96 rwhp wow ... thats a lot of POW from 1 cylinder lol do you guys use the stock rod? and how modest is this guy "its just home built" lol, its absolutely beautiful, amazing work could be sold as a factory kit. Amazing work guys love it. I get goose bumps thinking about turbo's that are breathing freezing air temps and snow on intercoolers that's just heaven on earth!
Haven't made any comparison tests. TS is an awsome kit but we think we have some inovation in our design. For those who want to build your own snow bike kit, we hope this will encorage you to take the step. KTM 500 is a nice bike. Lot of HP and torqe. On downside, low prm limiter. High reving engines can be good but the 500 delivers enough power. The KTM 500 is my firts pick. Bougt another one, a six days edition, just for spare ;-)
SORRY FOR ALL THE QUESTIONS HAKAN, BUT HERE IN AUSTRALIA GOLD COAST, NOBODY CAN HELP ME WITH ANYTHING, TWO DYNO TUNERS WONT EVEN TRY AND TUNE MY BIKE BECAUSE THE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO. VERY STRANG TO ME BUT THAT IS AUSTRALIA, AS SOON YOU HAVE SOMETHING DIFFERENT THEY DONT KNOW. YOUR MY ONLY HOPE.
Christina Ciko Nice to write to someone half way around the globe;-) Okay, it's not easy to get help turbocharging a single-cylinder motorcycle. There are not many who done it and got it to work properly ;-) There are many people on the web, giving advice without having any knowledge of the subject. I built the whole turbo system myself but took the help of MCX to get the right fuelmap. I have no knowledge about fuel software but MCX helped me to adjust the correct AFR readings during the dyno run. Bought MCX own piggyback fuel injection system so they could easily adjust the right fuel map. Haven't any knowledge in other fuel systems and the software suck as rapidbike, Dynojet etc. I would recommend max 0.5 bar boost. Do not know the compression ratio of a 690, but believe it is equivalent to the KTM 500 11.8 :1. Hope your bike has fuel injection since it is much more difficult to turbocharge engine with carburetor. You should run on race fuel to minimize the risk of detonation. Pump gas will require a custom made Low comp piston to boost reliabaly, probably 9:1 in comp ratio. Havent made any adjustments in ignition timing, running stock ignition... You have to reinforce the clutch. I run with double bevillning springs. Not sure what type of clutch is on the 690 but a stock clutch will eventually slip. If you're having problem with blown head gaskets, you have to get stronger head studs.
HI, GREAT VIDEO. IM PUTTING A GT 22V TURBO COMPRESSOR AR 53 TURBINE AR 64 ON A KTM 690 2007 SUPERMOTO. I HAVE MADE EXHAUST AND TURBO MANIFOLD. TURBO IS MOUNTED JUST BEHIND FRONT WHEEL. I AM STUCK ON PLENUM SIZE, I WAS THINKING 1 LITER SHOULD BE SUFFICIENT???? WHAT DO YOU THINK OF MY TURBO SIZE? AND WHAT SIZE DO YOU THINK I SHOULD MAKE MY PLENUM? ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT. THANKS STEVE
From my experience, a big plenum is very important on a single cylinder engine. I used every space avaliable to fit a 3-4 liter plenum. Hope that your front mount layout will work. It can be a little tricky as pressure pulses close to the engine can lead to high backpressure or turbine surge at low load. I believe rear is better but harder to fit if you want to run wheels and not snow.
HI HAKAN. AN UPDATE TO THE KTM 690 TURBO... I FOUND 2 DYNO TUNERS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN TAKING IT ON. THE FIRST ONE WANTS $10,000 TO PUT A STAND ALONE COMPUTER AND REPLACE THE ORIGINAL ECU, THAT IS OUT OF THE QUESTION. THE SECOND DYNO TUNER WANTS TO PUT A POWER COMMANDER ($500) AND SEEMS TO THINK HE CAN TUNE WITHOUT THE USE OF SECOND INJECTOR. WHAT DO YOU THINK HAKAN, IS IT POSSIBLE TO TUNE WITH JUST 1 INJECTOR???
Why go for stand alone? Looks to be horribly expensive. OEM ECU works just fine! I use a piggyback fuel controller and injector. I know some turbo snowmobile builders use stand alone and larger injectors. Maybe it works. I dont have any experience of that but I guess the standard injector will not deliver enough fuel.
HI HAKAN, STEVE FROM AUSTRALIA WITH THE KTM 690 TURBO BUILD. I TOOK YOU ADVICE ABOUT THE BIG PLENUM, I WAS ABLE TO FIT A 7.5L WATER CAPACITY PLENUM. WHAT SIZE 2ND INJECTOR DID YOU USE HAKAN? IM MAYBE 2 WEEKS AWAY FROM THE DYNO. VERY EXCITED. THANKS STEVE
Hi Steve. Nice to hear about your build! My extra fuel injector is a Bosch. The colour is blue and that colour code tells the fuel delivery capacity. MCXpress helped me to choose the right size of fuel injector. What fuel controller are you using? Please post a link of a video of your build in this comment section ;-)
Whats up Steve? Any progress of your turbo KTM build? Currently on my second build. Improving fueling issues on the 2017 bike. Conrod didnt seem to handle 0,7 bar boost. Will make a stronger custom made conrod.
HI HAKAN STEVE HERE, SORRY FOR LATE REPLY, INTERNET WAS DOWN. I HAVE NOT YET MADE A VIDEO, BUT AS SOON IT IS COMPLETE I WILL MAKE ONE AND LET YOU KNOW. I LOOKED AT THE BLUE INJECTORS YOU RECOMMENDED BUT THEY VARY SO MUCH!! DO YOU KNOW WHAT CC OR HAVE A PART NUMBER??? WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE SIZE OF THE PLENUM I MADE 7.5L, TOO BIG OR IS IT A GOOD SIZE??? FUEL CONTROLLER MIGHT BE MOTEC OR HALTECH. LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING FROM YOU HAKAN. THANKS STEVE.
Christina Ciko I'm not sure of CC Numbers. The injector is light blue. Have googled it and by looking at the colour the number might be 0280155715 but it may be wrong. I'm impressed that you've been able to fit a 7,5 liter plenum and I think no plenum is to big. Small plenums are not able to equalize the pressure pulses that occur at the air intake of the throttle body and will end up in bad performance.
Hi hakan. Lovley to hear from you. I got the ktm going, starting running ideling boosting perfect. The only problem was it was leaning out at 3000-4000 rpm. So if you gave it a quick rev at idle it would sit at 3-4 rpm for 5 secons then slowly drop to idle. Apart from thisit was excellent. The problem was fuel pressure. It took me 3, 20 minute rides figure out the problem, by then i melted the edge of the piston intake side of piston. I rebuilt it all, removed fuel pressure regulator from tank and now no more leaning out at 3000- 4000. I was adjusting fuel with tuneboy software but made no difference at the time due to fuel pressure. I just finnished it last week so have not ridden it yet. Maybe tomorrow. It failed because of me. No one to help. So it is all trial and error. Nice to hear from you hakan, ill let you know what happens.
Christina Ciko So what kind of fuel system did you end up choosing? Currently riding my second 2017 turbo snowbike. Works really fine, boosting 0,5 bar and completely stock motor! Just over 90 hp... Look at my channel and you find the dyno run. Currently having an issue that its runnin rich with no boost. That feels akward to me as the motor would perform the same at zero boost. Full throtthe its awsome, but at no boost its sputters and misses more like no spark or running lean. Have tested with a lambda guage and it shows on the contrary that its running ritch at low speeds. I cant figure it out the glitch. If I wont figure out the problem, I will mount a Power Commander to moderate the OEM fuel injection system. Not the ideal plug and play piggyback fuel system that I made on my prevuios bike....
HAKAN THANK YOU FOR YOUR ANSWERS. I DECIDED TO GET A PRESSURE ACTIVATED SWITCH $94. IT SWITCHES ON AT 1.4 PSI. I WILL GET THE INJECTOR YOU RECOMMENDED AND CONNECT THE WIRES TO THE STOCK INJECTOR THEN TO SWITCH. THE OTHER END OF THE SWITCH WILL CONNECT TO BOOST GAUGE LINE, ONCE BOOST REACHES 1.4 PSI THE SWITCH WILL ACTIVATE THE SECOND INJECTOR. I ALSO HAVE TUNE ECU PROGRAM I CAN USE. I BROUGHT A WIDEBAND AIR FUEL RATIO GAUGE, SO HOPEFULLY I WILL TRY TO TUNE MYSELF WITHOUT SPENDING TO MUCH. NOT SURE HOW THIS WILL WORK, BUT I AM INTERESTED TO KNOW HOW WELL IT WILL TURN OUT. YES YOUR RIGHT, THE PRICES I HAVE BEEN QUOTED ARE RIDICULOUS! HOW MUCH DID YOUR PIGGYBACK FUEL CONTROLLER COST YOU HAKAN?
I have never heard of any turbo EFI system you´re planning to use. It's more complex than you might think. The amount of fuel needs to be delivered very precise corresponding to boost pressure and rpm. Not familiar with all types of fuel controllers. Have read of something called rapid bike but not sure if that would work in a piggyback layout. There are more manufacturers of similar controllers. The controller I'm using is made by MCX and is made specifically for turbo application. I think I payed $500 just for the controller. Not sure if MCX sells these to Austraila but you find MCX web page here www.mcx.se/
Nice build! For just being "homebuilt", it looks very professional. Thanks for the video tour of this sweet machine!
Your English is fine . nice build .
Impressive "home project". Very slick, nice work!
Great video!! The work on the bike looks amazing.
Friggen brilliant on the keyless shaft!
What a piece of art! Looks very nice :)
Såg ju galet välbyggt ut för att "bara" vara hemmabygge :) Snyggt!!!
Your English is very good. my English was really bad if I should speak English so no one would find out. but that the snow bike is very cool
and I live in Finland
Your use of the word "PLENUMN" is very good . Keep using that word . You're doing well .
Nicely done!
nice work!!!! im on my way building a snowbike too.... for this season i just bought me a kuve for the front and mitas c12 snowweels ...
Hope to see a youtube video of your build on youtube soon ;-)

Thanks Freeflyer. Using stock rod. The ony modified on the Engine is piston, studs and clutch. Still running strong!
that looks so sick
Love this
Mycket snyggt gjort!
thing looks amazing how does it compare with timbersled? been looking into getting a snowbike but not sure what kit or bike to go with

vad är dedär för ljud han gör? :) 3:52
Absolutely fantastic engineering. Im so impressed. How much for track system for 1999 kx 500
And sent to Canada
This is a home build project and not for production. All my builds are prototypes ;-)
Thank you for the reply!
Nice job
im going ti try it
Hi great video looks amazing. any chance you would sell the directions parts list etc... on how to build that just for my personal use?
+Gabe5325 Look at the build thread on Snowest forum, the link is in the description. Blueprints and cutting files can be downloaded there.

how does it work now??any videos on deep snow? great build anyway lot of effoerts put in ,thumbs up;-)
Have moved on with a new improved design. Here's a link to my latest build thread on Snowest forum www.snowest.com/forum/showthread.php?t=407962
thanks very much for your answer;-) great job done with the bike, looks awesome;-)

Såg riktigt coolt ut!
Finns det någon butik i sverige som säljer sånt till säg fiddys?:)
+Adam Dalsheim Om det fanns skulle det kosta mer än hela fiddyn!
nice
Ride it?!??!?????
måste säga att det ser tuffare ut än TS. ;)
Jag vill ha den
nice
