fees and fetch the ball
It's part of the reason why cricket is dying on its arse at grass roots level.
That and big clubs hoovering up all the players for miles around and not releasing them to play for other sides when they aren't picked for the main club.
You get a dozen teenagers - mad on cricket - carrying drinks and walking the boundary week after week watching other players play - all desperate for a game. Meanwhile down the road, friendly clubs have folded due to lack of players.
A beautiful ground, and I particularly love watching the fieldsmen wearing proper caps in club colours
The dorking opener bowler with the arm band plays for Glamorgan now doesnt he???
Really enjoy these videos guys. I play my club cricket in Berkshire, and we would never consider paying anyone to play cricket for the club. That’s despite our 1’s competing in the Home Counties premier league. Good job sticking to that going forward!
we go again next week!
Shame was really excited to see how you guys got on at least there was some good passion from triky
Yes he’s got lots of passion and is bowling really well this year. Hard to believe he’s still only 18
We played there a couple of Sundays ago.
Got hammered!!
Lovely weather though!
Very good player Dan, taking the piss a bit in div 2 it has to be said.
Yes, though Dorking have ambitions to be a Prem club and they will need players of this calibre to get there - so the long term aim is good.
I stumbled on to this match video..
Love the English atmosphere... The Turf Wicket.. The Ground is Lush Green... Superb!.. Cheers! From the Sunny South, USA!
And a very warm welcome to you from wet & windy South of England!
@@SandersteadCCTV
Happy Friday! ... I'll be sure to support & follow your team on UA-cam... Cheers!👍
PS.. Our team regularly competes against teams that will sometimes flyover a few Windies (Jamaica, Barbados, Guyana, etc)Pros & current First Class players over
And it's fun to still beat them 'occassionally'... We also travel to Florida & Australia :)
Looks like the top order let their ego get the better of them. When you are outclassed sometimes you just have knuckle down and see it through. Some of those dismissals were from aggressive shots.
Totally agree - the boys will hopefully learn from this.
They definitely haven’t learned!
Their short leg was absolutely terrified every ball...
ashhh87 haha! Good spot, hadn’t noticed that.
2:55 nothing bought for satisfaction to my day!!!
There is something oddly satisfying about this
16:56 Abdul Muzzammil was not playing for free at Sanderstead @sanderstead CC TV
Nick Cole indeed - but he was an overseas pro and we no longer have him or any replacement.
Loved the dramatic gesture to win the game. Not very impressed by Sanderstead this time (we all have our off-days). Can't help feeling the Boxhill backdrop was the real star of the show. Best gain from Toronto.
Definitely agree re Box Hill - in fact I switched emphasis in the video from a cricket match to a travelogue!
15:44 JEFFAAAA....
Hey!!! I’ve played here! Amazing ground, a player called Toby is an amazing cricketer
Some serious side leggies alongside some wrong uns and flippers would have sunk dorking
1.54 looked plumb to me!
Nice
Top class club cricket i have to say that pitty that the batters couldn't deliver, but loved the aggression from Tricki...To my surprise some counties carrying shit old seamers bowling between 75-78 mph while only in this match i can spot couple of quality bowlers who can easily represent the counties around the country and off course increase the pace etc.
'Tricky'...what's the reason behind his nickname (it is a nickname, innit ?) I'm thinking maybe he's a magician during the week...
The Erasmus - guy - (Dorking opening batsman) - is he South African by any chance?...
That opening bowler was quuuuuick
Tom Whitton hi Tom, main thing is he was very very good. Hardly bowled a bad ball and an impeccable length. His pace wasn’t the problem....
Sanderstead CC TV very true, good insight
Sanderstead CC TV nice to see that subscriber count so high
So how come you played a different format? Surley with batting and bowling points playing timed cricket and if you end up batting 55 overs maybe more it would give an unfair advantage?
liamramsy good question - in this league, teams play each other twice - home and away - one game is a straight 50:50 and the other is a “100 overs timed game”. If you bat beyond 50 overs you simply have less time to bowl the oppo out - it’s all about timing the declaration. Not that we got that far today!!!
Sanderstead CC TV I have never heard of leagues playing like that before, the county cricket in Cheshire plays 100 overs but the team batting first can bat upto 55 if they want, but it's always the same format
liamramsy which club?
MountainyTen506 i play for lymm (well use too, work has got in the way) we're div 1 at the moment looking to go into the county
Have you ever played for sanderstead or do you just commentate and love the vids keep it up
Yes - I have played here since 1986
Triky looks true to his name, around 72 ish mph?
Vile Smurx don’t know how quick he is - maybe in the winter we get in the nets with some speed reading equipment. Will film it of course....
I reckon 75
Bit like tom Curran
Ive faced him bowling short at me on a quick sanderstead wicket. Wasnt a pleasant experience!!!
Olly Humphreys nah not that quick, 75 is around the speed of a decent county seconds bowler, ive seen people who bowl 75 and they are slightely quicker
Is this comp the same standard as premier cricket in australia?
No - it’s a few levels below Aus 1st grade.
@@SandersteadCCTV it looks very high standard to be honest, how many km/ph was that opening bowler bowling?
To be fair, you picked a game where the oppo had two guys who have played county cricket, and the bowler you mention now plays regularly for Glamorgan. He probs bowled mid-80s. Dan Douthwaite
Why does Simon start every spell from around the wicket for?
I’ll ask him when I can - see what he says
@@SandersteadCCTV sir You forgot to ask him?
Unlucky SCC. I know this feeling only too well.
Why was Jallen so far down
It’s tough but we’ve got lots of batting! Though I realise that sounds a bit silly having just been bowled out for 73...
Anyone else who has watched outside edge will see the work Dorking and think;
*PIGGY PEARSONS DIVORCED SISTER*
😂😂
Paying players is not in the spirit of the game, really annoys me, as some clubs can't afford to. My old club played an evening cup match a few years ago, and their opening bowler, bowling beamers, was non other than Chris Rushworth.
I’m all for paying overseas players to come and coach/play if they can make a big difference to the development of a club. But simply paying cricketers to play for a club that they other liaise wouldn’t is purely mercenary. If it helps, Dorking finished 3rd, didn’t get promoted and when the paid players moved on they were demoted the following season. The Chairman who paid for all this moved on and Dorking remains a great club
the 2 opening bowlers for Dorking were complete failures at Sutton and out of their depth.
The chap who knows plays professional cricket?
How normal paying club members live with paying legends in their own minds is beyond me. An over seas player who works for the club during the week and gives back, but not small time Charlie £1 a run merchants.
10:57 - what an arse...
7:15 short leg wouldve caught that if he wasn't shitting himself
Not sure that playing pros is equitable given you didn’t have any.
Just not cricket!!
Sanderstead pacemen....instead of bowling too many short pitch ones, should concentrate on indippers and reverse swing
Eesa ansari I like that - bowling in diapers!
@@SandersteadCCTV corrected typo
Eesa ansari the typo was better! Happy New Year!
Apologies if I am jumping to conclusions, but I get the feeling you're not entirely happy about the fact that the opposition had two paid professionals in their ranks...? 🤔
😂 was it that obvious! What miffed me most was the fact that a Div 2 side (which is actually the third division because there is a Premier division), should want to effectively buy themselves promotion by (allegedly) paying players who should really be playing Prem cricket. The irony is that it didn’t work - Other than for the pros, one of whom is successfully playing for Glamorgan.
Damn, got your arses whooped.... sounding a little bitter about the paid pros there haha
KerrAvon yes, a damn good stuffing. Not bitter about their top players - it’s good for our guys to play against them so they can raise their game.
KerrAvon @SandersteadCCTV I also got a bitter taste from the commentary? On to the next one... Love your guys' channel.
stop eating don’t the mic!
😂 No!
if all the players are english please apply for England places i am sure you would do better than the set of misfits we have now
Robin GSNR haha! Everyone’s available....
lol
my thoughts on cricket
“The Game of Cricket “
Twenty two yards marks this illustrious game
To defend there your wicket is the ultimate aim
But this must only be done with just the aid of a bat
And the hope you hear not the dreaded howzat
One batsman on strike and another stands the far end
While eleven defend the field and on each other depend
There intention that the batsman will be out with no run
And when just one then remains the fielder’s job is done
a batsman can be out in a number of ways
even with the first ball if it’s just one of those days
its the skill of the bowler and the batsman he can deceive
And to force him to play a ball that may swing, turn or weave
The bowler will hope he will edge then the ball
And will glance off his bat and to slips he will fall
A leg before wicket is another way the batsman is out
But this is up to the umpire to decide with no doubt
As the fielders raise their arms with an appeal of howzat
And the umpire deliberates if it was leg or the bat
Some decisions can be tough ones and not easy to make
As the match can be decided on the decisions he’ll take
To decide that the ball hit the leg when it would be hitting the stump
And those dreaded film replays can make him look a chump
But the decision is his and that all players will then stand
As to challenge is not cricket in this fair playing land
Another is the run out with all the drama that will ensue
But the umpire on this can be aided with a video to view
The replay can be slowed and if the batsman’s run out
But such technology to the purist is a move they all doubt
Is this fair play now decided by machine and not man
And should more inclusions be resisted where ever they can
In the nature of the game we’ll debate what we see
As we all stroll off to lunch and again for our tea
For is all part of this game and not given to change
And to many outsiders it can all seem a bit strange
How can you play the same match that can go on for days
And those paying for the day no result on the scoreboard at which they now gaze
But cricket is as much about leisure as a Sunday on the old village green
And just played for the day in a setting that is thought of as serene
The village rivalry will without doubt gives an edge to a game
And a sporting reaction that would to some be too tame
But the skills of the players are applauded by all
and a round of appreciation if their wicket should fall
so to all cricket fans from the young to the old
it is all up to us all what the future will hold
the new twenty twenty game is thought more exiting to see
but would we loose the skill of patience that is loved so by me
slogging the ball could damage the cat and mouse of this game
when its forgotten in the tests and for me that’ll be such a shame
but if It’s money is truly needed then we must see where it goes
and hope not at the expense of our cricket and into chaos now it throws,
“Howzat”

Wow - must have taken ages to pen that - well done!
