Rustic Swedish Log Cabin | Hunting with my Dog

- My Story:
When I graduated high school I sought a big challenge in life. To alone, with only simple hand tools and raw power, build my own traditional off grid log cabin by hand from the materials of the Swedish forest. I film everything myself and edit these videos so you can follow my journey and hopefully learn as I do. I have no earlier experience in any of this, just a visualization of what I want to achieve and willpower to learn and improve everything necessary. So I enjoy reading good advice in the comments. Enjoy!

in addition to his incredible woodsman and carpentry skills, it is easy to forget he is setting up all of the video shots as well. He makes it seem as though some hidden film crew is taking all of this video. Think of the time that it takes just to set up a seven second piece of video. What an awesome, talented young man.
A golden touch indeed.
Ironically that's the part that takes me out of it. No shade to the man, i just cant help but picture him walking all the way, setting up the camera, walking back, and then walking to the camera again like its the first time.
@@chand911 I do understand that feeling. However, what is the alternative? He had no dedicated cameraman at his disposal. Until we have autonomous mobile robots capable of following voice commands with incredible AI abilities, it must be done this way. The result is a professional looking production showing the step by laborious step process of building a magnificent cabin pretty much as it has been done for many centuries. That cabin may stand for a century or more. I prefer to look at it as a beautifully done documentary.
And advertising all the various changes of clothing. The different camera angles would be done with multiple cameras.
@@photoguy73 it's a work of art, perform piece, documentary, etc. So many things & so many talents. Beautiful Job!
I think Erik was getting worried that having an insulated floor AND a roof might make him weaken! So he went to sleep in a cave, just to keep it real :-) I love these videos so much.

Lighting a campfire in a small cave seems like a good way to pass out from lack of oxygen and die from smoke inhalation, unless there's something I missed 🤔

@@Sheghostly hot air rises, including smoke through cracks in the roof, that's just the conclusion I reached
For all of you who do not speak and read Swedish, the article in the paper he put under the floor was about him.
Thank you!
Cool! I thought it was to simply let know the date of his handiwork for generations to come.
Wow. Incredible 💕 I love that
I'm guessing, just from context, that the headline also stated that he is 20 years old as of publication

The shoeless edge trimming. Just like I would do it. Except for the snug fit and the part where you didn’t lose a toe. Love the videos!
Ha! Was just at that boy coming to the comments to announce how a man, in socks, carving with an axe 8 inches from his toes is a sign of a guy who knows what he’s doing!
The biggest flex of the decade.
Curious about tight fit also.
Shoeless trimming, makes you think extra hard about being precise.. (or something 😂)
I have 8 toes cause I tried doing that 🤣
My father was a master carpenter...and he would have been AMAZED at what a beautiful cabin you built, your precision with an axe and the entire way you went about it. He was a man who handled tools the very same way, it was incredible to watch him build something on his land that I'd not seen because he did huge commercial construction jobs so to finally get to witness his talent was such a gift....and Erik has so much of what it takes to be the absolute master of builders. Great job for such a young man.
You are not "surviving" in the wild, you are living.
So cool!

Erik you are an exceptional young man . I have thoroughly enjoyed watching you build this cabin . You are a true craftsman .
Good to see you're wearing your safety socks.

I enjoy a few of the comments almost as much as the videos themselves. 🙂
I find it somehow extremely interesting, that the only words he has spoken through the entire series so far, are to the fire as he pleads with it to continue burning.
It is amazing to be watching this whole process, I can’t believe how far along it’s come! You’re so inspiring.
Are you planning on occupying it?

My father built a log cabin in the mountains of SE Australia, for his father, in the 1930s. It was nowhere as grand or well made as Erik's fine cabin, but it did the job. My brother and I rebuilt it with hand tools and logs from the eucalyptus forest in the early 1960s when we were university students. Over the years other cabins have been added as our families grew; five generations of our family have now visited the huts, for almost 100 years. They are more simply constructed than Erick's cabin as Australian forests are mostly hardwood and not as easily to work by hand as the Swedish conifer forrest. That said, Erik odyssey is a magnificent one and he has my utmost respect. Few young men have the drive, imagination and respect for the land and the old times as he seems to have. Well done Erik!
Wow, you are giving your dog Royal treatments with such fine wool blanket and a chewing bone, nice Eric👍⛺🌲
It’s incredible how my body mind and soul are pulled toward these videos. It’s like a spiritual calling reminding you how you should be living.
Most entertained I’ve been in years, and I believe he only whispered one word. “Yes” when he started the fire. BRILLIANT!!
Erik, I can't describe how edifying it is to watch your journey and all the hard work you did to fulfill your goal! Thank you for sharing this with the rest of the world.
I just have no words, I've been watching you from the beginning make your house with everything by hand you have no equipment just very few people do that ,you do it with a lot of work, brother, I wish which will make your loved ones smile and be inspired. Congratulations, and survive only in the Balkans I personally can't do like you
bro very good I wish you much success in life let your friends be faithful and your family be healthy and happy.Greetings from Bulgaria 🙂
seeing you slip the newspaper article under the flooring gave me goosebumps. you're a legend!
Everytime I think it can't get any better and more beautifull you manage to prove me wrong. Also it calms me so much to watch your videos, with all the sounds of nature, walking, fire... Love it!
Isn't nature the best? Seriously, it's such a stress reliever!
Your documentation of your journey is pure and honest. You show us your struggles as well as your inspirational perseverance.
Sweden is such a beautiful country. Because of my job, I spent some time near Skelleftea a few years ago, it was simply amazing. Greetings from the Czech Republic.
The gov is absolute shit
красивая природа )))) и домик классный !!! молодец Эрик , сильный и целеустремленный... и умеет все... и один ведь ...
И...главное, молодой ещё, а столько умения и трудолюбия.
The sheer precision this man has with a hatchet or axe from building this cabin is insane. for reference i struggle with splitting a 2 inch wide twig
Yes its truly amazing.

As if the cabin alone isn't Mind-blowing! Your videography skills and sound management are superb, such an honor to be able to witness such a great outdoorsman. Peace.
You're actually going out and making this fantasy many of us have come to life. Much respect and admiration.
Beautiful Erik... You fill my heart with admiration and joy. Thank you for inviting us into your precious world. Peace.
Honestly this is the only channel that I am eagerly waiting for a new movie to come in. Peaceful beauty of nature.
Eric brings new meaning to; if it don’t fit force it! Love the floor, I would love to smell the inside of your cabin, I also love the barn, the animals have a very nice place to stay out of the weather. Your pup is coming along nice also, he is a beautiful dog.
Greetings from Finland. I really enjoy videos which relate to traditional woodworking. Here in the Nordics our forefathers truly were master woodworkers and most of the time they used little more than an axe and a knife. I love how you also seem to use your axe whenever possible in favor of more modern tools.
I'm Brazilian, I've been following your construction since the beginning, it's helping me a lot during the pandemic.
This person's will and determination is something we'd have to admire, as he is using his time on making a literal house from scratch
Your shots, the magnificent sounds of nature, cave camping, your lovely pup - plus, all of your hard work and grace as you share these moments - glorious!! I raised 2 boys (now in their 30's), and am a very proud mom. Your parents did a fantastic job! Best wishes, I forsee many good things in your future😊👍🙋♀️
I’m new to your videos but I can see that the skill set you have is Grandfather taught. What a gift you have and I can’t even imagine your grandfathers incredible ability.Just beautiful to watch your precision and skill.
You are awesome, my young friend! You have changed so much since the first episode; I caught you in the middle of your videos and had to search for the first! It's been rewarding for me to watch you grow into the person you are now. Really love the cabin, the wilderness and the feeling of accomplishment you have shown in every video. Can hardly wait to see more! GREAT JOB!!!
I would move to rural Sweden in a heartbeat. I've always loved it. Just beautiful, serene, peaceful, and nobody talking! Nice and quiet.
What a talented young man. Every mother out there is hoping their daughter meets someone like you Erik.
Why not hope their daughters turn out as independent and crafty as Erik? Don't tell a girl to look for a hero to protect her. Make her her own hero and protector.

at 8:40 you helped your dog in to hang out with you, and I knew right there you were a really good person, you even give him blocks of wood to chew. Love from Wisconsin.
The skills used to do what you have done are sadly lost to most of us. Woodlore is something I think all of us should know and learn and pass on like your forefathers before you. This planet is such a precious gift and if more of us took a minute, took a breath and saw what we have right in front of us, the world would be a better place for it. What a crying shame we continue to ignore this and lose so many beautiful things in the process. Bless you for showing us what we should value and appreciate because you definitely are living your best life. 👏
Three things:
1. That scenery is breathtaking
2. That dog is awesome
3. You are AMAZING!
Thank you Eric for the latest update. Your resourcefulness when using a limited amount of modern tools is astounding. What I noticed most about the floor was how straight it was from front-to-back. This is a challenge with 21st century tools and properly poured foundation. Congratulations on your hard work. Always good to see your dog (as he looks a bit like my chocolate labrador retriever) and give Alice a hug for all of us who miss her.
Watching this video and then being interrupted by ads depicting our ever increasing disconnected and artifical modern life truly makes what he is accomplishing all the more impressive. I long to escape the matrix. It's so entrenched it seems inescapable to so many. I wish I had a piece of land to bugger off to and develop my human strength and skills. I hope you reap the rewards of this endeavor for many years to come.
You are an inspiration to all that watch your video's . People who will never get to do what you've done live it through you and your camera lens . I wish that more young people in this world had your work related skills . You my young friend can do anything . Keep up the awesome content !!! All the way from Iowa USA .
Forgive me for I have sinned. I haven't watched the entire video, but listened to it all. This is because the sounds from the nature and craftmanship is soothing and perfect to have in the background.
Enthralling as ever 🙂I also love the fact you don't cover the whole video in annoying music. The pictures and natural sounds speak for themselves. Thank you.

The sounds of this video really so relaxing 😔
When I watch your videos, I relax. These videos are so cinematic and atmospheric. A unique gift for a resident of the metropolis.
Ah yes, only two kind of people would do that barefoot-edge-shaping, complete beginner fools or seasoned knowledgable craftsmen. Seeing what you've accomplished (and lucky for your toes) you obviously fall into the latter group. Great video AGAIN!
Took the words right out of my mouth (or my keyboard)!
I think when he started building the cabin he was doing all this for the first time. He definitely seemed less confident back then as well.
But his carpentry skill seems to reflect years of experience. I've been doing it for a few years and I'm envious of his capabilities. He's either a virtuoso learner or must have trained under a skilled craftsman.
I can't believe I watched everything just today, from the very beginning of building this incredible house 🏘️.. a master piece content 👌🏻 love from Iraq ❤️🇮🇶
Your dog is so adorable, just picked up the piece of wood like she wanted to help 10:16. Love your videos!
Well, its a retriever. He want to play.
Thank you for showing all of these parts of the process that people usually skip over in log cabin building videos.
Been watching since you first started....the quality of your workmanship is outstanding. If I were to show up in 300 years that cabin will still be standing. 👍
When cabin finally looks inhabitable he moves into a cave 😂 Living like our forefathers took it one step further and became a cave man.

Hey, better luck on the next hunt. But the mushrooms are a BONUS. Stay healthy. That dog has enough energy for the both of you.

you sir are a rare breed of man. My hats off to you sir. Well done!
I have watched you since you picked out the spot to build your home. I wished that I had the knowledge and skills to be able to build my own log home and live off of the land. Well, I can enjoy watching you do these things. Thanks for sharing. Ron from the United States of America.
Sweden has the freedom to roam enshrined in its constitution, meaning you can go anywhere, except for what's deemed the "personal zone" next to a house (the personal zone can be up to 70 m/230 ft around, so good for keeping your actual house and front yard private). You can go anywhere, forage respectfully (anywhere that's not obviously cultivated), have access to any body of water to fish or swim... and it means a lot of Swedish kids are given the opportunities to spend enough time in the wild to actually learn skills like these. Because when you can run free in the woods and build play huts with your friends, at some point, building your own cabin just becomes the next logical step.
I wish the US had more laws like it, rather than focusing on the one individual's right to tell everyone else to buzz off. It made me really sad when I moved here, that the access to nature is made into a privilege rather than a right. And it's not a diss on the US, btw, just an observation on how laws shape the world.
@@gayahithwen That's it, I'm moving to Sweden !

@@gayahithwen hmmm interesting perspective. Personally I own a large amount of land and have fenced it all off. I live off my land with animals, harvest, and used the trees to build and warm my home. I wouldn’t want people on my property at all. Guess it’s just different here.
I have enjoyed your journey from the beginning! I miss the family dog but love watching your new one grow! Your craftsmanship, love of nature and peacefulness is overwhelmingly brilliant! Thank you!

Awesome video. That forest is beautiful. Way back in 1987, I went to Sweden and picked up a brand new SAAB 900 Turbo. Best car I ever owned. I drove the countryside for 2 days. Every person I met was kind, and to my surprise, spoke English. Absolutely a beautiful country and people.
Amazing attention to detail added to a desire for perfection make this very soothing to watch! A skilled craftsman indeed. I especially enjoy that he doesn’t waste viewers time with a bunch of unnecessary chatting. Love it! Keep up the good work. Very smart building his fire where it will heat up the rocks around him in the cave. Very smart young man.
Is there nothing that this young man can't do? He laid a perfect floor in his beautiful hand built cabin, then goes for a casual walk in the forest picking up his dinner as he goes. Then cooks dried frog and squirrel (sic) after first throwing the odd twig away. You are a very impressive person Erik.

Honestly your videos are so therapeutic and relaxing! I'm always so impressed by the way you film everything from so many angles, it looks like it could be a bigger professional production. Really loving this series and hope to see more from you in the future!
How satisfying it must be to see those beautiful knotty pine floorboards fitting together so snugly.
hello Erik I'm looking forward to your next movie. You made the floor very professionally, as if you had already done a lot of them. I admire you that at such a young age you have done so much without experience. I am waiting for the next movie because I think you made the last one in autumn. Best regards
Watching those floorboards join perfectly is SOOOOO satisfying.
Congrats for your floor ! Big step done !
Your control with an axe, following your scribed line is so precise. Which is a very good considering your doing it all in stocking feet.
It was really nice seeing you lay that wooden floor. It makes the cabin kind of inhabitable from now on. It really hit the spot. (my best translation of "pricken över i" so far ;)). I usually also pick the berries and mushrooms the forest offers; that's a favour of the nature. Unfortunately I live in Älvkarleby, northern Uppland where the downfall of cesium from the Tjernobyl "accident" was among the worst in Sweden. Considering the first half life of cesium is well passed due I eat small portions two or three times a year. I also boil them throwing away that first water before frying them. Calculating the risks compared to e.g. air plane crews, x-ray personell and others, eating it two or three times a year should make no difference at all. The lingon-berries and blueberries are fine though. They don't mistake the cesium for being one of the elements they need as much as the mushrooms seem to do.
Otro video con el que deleitarse y relajarse un rato. Eso es calidad de vida y paz. Gracias por compartirlo con el mundo.
It's nice to see it coming together. I've watched the entire build and are amazed over what you've managed to do.
