When they say 3 per season, do they mean if they wear out they have a max "new" turbo limit, or do they mean they can only turn them on 3 times per season
That's not true at all though.. Okay, so basically each driver has a turbo-button on the steering wheel that they can push to go incredibly fast for 15 seconds. Each driver - or more specifically each car - are only allowed to use the turbo-speed up to a maximum of three times each season. Note that the rule is that they can only push the turbo-button up to three times. Meaning that if a driver deactivates their turbo-speed manually before it's automatically deactivated, then they have consumed that turbo-speed charge - and can not activate it again to use up the remaining seconds. Thus the teams will often try to use it tactically on tracks where they use the full 15 seconds of a turbo-speed charge. If there is a very long straight for example, that would be a track where the teams would tell their driver to use a charge. This is actually what happened in 2021, when Max beat Hamilton in the final race of the season, becoming the world champion. Red Bull, Max:s team, didn't know that he still had a turbo-charge left, as they thought he had used it in Bakku just as his tyres blew up. Max however, knew he never pushed the turbo-button when that happened, and decided to keep it a secret from his team. He was afraid of Mercedes spies in the team, who could use that info to their advantage. The reason that he won the final race in 2021 was that Hamilton and Mercedes didn't know that they needed to take Max's turbo-speed into account, so when he suddenly used it they hadn't done enough to make sure that they could win anyways! This got Mercedes so mad that since the 2022 season, no team or driver are allowed to lie about, or hide, how many turbo-speed charges they have left to decieve other teams!

3 Units, if one blows up or malfunctions, they now have 2 units for the rest of the season...
