James Swanson is wonderfully articulate and knowledgeable. Listening to his lecture is a pleasure.

Lincoln stated that slavery was wrong and indeed it is. However, I've read on several occasions ( look it up ) that he did not believe blacks were equal to whites. He rejected the notion of social equality and held to the view that blacks should be resettled abroad I am not, or will not argue that point. I am simply stating that is what history records.

Robert Brown its a historical fact that Lincoln "CHANGED" people do. After Gettysburg, Lincoln had a drastic spiritual transformation. He became a real believer, in the Lord Jesus Christ. People that hate Lincoln, bring up his early political philosophy. They never talk about his change! After Gettysburg Lincoln started to quote scripture, not because he was trying to get religious people on his side. He really believed. He realized the south was biblically wrong. All insurrection and revolution was wrong.(acording to Romans chapter 13) (kjv) Including the american revolution.

You obviously no nothing about how politics works? Lincoln was a very polished politician. Do you think he could’ve been elected dog catcher, if you spoke his true views on slavery?? He had to always phrase his comments on slavery, so as not to scare off the important politicians that could make him President. It’s after he was elected, that he could slowly speak his personal truth about slavery and now have the power to do something about it. It blows my mind when uneducated people say, I heard Lincoln say this and that about slaves. Lincoln spoke his mind freely and made the changes that needed to be made in this country about slavery after he became president. That’s when he had the power to do it, not before!

@@stephensdygert7600yes yes he saw the light in the b i b l e is the book for me and all that nonsense and you believed all of it didn't you? I don't like or dislike Lincoln he's just another old dude that's been dead for over a hundred years my point is if you believe that oh he had an epiphany and became a Christian and he changed his ways then you're gullible.

Just started reading Bloody Crimes. Already, I can tell it's a page turner. When you have a lifelong obsession with Lincoln, be careful, it can direct your career, in a good way. So glad so many are reading Swanson's books.

This guys talking about Lincoln’s heartbreaks in his early life. Talks about Ann Rutledge first. What about losing his Mom when he was a boy? Iam sure this had an impact on him his entire life? If your going to bring up facts, get them all on the table.

Robert is correct that Lincoln likely didn't believe in racial equality in the 21st century sense, but is incorrect that Lincoln "held fast" to recolonization of African Americans. The strong abolitionist wing in Congress blocked those efforts, and Lincoln gradually abandoned them.

One could say that, like Davis, Lincoln for too long gave place to ineffective generals.

Wasn’t Davis already President? During the Pierce administration, Davis pretty much called all the shots and Pierce obeyed. 😂😂

Not true; a myth propagated by Edwin Stanton.
