Hi! Thanks for your video! I have a very simple question that I've spent hours researching, and can't figure it out... On your parameter editor, you have the button to toggle the expression language of the node back and forth between Python and H-script. I don't have this button! Do you know why? I have the most recent version of Houdini (20.0.547) and I'm working with an Apprentice license. Do you know if I can manually dd this button?
@@MichelleGriffith I was looking at the documentations for houdini 20 here: www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini/hom/expressions.html It show that the script language menu choice should still be there but I do not see it actually being available. The other two methods of changing the scripting language still work by doing it globally through the scripting preferences in the edit menu or by changing a specific parameter by right clicking on a parameter with a script and change the language to python. I can look further in to this tonight or tomorrow. It might just be an unintended bug and we might have to put in a bug report. I hope this helps for now.
I looked more and haven't found anything yet. I actually have a zoom meeting with someone over at SideFX on Tuesday through my work at RIT. I will make sure and follow up with him on if he knows about the change.@@MichelleGriffith
So I spoke with someone over at SideFX this morning and they said: "its been intentionally removed. The expected workflow "RMB > Expression > Change language..." options." He also said: "Thank you for calling this out, our documentation needs to be updated too" So I hope this helps. That feature no longer exists in houdini. So you can right click go to expressions and change language on any attribute you would like to use python with or you can go to the Edit Menu > Preferences > Scripting and then change expressions from hScript to Python.
I've been looking for a breakdown of pyhton in houdini, great content sir, hope to see more. Would be cool if you could cover a bit on callback scripts, assigning actions to buttons on HDAs and overall how to use pyhton module in the "edit operator type properties / scripts" section. Anyway, great stuff, keep it coming!
That is awesome that this series is coming to you at a continent time. There should be a new video every day on python scripting in houdini for the rest of January. I hope you continue to find value in the video series.
That is a great idea for a script! I will include that! That would even be helpful for a contract I am working on now. Thanks. It will likely come at some point shortly after the first 10 days, when we are covering the very basics of how Python works in houdini, then start building more robust tools. If you have any more ideas you would like to see, let me know.

Let me look that up for you. I did notice recently that it is gone too in the most recent version. I will get back to you soon and let you know.
@@CGINerd Thank you SO much! I've been pulling my hair out about this.

Thank you sir. I've been using Houdini but It's been a week since I started to code with python and this what I've been looking for.

Cool series, stoked to see more :)
Awesome! I am excited to go through this series, too. Let me know if you have any areas you would like to see be focused on.
Thanks Vro for this playlist.
You are very welcome!!!
is a Vro a "visual artist bro"? lol
This is the course what we really need! I hope I will understand how to load folder textures at once. not by picking up one by one
