Yes, so glad to hear this again. When I saw them at Nicky Tams in Edinburgh in 76/77, it was one of the best Edinburgh gigs that I'd been to. I had been deeply troubled that romance was dead in popular music but this song set a new benchmark with its poetry and sensitivity.
saw them in the 70's and even have a single I bought on one of the gigs....trying to remember what the b side was......Great nights in the Scout and the Tav....all sadly demolished now... an irreplaceable era
My husband and I were just talking about this!! He lived in Peterson House, Roseangle in 1976. He used to go to Laings Hotel to see Skeets - they used to finish their set with a version of the Allman Brothers, Jessica. He also saw them support Be Bop Deluxe at the Caird Hall in 76 after the original support band - The Steve Gibons Band - had to pull out because Steve Gibons had got in a fight the night before. Shithouse door used to be introduced as "A Teenage Lovesong"!
I have had this in my memory banks after one hearing in the 70s! Now ..... Here it is on the best thing on the interwebbynet thing UA-cam! Fucking wonderful! My band, Parker's Bannd worked everywhere in Dundee in the 80s - Dundee is the best place for appreciative audiences anywhere! Some of the best times ever! The Underground, Lochee United, The Admiral, DFC, DUFC, Forry's, etc etc
I mixed sound for these guys in '78 at The 100 Club on Oxford Street. They opened for Magazine. The audience was there for Magazine, and were not terribly receptive to Skeets.
Glad to hear from you Roger, I remember these days but not what I did yesterday. Oughton's & The Stagecoach still fresh in my mind as well. I mean the venues not who we saw right enough!
Wasn’t there a version remixed for radio as street house door? My brother in law and I were talking about it the other night and he said he’d heard it and laughed his head off because it didn’t work as a lyric given nothing else changed. I’d never heard it so anecdotal for me via the brother in law. Great tune though, teenage memories of listening to it in my mates bedroom for the first time, Frankie Faulkner - RIP - uncle of Kyle. RIP Michael Marra too.

I was looking forward to seeing Steve Gibbons, but really Skeets were better.
