They made a B-Side produced by Trrent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails called "Counting Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums". A banger too, I actually knew that one first and when I heard Pet for the first time I was like wtf? Love 'em both.
Nice reaction, Sceez! I agree with your take. They telling us to “go back to sleep” and not wake up to the reality of what’s really going on. The sad thing is a lot of people would rather be sleeping. Love APC❤
The whole album "Thirteenth Step" is about Maynard's addiction to opiates, the fallout of years of abuse and the toxic relationships formed with other opiate addicts, and eventually his recovery from drugs. The album title is a play on the idea of 12 step drug recovery programs - the thirteenth step is the first step after the twelfth step. This song deals with someone he's close to trying to keep him on opiates. "Go back to sleep" is a reference to the sleep inducing nature of opiate abuse. When you see the whole album with this understanding, all the lyrics make sense. All the songs are amazing, but "Gravity" is particularly beautiful and hopeful with lines like, "I choose to live" and "I am surrendering to gravity and the unknown". He is not getting "high" anymore so he's letting gravity bring him down to earth where his future is unknown. I recommend listening to the whole album. It starts with "The Package" which is clearly about going to score drugs from a dealer. I think every song on this album is about addiction and recovery. It's heartbreaking yet hopeful!
Great track. I always put on A Perfect Circle when I'm cleaning the house. Imo, you nailed the interpretation. There's a remix and a video that goes along with this too.
Nice reaction, Sceez! I like your take. I’m not sure exactly what it’s about but I’m thinking you’re right. I like the idea of “go back to sleep”. Implying we don’t want you to wake up and see what’s really going on. Love APC ❤
